British nukes are used as a second strike deterrent to prevent the UK being nuked, the USA does not decide when and where they are used. This is useful for the USA in that the UK is a staging point for the USAF moving from the CONUS to Europe. Russia threatens the first use of tactical nuclear weapons if it feels threatened, so air bases that are unlikely to be nuked and hard to attack conventionally is useful.

In event of a war with Russia the UK's primary task would be to harass Russian subs in the GIUK gap, harass surface sorties by the Northern fleet and possibly even launch cruise missile strikes against bases in Murmansk. They'd also have a pretty large role in preventing aerial sorties, shoring up Eastern Europe and stonewalling Russian assets at Tartarus from their Cyprus base and hold on Gibraltar, essentially blocking Black Sea fleet access to the Atlantic, at least until their subs are expended.

In a war with China they'd operate from ports and airstrips in Singapore they have on long term lease, but with a much reduced role. Most likely they'd provide operational support to allied forces in the region, particuarly Austrailians similar to what they did in Afghan. You're not likely to see a large ground deployment east of Suez, but you would probably see their subs, escorts, C+C and logistics intermixed as part of a taskforce.
