i love the warfare these hill tribes have.
before they got civilised, they used to do ritualistic warfare with bows and spears. this was more about honour and intimidation than killing, so you would only fight on a specific day when it's sunny, if it started raining you'd make peace and go home. tribes were friendly, but when time for war came they'd start fighting, and when it ended they were friends again.

now that guns have been introduced it's changed. back in the day a spear or arrow that hit you would hurt you but you probably wouldn't die, but now guns are there there's a 99% chance you will die if you get shot in the chest. some people still choose to use bows and machetes when fighting for more honour.
in your OP post the people are brave. they are fighting traditionally as they used to against new, modern military forces, it requires balls to fight like that.

The Indons pretty much left the abos alone. The jungle hell was too much, and Indons have enough jungles elsewhere. They invaded because CIA told them Papuans were turning Commie if they get independence from Portugal. Australia is meddling there because it feels it needs a buffer zone and abos for cannon fodder should Indons will invade Australua in the next million years or so (never).
