guys i just had a great idea for a helmet
why not put mirrors where the eyes are, in a diagonal fashion so that if somebody shoots at your eyes it will only destroy the mirror in a location that isnt ur eyes?
pic describes what i mean

Because that is silly.

I mean its not the WORST idea, but I feel we've kinda moved beyonf that point in terms of tech. This feels like something tried in WWI

There are motorcycle helmets that have mirrors similar to this concept, they just face backwards instead.

well think about modern soldiers, they still dont have any protection for the face.
i think that's kinda bullshit. maybe this helmet idea will gain more traction when soldiers are fitted with exoskeletons and then people start thinking about armor again because at that point weight isnt such an issue anymore

This is some WWI trench warfare stuff
BTW OP the term for this is "periscope".
because encouraging somebody to shoot at your brain instead of your eyes is not an improvement.

Parascope helmet seems like a low tech solution to a high tech problem. I think with high tech stuff you'd just go to putting cameras on the helmet and a image display over the user's eyes.

>/k/ a magical place
>>32675980
You would lose all of your peripheral vision.
>>32675980
I have no words
Words have failed me

Not with curved mirrors.

Transparent armor reached perfection nowadays and has very little weight penalties over steel armor. You may just put "glass" on visor without negatives associated with periscopes.
>>32677992
just add more mirrors
As a side note, this would be good armor to use with the Compton Stance (weapon held sideways over the head with firing side hand, support side hand gripping the vagina)
because mirrors break, and then fall into your eyes and you can't get the glass out because you're wearing a steel helmet that you can't remove without cutting yourself. Your lunch break is over, go back to class.
