Recommend a first CC handgun. I will be turning 21 in a few months and plan on getting my CC when I do. After I recover from my all liquid diet Ill go out and buy a CC handgun.
I have shot a family members S&W 642 and LCP and I like them both. I shoot the 642 really well and don't mind the recoil I understand the limitations of a snub nose, but i'm comfortable with it. I also liked the LCP. I've been looking at the Sig P290rs, Walther PK380 and other single stack 9mm's and 380's. Any recommendations you would make to a first time CCW buyer?

In no particular order: Ruger LC9s, Walther PPS, Glock 43
Pay no attention to the Shield. Keyboard kommandos love to meme. The Shield is garbage.

Coming from someone who bought a subcompact as their first gun for the same reason; don't do it. Buy a compact (Glock 19, Sig P320 compact, M&P compact). You can carry it and it won't hurt your shooting development the way a subcompact can. Smaller guns have more recoil, so you tend to flinch more. Although it is avoidable, it's more likely to occur with a subcompact.

Alcohol. It's past your bedtime.
If you liked the 642 that much try out a LCR, it has hogue grips and a really good trigger. Pass on the ppk, the newer clones actually are better to shoot. You might also really like a P938 or a Colt Mustang. Those two have a single action trigger and you've been shooting DAO.

I wouldn't recommend a subcompact as a first gun
Although I do EDC a Keltec p3at
recoil is snappy, accuracy is poor at any range, but it is easy to conceal and unobtrusive to carry
However, if it is cold enough to wear a jacket, or I am going someplace that may not be "safe", I carry my beretta 84. If I am camping, hiking, or if the SHTF, I carry my beretta 92

These
I flinch like a motherfucker and still do just from moving up to 9mm and .45 full size. I can't imagine how bad I'd be with a sub compact
Also I would advise personally a revolver, DAO or DA/SA for first carry. Striker isn't bad but if you carry a striker as your first gun you have far less room for error in the ways of AD/ND.

Glock 17, get a man-size gun.
>>32755127
Single stack for sure in 9mm.
You better pratice with it a lot.
9mm is cheaper.
If you want a all around gun. Get the glock 26. In two seconds flat, you can put in a 33rd mag.
33rds of 9mm is going to give anyone group of people a bad day.

>tfw bought a P320 compact, I have small hands so it fits me well anyways
>tfw swapping out the frame with a subcompact frame for CC
>tfw the Sig marketing meme was real
>>32755127
CZ 2075 RAMI 9mm, the only patrician choice.

Ignore what everyone else has said.
Go to a range and rent a bunch of handguns. No one can tell you what handgun will be right for you except you.
All modern well-made handguns will function properly with the ammo they were designed to use.

Not OP, but I am also looking for my first handgun. I have never fired a handgun ever, am I looking for a CC gun as well. Most likely looking at the springfield xd subcompact. You guys don't recommend a subcompact for a first timer? My older brother also said that a smaller handgun would have more recoil. and recommends the bigger model of the xd

I don't know what kind of guy you are or how you handle recoil but I'm glad I didn't get a sub compact as a first gun.
I was too young to carry concealed anyway though

IMO the s&w 640 pro looks better than the 642.

I carry an LC9s, love it. Even fun just to shoot at the range/innadesert
Are
>muh pockets
sufficient enough for CC?

Yeah but its 2x as much as the 642
