Had a good range day today. There was a sheriff's deputy there at the same time as me, and he brought out his SBR Sig 556 and a MPX with the collapsible brace. He let me shoot them while I was there.

I think I want an MPX now.

Also put a couple hundred rounds through my AR. After it got zero'd, it ran like a champ.

Unfortunately I can't say. Waiting on some stuff to get here so I can install it properly. I've only ever done red dots before. The optic itself is good though. I have experience with Vortex and SWFA from my brothers rifles. Nice glass, true 1x, dot is good in the bright sun if needed for whatever reason. You can do both eyes open for sure at 1x

I feel comfortable in saying that at it's price point it might be the best optic around however I've never messed with a leupold patrol but I have messed with the mm ARs. Granted the Steiner is a little more but it smokes the mk AR, SWFA, and Vortex PST imo

Yeah I fought myself over the idea of a 9mm carbine forever, just decided that I had wanted one for long enough now I may as well do it while I have the fun-money for it.

I just placed my order for those last two parts.

The MPX is, surprisingly, something I considered despite it's ridiculous price range. Ultimately after playing with one with my own two hands I decided against it... In fact I put it in last place behind AR-9, Scorpion, and the CX4. My top complaints:

- Tolerances were too tight, I found it hard to actuate the safety and use the charging handle. It's possible that it was just the one I was holding but Sig tends to be fairly consistent.
- I didn't like the balance of weight when shouldering
- Magazines are $60+ a pop and hard as crap to find, whereas the other options had cheaper and easily found magazines

I didn't realize the scorpion was about half the price of a Sig MPX. I need to see if I can find one to play with and feel it out. Mags are also a lot cheaper, and it has some pretty nice looking brace options.

When I was messing with that one, it was before the newer brace style. I think it was using the original sigbrace. I'm not sure how much of a difference it would have made... but the concept of balance is more or less subjective and dependent on your body size and type as well as your grip.

Even if the ergonomics wasn't a problem, the magazine issue really bugs me. I can go to academy or cabela's and buy glock mags for less than $15 (17 rd) or as high as $40 for the 33rd factory mag... or I could scour the internet trying to find $60-$70 mpx mags + shipping.

Given, you can't really find scorpion mags in brick and mortar stores often, but at least they are available readily online and have been found as low as $8 shipped for the 20 rounders. I think the CX4 takes the same mags as one of the popular beretta pistols.

I will say, though... aesthetically that collapsing brace does take the cake. But it's just not enough to make me want an MPX more than the other 3 options.

With an AR-9 i'm getting an MPX/AR interface but for half the price and I can buy 3-5 glock mags for the price of one MPX mag down the street.

That's reasonable. The collapsing brace did make a huge difference in the gun's balance, but it's hard to justify a $1500+ pistol caliber carbine.

For around $800, the scorpion seems like a good deal. One of the local stores here has one, so I may try it out and decide if I want to start putting back for one.

I'd probably get rid of my AR pistol if I get one. I don't shoot it as much as I used to.

I really considered the scorpion hard, it was a very closed second. Ultimately it lost to the AR-9 because I like to change my mind a lot and the AR is more customizable. Plus I just like building ARs. It's very satisfying.

If you get a scorpion, you should check the SB-Tactical EVO brace... it's expensive though. I don't think I'd get one if I already owned a shockwave blade and would instead spend the money on a stamp.

I watched a video on the SI +5 pmag extension. Why are all SI products executed like shit. They have some really innovative product ideas, but their build quality and final design form is shit.
Like is it really so fucking hard to take a PMAG and design your product mold to mimic the PMAG finish?

They are absolute garbage. They refuse to reveal where they are getting their barrels (most have assumed they are buying 'unacceptable' quality barrels from a big OEM and selling them as 'quality'). I bought a radical upper that came with a handguard which was worth most of the cost of the entire upper so it was a low risk trial for me... I had heard about the QC issues but I thought I'd find out for myself because that's what I do... I try cheap stuff and see what works.

What I received had the appearance of a good upper, but when I decided to buy a suppressor I didn't want to risk it on a garbage barrel with potentially non-concentric threads, so I decided to take it off.

When I did, I discovered the barrel nut for the BAR type handguard had somewhere over 120 ft/lb of torque on it. I weighed about 160 at the time and I had to put nearly all of my body weight on a breaker bar to get it loose. The BAR handguard in question LITERALLY COMES WITH SHIMS and instructions that say "one gas hole past finger tight" but they used zero shims and instead just torqued the crap out of it until it timed. I have no idea how the upper survived both having it installed and me removing it.

On top of my experience, they have been using barrels that were improperly melonited (the extension was in before the meloniting process) and this has caused the barrel extensions to break free... something that should never happen without expensive machinery to help you. They proceeded to pull an Apple-esque "you're holding it wrong" type customer-blaming scheme, wherein they posted on facebook and other media that the "barrel extensions were breaking loose because people were changing muzzle devices without v-blocks".

They are absolute garbage with customer service, to top it off.
