Czech M85 is pushing it with the fuzzy collars, and It seems depending in lighting it's more brownish than greenish. Though where I live, once it drops below freezing nobody gives anybody shit for how they're dressed, because warmth is all that matters, and this bastard is warm as fuck with the liner and collars. Thus I only wear it when it's brutally cold, and even then only to certain places, but nobody's ever given me shit for it.

I think M65s, as long as they're not in a camo pattern, wouldn't stand out too much. Matter of fact, being camouflage at all is what probably puts you at risk of looking autistic, depending on your definition of "public" and your geographical location

But that's the point of milsurp isn't it, cheap because it's overwhelmingly available, and it works for it's intended purpose. Wore a Tropentarn field shirt with olive Dickies to Sportsman's Warehouse the other day to pick up ammo before going shooting/larping in the desert. I got lots of stares, even from dudes decked out head to toe in fudd camo and a dude wearing UCP hat and shirt and woodland pants. But I'm also a long haired faggy looking skelly.

The only surp I regularly leave the house in is a flecktarn parka (worn with jeans and sneakers) which sticks out (in a positive way) in the sea of all-black wearing hipstery/punk folks I hang around. I also have a couple Alpenflage rucksacks I use to carry beer and stuff to places where I'd be afraid to leave a more expensive backpack laying around.

IMO surplus jackets and parkas will always be less autistic than field shirts, probably because so many normies wear military inspired jackets but only edgelords and tryhard douchebags wear "casual" shirts that have epaulets and shit.

Looking for another item to wear the same way I do my flecktarn parka. Fleck is quickly becoming the basic bitch pattern of this fashion trend, so I want to find a similarly effay item in a more obscure pattern. Bonus points if it's subtly racist.

Just keep in mind the real deal stuff is sorted into sizes, for instance my parka was a size 14 or 15, I forget. Many sites just sell them as "Small, Medium, Large" but there's a big variance there with length depending on your build. I am tall but thin, but with wide shoulders, so buying any surplus is a gamble for me.

Also be aware that the liner for the parka, though comfy as fuck, doesn't actually button in like a US m65 or Czech M85 liner. It is in no way attached, at least that's how mine is. A small bummer, but a bummer none the less, so you either have to take them both off and put them both on carefully to keep them together, or put on and take off one first, then the other, which I feel like sort of defeats the purporse. Again, a small complaint, just worth noting. I didn't know this when I ordered mine.

Tons of companies have remade/modified the M65. Brandit is a popular company (mostly in Europe, it seems) who takes milsurp designs and changes/improves them slightly. They have one jacket based off an M65 but I'll be damned if I'm gonna spend $150-200 USD for a modernized replica of a $30 milsurp jacket. If you take the time to figure out a Bundeswehr sizing system conversion chart, you will probably end up getting something that fits the first (and definitely the second) try. The system also incorporates graduated sizing depending on whether it's meant to be a mid layer or top layer, meaning whatever size field shirt fits you, the same size parka will fit you but with a little extra room intended for adding insulating layers underneath.

So far, I've ordered Bundeswehr items from Varusteleka and Nugget Enterprises, both of whom sort everything using the original sizing system. It's definitely worth any added cost to order from somewhere that does this.

If you're trying to decide between 2 or 3 sizes, and don't have a surplus store nearby to try things on, it's not a bad idea to try ordering a few flecktarn field shirts, considering they're only $6ish each.

I have one that I got about 10 years ago, it's hanging up in my garage because I haven't used it since I was a retarded school kid. Made in 1990, good quality.

To me it serves no purpose now, it's pure cotton so it's no good for /out/ if the temp is above freezing or it's damp out and I don't see the benefit in coats that long unless you're static a lot. I could wax it to make it water resistant but I'd rather just get a Scandi snow smock if I wanted to do that. I might search the liner out, if I still have it, and put it up on ebay.

I do love surplus wool jumpers though, I've got a US high neck, an British jersey heavy wool and an Austrian mountain troops Dachstein type which was made for gods.
