Having a decaying kleptocracy trying to grab as much territory and spread influence is dangerous as Russia is in a terrible place in terms of its economy and demographics. The more influential a nation is the more people get hurt when it goes under, which Russia inevitably will. Also due to the simple fact that the likelihood that anyone near as good or popular as Putin will replace him when he goes is very, very low.
