Either way. To answer OP I would not try to disarm him, even as an MMA fighter with a Judo background. Can I? Yes. But there's a very good chance he also creates the necessary distance to draw on me.

He most likely has a hidden quick deployable knife somewhere and for sure pepper spray and God knows what else up his sleeve to get me off him just in time to draw.

But if it was a female police officer or a very small or out of shape one. I'd be more inclined to try if I had to.
