Any nugget experts know what this RZ means? I know AZF is a Austrian rework stamp.
>>
I think it's just the result of trying to use the flat "AZF" stamp on the round surface of the barrel. Look to the right and left of the "Z"; you can see the bottom of the "A" on one side and the top of the "F" on the other. I think the "R" is a separate stamp; I know it was used to mark Mosins inspected/refurbished at the Imperial arsenal in Budapest
>>
I've never see a nugget that old.

I think we have the two rarest Mosins on /k/

We should be range buddies.

I have an M28. I always thought I was special. Now my smile... gone.

M28s aren't exactly plentiful either. Keep your smile friend
>>
>>32676428
Is there anything special about this rifle? The pawnshop next to me has a crate of them with that date and letter arrangement
>>
>>32676732
>a crate of them
Doubtful. If true, the pawnshop probably has ex dragoons. Dragoons reworked to 91/30 specs. Special? Not really, they we're making mostly dragoons by 1925, so there's a good amount of them out there.
the rifle you are asking about specifically is an M91, not a Dragoon. They didn't make nearly as many of them. Most of them with that rollmark are ex dragoons, you don't see many M91s from this time period or that roll mark, the PCFCP(1921-1923) M91 rifles are even less common. neither are on the Chatellerault or Sestroryetsk level of rare but, 1920s M91 rifles aren't exactly common
>>
>>32677300
Yeah they are refurbs definitely but with the same roll mark. I didn't realize yours was an M91
>>
>>32677300
Also, just as a point of note, if we are talking rare Mosins.
>1918 Sestroryetsk
One of the rarest Mosins, period
>1919 & 1920 Tula
Extremely rare. Top 3 rarest in my opinion.
>1891 Tula
If you see one in person, buy it. Rare as fuck
>1893-1912 Izhevsk Ka3 Cossack
Insanely rare
>1892 Chatellerault
Extremely rare
>1920-1930 Tula M91
not rare, but not common
>1941 Tula 91/30
Rare, as fuck.
>1945 Izhevsk 91/30
Quite rare.

There's a handful others when you get into M38s and M44s. I think 1943 Tula M44s and 1940 Izhevsk M38s off the top of my head.

This isn't including Finn Mosins, some of which are up there with 1918 Sestroryetsk, 1891 Tula, 1919 Tula and 1892 Chatellerault in terms of rarity.

>>32677331
Mine is Finn refurb for sure. The bluing is too nice considering the shortage of rifles in the winter/continuation war and that the M91 was the most common rifle in the front, Finn and Russian M91s. I mean they are likely ex dragoons, basically they updated the sights to 91/30 sights and some other changes.
>>
>>32677413
IIRC 1941 "Tulas" where just Tula barrels sent to Izhevsk.
>>
>>32677331
I mean, even though they are ex dragoons and not M91s, Tula only used that rollmark 1924-1926(I believe). So there's that, if you don't have a nugget and want one, I would get one of those you saw
>>
>>32677428
That is the first I've heard of that, I'm not inclined to believe that. I do know, however the reason Tula didn't make many 91/30s in 1941 though is that they were making SVT 40s and shifted almost all production to that. Plus being surrounded and all that
>>
>>32672626
My Sestroyetsk is dated 1894. Sadly no picture tho
>>
>>32677440
Do you know the date range on Sestroryetsk nuggets with the pretty rollmark?
>>
>>32677413
>1919 & 1920 Tula
>Extremely rare.
1919 is rare, but 1920-dated are merely uncommon. 1918 is rarer than either.

>>32679127
All of them; they only made M91 infantry rifles, and only until 1918.
>>
>>32679467
The one with the hammer rollmark is the one I'm thinking. Is it 1918 and 1919 then?
>>
>>32669204
So, If i was trying to buy the rarest mosin out there
what would I be looking for?
>>
>>32680353
>1918 Sestroryetsk
>1918-1919 Tula
>1892 Chatellerault
>1893-1912 Ka3 Cossack Izhevsk
>1941 Tula 91/30
>1945 Izhevsk 91/30

Any of those, unless you want to include Finn nuggets. Which would be the M24s, P stamped barrel M91s and uhm, VKT M27-M28s I believe
>>
>>32680398
>1892 Chatellerault
Are those french mosins?
Are they compatible with spitzer ammo?
>>
>>32680409
Yes and yes. They just didn't make a ton the first year they made them and very few still exist. 1891 Tula is probably the rarest Mosin, I just didn't include it as your chances of finding one are extremely low
>>
>>32680428
Cool, I'm not a big mosin fan but I'm going through a "buy a rifle as old as possible"
I'm currently working on getting a charger loading lee enfield, so getting those old mosins won't be a problem
>>
>>32680448
There's actually an 1892 Chatellerault 91/38 on GunBroker right now. $855

91/38s are M91s cut down to carbine length with M38/M44 sights added by the Czechs. This would probably fit the bill of old and rare Mosin for you.
>>
>>32680474
Looks nice, missing it's cleaning rod. I'd rather have an original M91 Chatellerault, but this 91/38 would definitely fit your bill. 5d left, I'll bet it hits at least $1600
>>
Since this is now a Mosin thread, is there a good website or book that I could reference for Mosin's. I have very little knowledge about them.

I currently have the opportunity to buy a tula or izhevsk berdan II, but it's for around 1000 shipped and taxed, and I just dropped 700 on a sniper nugget

should I have gotten a berdanka instead? (bolt numbers don't match to receiver)
>>
>>32680648
I don't know much about these. Weren't they single shot BP? And like 1870s up until the M91? If I recall correctly this was still one of the main rifles in use during the 1904 Russo-Jap wars right?

That bidder has a maximum of $1500 on it.
>>
>>32681108
So to outbid him you have to go over 1500? How can you see that?
>>
>>32681207
There's also a 1901 Sestroryetsk up, starting $500 with 0 bids
