Something that has been bugging me the past few elections. How exactly do you secure an open urban setting against assassins when the target is as important as the next President?

Don't long rifle snipers have the ability to reach the President-elect from outside the perimeter by setting up in a nearby building? How do you stop a gun man from doing what we have our military doing every day?

And no FBI I am not fucking planning shit. I'm just dumbfounded that no one has tried considering how powerful the President is and how often these elections end with a very bitter losing side.

It could be very easily done. The problem is that most people who have the will to do something like that and are willing to risk being caught are too stupid and inept to succeed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_threats_against_Barack_Obama
>>
Snipers for literally miles. My mother worked at a university, one day the VP shows up (it was Gore, I think). I'm sitting doing homework when I look out the window opened on to a roof and there is a dude with a sniper rifle standing out there. Anyway turns out the secret service are occasionally willing to talk to interested kids so we talked though the window. As he put it they had guys on every roof with sightlines on any part of the VP's route. Add to that guys flanking the VIP to prevent someone pulling a Hinkley and you have a pretty bulletproof cordon.

So they have guns facing outwards covering 360 degrees and every floor of every building?

Even when I went to the White House on the most random ass day, when Obama probably wasn't even there, they still had dudes on the roof across the street with rifles.

They got that shit on lock
>>
>>32711861
>>32711885
Counter-snipers can't bring a dead President back to life. If an assassin is willing to sacrifice his life, all it takes is one slip-up. Unfortunately, there aren't enough people with the brains and balls to assassinate a President. Otherwise, America would have gotten rid of Obama a long time ago.
>>
>>32711899
They're going to have over 7000 people constantly on the lookout, so.. yes.
>>
>>32711844
Son, at some point today a satellite in fucking outer goddamn space zoomed in on you and took a photo with such clarity that they could count the buttons on your shirt. There are drones and securiyy cameras outfitted with specialized cameras that can detect even the most minimal glare from what COULD be a scope from a rifle. There are snipers that have motherfucking computers plugged in to their guns that are capable of making a shot accurate enough to hit a chipmunk dead center in the asshole at damn near a mile away. Honestly, if somebody were really committed to an assassination attempt they'd have a better chance of stabbing him with a shiv they concealed up theur anus while he was out shaking hands than hitting him with sniper fire.
>>
The president has ballistic glass in front of him at pretty much any of these sorts of events
>>
>>32711922
There's a stupid amount of things that would have to go right just for you to get into position to take a shot without being seen or noticed, and on top of that you better be using a big fucking rifle because he probably has some goddamn super armor a dozen people in the world know exists that puts ceramic to shame, so you're probably going to have to make sure the concussion kills him instantly. If it doesn't he has the worlds best drs on call right fucking there
>>
Of course it can be done.

If it bleeds it can die.

You'd need to have a .50 cal or equivalent caliber, or better. .338 Lapua would be fine because its meant to compete against .50 BMG, so use your judgement. You'd need to be a damn good shot, the president will likely be in an area where enemy snipers won't be able to see directly so you'd have to calculate the trajectory and use the sniper rifle like an indirect mortar. You'd have to use probability mathematics if you can't find out exactly where he's gonna be standing.

You'd have to shield your FLIR signature also, and have a damn good exit strategy.

You could use an ACTUAL mortar, but it'd have to be homemade and somehow you'd have to calibrate and test it without being found out.

Modern artillery can easily reach out ten miles.

So, anything is possible and odds are there's tons of shit that they have that you won't know about.

The real question is how the fuck are you gonna escape the time travelling justice forces because there's weird shit out there.

For all you know, you'd kill the president, make a brilliant escape, and never get caught then on your death bed you wake up and your in custody inside a top secret prison and part of your punishment was living a lie as a cruel joke so they could analyze how to rehabilitate you.

There's a TON of shit that exists that sounds like science fiction, dude

I have a bunch of ideas:

- IRA Mortar Van: get a DHL/UPS/FedEx truck with a mortar team at the ready. Either with a deployable mortar that is already dialed in via a certain street, or one that is set up in the back with a hinged opening to fire while driving.

- Cessna attack: Not probable at all, but fly a couple of Cessnas at him. I wonder if they have AA that can deploy quick enough.

- Straight up go on a rampage: you don't need to kill the president, you just need people to have horrible memories and start his presidency by a horrible attack.

I'm sure they'll have fast movers patrolling, if not on standby and they'll scramble as soon as they see something like that deviate from their flight plan, which wouldn't be approved to go anywhere near the event anyway.

I think it was like 20~ minutes to get F-16s in the air after the first report of a hijacking on 9/11.

I'm just imaging Trump giving his speech while Cessnas are falling out of the sky, with mortars either falling short or getting shot by mini's and everyone is running around for cover or dying, his secret service are tackling him, and he just says "Trust me, its going to be great, you've never had a presidency like this before, promise"

Literally yes.

It can't remember what it's called, but it's the new system replacing buckeye mapping. It's a radar mounted on the bottom of an aircraft that flies over head. The radar bounces off of everything from multiple directions creating a 3d picture.
This gets loaded into a computer which can then run as a software that can place exact weapon systems, ranges, from any perspective, and it can be printed out as a 3d map.

Pretty cool shit. Allows you to see all dead space and stuff. It's pretty much a division level asset and up, but I imagine it's utilized for every presidential security detail because it's such a powerful tool.

Honestly it's just a lack of anyone actually trying since JFK. Despite all the security bullshit every government is pushing to try and make the public feel safe it really isn't that effective against any but the stupidest assassins / terrorists.

I have produced explosives without any all seeing eye catching on and while I was only making small amounts for fun I doubt the ability of the powers that be to catch me if I was serious about producing tons.
