What is the ideal calibre to go with for a target/hunting setup?
>260 Rem
>6.5 Creedmoor (is this a meme round?)
>7mm-08
>308

Above is what I'm considering so far.. ideally want something with a good BC. For my purposes, I'll probably be using the rifle for 60% target shooting (some long range) and 40% hunting. I don't see myself hunting anything bigger than deer. Not including .243 because it's too much of a barrel burner. Also if it matters, I'm in Canada

.308 VEPR with a holo sight
>>
>>32656661
Would you consider .300 Win Mag as overkill? I really like that round.
Also maybe .270 would be nice.
>>

>VEPR

>>32656724
300 Win Mag is probably overkill. I'd prefer less recoil rather than more.

Also why would I ever go with 270 when there's 308?
>>
Never had issues with 7-08. Great round if you eeload.
308 might be a better one if your rifle food bidget is tight

Oh shit my bad didn't see you were in Canada. Then I suggest a VZ58 chambered in 260 rem.

I hope this is a troll post

6.5 creedmoor is a better version of the .260 remington if your dealing with magazine length cartidges and want to do long range.
The shape of high BC bullets dont agree with the ,260 unless they are seated long.
>>
>>32656661
Good luck finding any of those meme rounds at your local gunshop. You're better off going with tried and true 308
>>
>>32656694
who is the hottie in your image post? google search didn't find her.
>>
>>32656741

>.308, the slayer of the .270
>but what about .260 & 7mm-08

Dude, bro. Apply yourself
>>
Tikka t3 in .308. If you shoot out that barrel, re-barrel it in 6.5 Creedmore.
>>
>>32656756
More?
>>
>>32656908
260 and 7mm-08 are significantly different than 308. They are smaller caliber bullets and, though 308 leaves with more energy at the muzzle, the other two have better BCs and are more stable at longer distances. I don't think 270 has these same advantages so you might as well go with the more popular 308 in that case
>>
>>32656661
300 win mag or 7mm, 6.5 is a barrel burner also, 308 if you are stuck on your list
>>
>>32656756
let me tell you that Detroit girls look nothing like this. But I have noticed it's way easier as a white guy to get with hot black chicks than hot white chicks.

>>
>>32656661
Are you planning on reloading your own rounds?
>>
>>32656979
ok, soon. But what I said is completely true Tyrone.
>>
>muh 6.meme grendel
>>
.30-06 would be my choice.
>>
>>32656661
Hunting and target shooting often work against each other. You may want to pick a cheap hunting rifle in .308 so youre not taking a heavy expensive rifle with an equally expensive scope through the woods.
>>
>>32656984
Probably not anytime soon, but eventually I'd definitely like to yea
>>
>>32656971

A .270 develops as much energy at the muzzle as a .308, more with some loads. Diameters are:

.260 = .264
.270 = .277
7mm = .284

It's a .30-03 (basically .30-06) case necked down to .277 - I'm not sure where you got the idea it was some sort of anemic peashooter.

That said, you should get a .308 due to ammunition costs if that is a concern. You've simply triggered my autism

>>32657078
surely the two activities aren't disparate to the point where you NEED a different gun. It's not like I plan on doing any comp shooting, and I'm not some old boy hunter who refuses to hunt without a wood stock and muh fuddy aught six
>>
>>32657099
How can you be serious about target shooting if you are using factory loads senpai. Invest is a Lee single stage press, you would be into reloading about $300 and have match grade ammo
>>
>>32657111
I never implied a .270 was an anemic peashooter. My point was that it's not sufficiently different or better than 308 to warrant getting it, since 308 is more ubiquitous and cheaper like you said
>>
>>32657127
Like I said, I would love to get into reloading eventually, but sadly I just don't have the cash or space to do it right now.
>>
>>32657126
If youre not a comp shooter and youre not going to put an expensive scope on it, you can do both with the same gun. It just wont be optimized for either in particular. If youre not reloading and dont plan to in the near future, i would go with .308 based on ammo cost but ammo prices could be different in canada so maybe ask the canada general
>>
>>32656661
.308 will be the most economical
7mm-08 will be the best below 800 yards, but a little spendier and a little harder on the barrel.
6.5 Creedmoor does everything .260 does, except it works a lot better with the high BC bullets and magazines, and will be the best from 800-1200 yards, and use up a barrel slightly faster.

Really though, for ranges that constitute ethical hunting distances for 99.99% of shooters, it's all the same shit, buy the one you like.
>>
>>32656947

.270 is 6.8mm (from an enlarged .30-06 case).

Anyway, there's not much difference between them all for all intents. Recoil is the biggest factor.
>>
>>32657202
>Anyway, there's not much difference between them all for all intents.
Yea, this was my point.

I wonder how the recoils would compare though. I'm guessing pretty similar between 308 and 270?

Go with a custom barrel. Either a fast twist 243, or 6.5x47 lapua. If for some reason you dont reload go with 308.
>>
>>32656661
260 is a very underrated round, you should consider that one. Wait a few more years to see if 6.5 creedmeme sticks around
>>
>>32656724
Overkill for anything smaller than a moose.
>>
I just bought a rem 783 in 308 a few days ago.
For both target and hunting
>>
6.5 creedmoar is the superior round in almost any application, unless you need more power.
>>
>>32662159
Here comes the meme caliber cult

The differences between 7mm-08 and 6.5 Creedmoor are negligible, other than 6.5 burning out barrels a but faster. It's just the hip cartridge right now but it will fade into obscurity in due time
>>
>>32662313
not with there being cheap match ammo and lapua making brass for the 6.5cm

its why the 6mm cm will start doing well since hornady will be mass producing match ammo that cartridge too
>>
>>32656915
I'm thinking about getting one of those and putting a redfield scope on it.
>>
Get what is comfy, I'll vote for .308 just because it's what I normally shot, but don't knock the 6.5's because of "memes" Do your own study of them.
