/SGG/ Shotgun General

Why don't we start a shotgun general thread.
Post you guns and talk about it.

I'll start

Love my Mossberg 930 SPX

Will add velcro sidesaddle + maybe a bayonett shell tube + a standard stock (don't lole the tactical that much)

The lgs by me has an older model Wingmaster 870 20" 12ga. Looks in good shape, no cracks in the furniture. I think they're asking 375 or 350.

Worth picking up to give it a good home? I'm gonna stop by again today to see if I can get more information on it. Any known issues on the older ones?
>>
>>32713402
the old one are good to go IMO.

For 350? Go for it!

Really want to get a topper. What are disadvantages to hunting hogs with a single barell? Any chance of getting charged? Is this a good gun to leave on my hot car for days at a time? Are they good for the money?
>>
I've whored my gun on the board before, so you've probably heard of it already.

I keep a Remington 870 Express, 18.5" Imp Cyl barrel, an extended mag tube that brings it up to 6+1 2.75" shells or 5+1 3" shells, in a Bullpup Unlimited body kit; if I buy a better tube extension than the carlson/choate POS I have installed now, I can probably get an extra shell into the tube for the same length, even just replacing the long-tail follower should ease up the space if the spring will take the compression that far.
>>
>>32714975
dammit, I've been posting half of what I wanted to say all day now, I should get some sleep.

regardless, I keep it for home defense and the odd range trip and have a set of diamond-box flip-sights attached along the top rail and zeroed to 50 yards- though after the disassembly and cleaning I just gave it, I'll need to fish out the laser boresighting slug and zero it again just in case the reassembly shifted everything around, but hey, it's a shotty in a body kit, it'll probably slip the zero with every shot.

WHAT?
>>
>>32713778

My family used to live off the land in the distant parts of the southland, deer, hogs, turkey and small game being huge dietary staples.

Most of them only owned a single shot shotgun and a .22lr rifle.

If you feel like you're gonna need to reload fast, keep a shell caddy on the gun or stick some in between your fingers or in your mouth. I've killed a world of shit with a single gun.

My Great Uncle killed 11 deer in 30 minutes with one on a dog drive.

And I'm pretty sure it's still retaining plenty enough energy to penetrate well-beyond vitals.

Why are you so autistic? Of course that's not a distance I would normally shoot a deer with a slug, but if I had to and knew my dope, I'd damn sure try it. If you're telling me that a .70 caliber one ounce chunk of lead at even 700-800 fps (the velocity of a lot of older projectiles or cartridges) is not gonna get into a man or deer's heart and lungs, you're a fucking idiot.

I keep an AR for HD, used to use a shotgun. I use a Weatherby Vanguard and an SKS for hunting large game. I haven't hunted deer with a shotty in 5 years, just birds and small game.

But the reason I'm arguing with you is because you faggots always come into these threads and derail the shit because you're a pack of shitting autists.

Mass means more than velocity when it comes to penetrating.

thats why a crossbow bolt or arrow will lance your ass even though its only going ~200-400 fps.

I would love having a 400 grain 458 socom that only went 500fps, you would hear the twack of it hitting and it would probably blow right out the other side.

I'll be picking up a Winchester SXP Pump Defender tomorrow. Was on sale. I liked the feel of it over the other shotguns of the same price range. Anyone else had one before? I've read nothing but good reviews for it.

are there any youtube videos on how to git gud with shotguns?
like combat shotgun videos and how to use it?

I've seen some, just type it into YouTube and see what you find. There's several on drill, speed loading, tactical reloading and training instructors trying to sell their courses. But no channels or anything devoted to them that I know of.

Got myself the Maverick 88 security model
Been thinking of replacing the brass bead with a tritium/fiber optic or putting one of those railed saddles and a vortex strikefire on.

Also painting the stock and forend dark olive or slavshit plum.

My ex wife bought one and I used it a few times. It's not a great shotgun. That being said it's hard to fuck up a sxs. The thing shoots when you pull the trigger, and it's safe.

Anything worth shooting someone with will cruise through cheap American housing architecture.

Overpenetration is a fuddmeme.

12ga slug is just fine for a boar, and yes if you are on the ground there is a chance of it charging you if your shot is not true. The disadvantage is obvious in that you only have one shot, but as a hunting gun that is fine.

The advantages/disadvantages of that compared to an un/single is a different story, though.

Firing at indoor ranges without ear protection is a lot different than firing on an open field without it. Plus that is supposed to be one of those things that catches up to you when youre old after a life time of not protecting your ears.

Maybe y'all can tell me why this is. Whenever I shoot clays I almost never use ear pro, and I haven't noticed any reduction in hearing or signs of tinnitus.

But if I shoot one round out of my AR or a handgun my ears ring like a morherfucker.

Which is why I think stuff like >>32716189 isn't true.

Note: I am not saying you should wear earpro when shooting your shotgat, just that it hasn't bothered me in the ~25,000 shells I've shot since I was 10.

I have one in .410 that my grandpa gave me. Its seems to me a pretty good shotgun

Benelli nova is an excellent pump for 400. I would recommend it over any other intro shotgun.
>>

Sonic boom has alot to do with it.
>>
>>32726300

I always wear my Beretta ear defenders when shooting and everyone else at the clay ground has hearing protection too. Even family's/ friends watching someone shoot get given a pair of ear plugs.

Benelli Nova, bought it for a slug gun for Bambi but I keep it loaded with 00 in the house. I live alone so scattergat is fine for HD.

so youd rather be shot with a slug close range than a rifle close range?
>>
>>32726792
I've always theorized it's because shotguns are a lot lower pressure, so it more of a boom compared to a crack like a rifle.

>>32728421
Probably a good practice. I've been wearing them more when I shoot clays because I'd like to hear when I'm older. Usually just a pair of plugs though.
>>
>>32731000
Shotgun pellets don't cause the sonic crack by breaking the sound barrier like rifle shots generally do.
