Do you guys have an opinion about what the best all around caliber for a lever action rifle?
How about 45-70?
30-30 seems to be most common but I don't like the fact that it doesn't perform very well outside of 100 yds.
45-70 preforms better at range but is almost twice as expensive as 30-30

.357 is a good versatile caliber, and it performs much better out of a carbine than a pistol.

Who the hell is telling you that .45-70 is better at range? .45-70 in 460 grains at 120 yards drops roughly the same as .30-30 in 150 grains at 140 yards, and beyond there .45-70 completely rainbows. They are both rounded or flat end bullets that are rather outdated in terms of ballistics.

Ok. So I'm new to all this. Are there lever action rifles that are chambered in a better performing caliber?
Or are all lever action rifles outdated and fudd tier?
.45-70 and buy a Lee Classic Loader.
Choose from loads created over nearly two centuries for taking anything from squirrels to elephants.
30-30 with leverevolution imo

The BLR uses a box mag, so it comes in .223 , .308 etc
Honestly I'd get something cheap and fun like .357 unless you reload. It's more a fun / close hunting rifle than a srs long range option.
30-30 for rifle cartridge
.44-40 for gentleman's cartridge
.357 pretty darn nice overall it seems

There are lever action that take box magazines. You can get one in any caliber you like. I have on in .308. They even make a goofy version of 308 for tube magazines.
If you're dead set on keeping it classic, go with 30-30. It's cheap, plentiful, and fun to shoot. You can also get one in 44/40.
Point is, lever gas aren't really designed to be long range shooters.

I do like the idea pf going cowboy with matching caliber handgun and longgun

>Point is, lever gas aren't really designed to be long range shooters.
Isnt that mostly because fudds refuse to buy modernized lever actions?

I thought it was because the rounded calibers work better with the design of tube guns....

Yessir, this is my early season hunting combo. With 180 grain .357 you're going to be hitting hard like 30-30. Makes nice hole in whitetail deer.

Pointy tip poking butthole of next round up go boom. Leverlution seems to solve this with squishy-poker.

Brah, reloading .357 is AMAZING fun. You can make that shit do anything you want it to!

>30-30 doesn't do well past 100yrds
>Suggests 45-70
