You underestimate my love for the dankest memes of /akg/

$700 isn't a bad price for it tho, they've been getting harder to come by. They used to be fairly available for around $600, now I don't see them nearly as often for sale and this guy has been trying to sell his for a while now. If I really wanted one (which I do someday, but no hurry honestly) I wouldn't feel bad spending $700 on this one assuming I had $700 to blow and was willing to blow it on ugly slavshit

/k/ is really different but it's also 4chan in general. In one hand I feel generals in their right context are for the best, but on the other hand they've changed this site entirely

I remember when I was one of only like a handful of people here who had a vz.58, years before the cheap Century deal and back when your options were CSA and the new Czechpoint/D Technik. SCARs were unheard of outside of Squid like you said. It's just weird. I've wasted nearly a decade on this stupid Germanic tapestry weaving forum (not all of it on /k/ tho) and that's just weird

I just spent a good 10 minutes looking for more of these pics >>32605848 but I can't find them. I know I had them because I had them all on my phone at one point. Whenever I see these pics it makes me want to buy a ton of flecktarn

...so, has anyone else tried any of the new "8M3" Tulaammo is selling through SGammo?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ENhmMKuaVU

Looks pretty legit, though I wish they'd loaded it in either lacquered or copper washed cases. I look at those "polymer coated" cases and I am imagining a great big furry red rust thumbprint growing on the side of each cartridge once it's loaded into a mag, and causing an extraction problem should I attempt to defend my life with it.

It'd be nice if the bullets were available as loading components. Then you could load them in brass and waterproof them and not worry about it.
>>
>>32607353
>I look at those "polymer coated" cases and I am imagining a great big furry red rust thumbprint growing on the side of each cartridge once it's loaded into a mag
?????
Nigga what retarded reasoning is behind this?
>>
>>32607364
His oils are pure salt. To be fair, polymer cases rust out where lacquer cases don't give a flying fuck. I've seen both types of ammo after a salt bath during a flood and the lacquer cases looked good as new hours later while the polymer was just a red rusted mass.
>>
>>32607388
Am I the only one whose fingers it turns black every time I load a mag?

Is that "polymer" shit anything but a dusting of graphite dry lube? It comes right off on your hands.

Lacquer is milspec for a reason. I am willing to plink with ammo loaded in bare steel cases, but not use it for defense, because it HAS to work.
>>
>>32607472
If it's graphite dry lubricant then I don't see why they are calling it polymer. I was under the impression the polymer coatings were just that, coatings of a latex like material.
>>
>>32607472
>Lacquer is milspec
Not anymore.

Lacquer is definitely smoother cycling, you'll never notice this but it is, roll some rounds of both in your hands, lacquer is way smoother.
>>
>>32607557

the russian army does not use/field polymer coated commercial ammunition, polymer coat is cheaper to make then lacquer which is the only reason it exists.

Military standard is still lacquered and sealed primer and bullet.

However, lately I and others have noticed with concern that there is Brown Bear that is coming as polymer. I emailed them and they assured me they will continue to offer both:

>"We will be stocking both types. This allows us to work around Russian government orders as they specify polymer, making lacquer available. Also some of our customers have a preference for one or the other.

Rear trunnions have been cast for decades, front trunnions have been forged for decades and will continue to be forged as long as Russia uses the AK rifle, and there's a reason why
>>
>>32607643
Well, the AK-74M wasn't replaced by a firearm in the AK-100 series.

AK-101: Full-sized 5.56
AK-102: Carbine 5.56
AK-103: Full-sized 7.62x39
AK-104: Carbine 7.62x39
AK-105: Carbine 5.45

AK-74M: Full-sized 5.45

I can't remember what the AK-106 is, or the AK-107 if it exists. I don't know why they seemingly dropped the AKs-74u, or perhaps they think it's just fine as is since it doesn't really need an optic unless you plan to have a night-vision one. So I can understand why it'd be called an AKs-74Nu or AKs-74uN. For some reason, making it AKS-74U just looks strange to me, even though it's AKMS instead of AKMs.

Why can't we import these instead of dimpleless WASR's?
>>
>>32608937
God damn, 007: Goldeneye was epic, even though it had a Soviet feel in spite of the Soviet Union having been gone for, what, 4 years? Movie was 1995 and game was 1997, right? Something like that. When I was 10-11 years old, I wanted to legitimately change my name to James Bond. Significantly cooler than when I was 12-13 and wanted to change my name to... God damn the cringe... Harry Potter. What can I say? I loved the novels when I was a kid. Still, so fucking much cringe...
>>
>>32611091
The AK-107 is the balanced recoil one. The AK-106 may exist, but it's not a production firearm. They dropped the AKS-74U/UN because that role is now filled by other weapons.
>>
>>32611099
In that configuration?

Because in 1989 the ATF reclassified what is considering a 'sporting' arm and that has features which don't fit. So, thanks to the GCA, it's not allowed in.
>>
>>32611104
Oh? But the AK-105 isn't as small as the AKs-74u. Perhaps they're going with that one funky bull-pup 9mm SMG with the spiral mag, or whatever it's called? Helical? Cylindrical? Can't remember the term. Pretty sure it ends in 'al'.
>>
>>32611091
The 107 is 5.45 with a recoil balancing system like the AEK 971. Wiki says the 108 is 5.56 and the 109 is 7.62 but I don't think they've made those yet, or at least I've never seen one
>>
>>32611108
Obviously not in that literal configuration. It'd have to come in as a sporter. Do you think I'm retarded?
>>
>>32611111

Bizon, that's the name. So they basically just stopped manufacturing AKs-74u. After all, how often do tankers actually need to shoot beyond mere training? Those little things will likely last decades and decades provided they're well maintained what with that corrosive ammo.

Izhmash announced they were going to start producing a Saiga MK-107, a civilian version of the AK-107. And they did just that. There was never guarantee that they were going to make a neutered version for the US market. We never even saw what this hypothetical US market Saiga 107 would look like.

It was a passing comment.

Izhmash will try and sell anything they possibly can to the US market. The US market was formerly their biggest civilian market. Obviously they're going to try.

Here's what happened: Izhmash announced they were going to start producing civilian models of the PP-19-01 and the AK-107 under the Saiga brand. They even had semi-auto floor models to show. US gun bloggers latched on to this and started writing about how Izhmash was going to start importing Saiga-9s and Saiga 107s because they knew it would get a lot of attention and ad revenue. You are what I would call one of the "suckers" who fell for it.

Izhmash never revealed a US compliant model and there was never a guarantee the ATF would approve whatever they submitted as kosher for import. Do you even know about the voluntary trade restriction with Russia?

>>32611241
Sorry you didn't get to shoot it before I left NC Chimps, but I might make it back down that way in the next year to visit friends.

Oh, and for the guy who thought I was the dude with the 1V and 5.45 mags, that isn't me. I actually started with a 5.45 slant back.
>>
>>32611295
Holy shit you are stupid. This isn't some blogger talking about the MK-107. This is the CEO of KC saying they planned on selling it in 2015. Why would they reveal a compliant model before they got approval from the ATF?

Jesus you are so scared of being wrong you'll contradict a company over what they were planning to do.
>>
>>32611214
So I looked up the Viyaz. In short, it's basically a 9mm AKs-74u, yeah? I don't get it. The firearm is about the same weight or heavier, and the ammo is if anything heavier than 5.45x39, undoubtedly less accurate, possibly higher recoil, though the mags are probably lighter so maybe the issue of ammo weight evens out a bit. The mags themselves will be less cumbersome, sure, but I mean... there seems to be basically all disadvantages compared to the AKs-74u assault rifle, and in spite of the short barrel and the hard hit to energy/velocity, it's still an assault rifle if only barely.

Does it use that over-pressure Russian stuff that's almost as potent as .357 Magnum? That might make it a bit more worthwhile.

That's because the 74M was the basis for the 100 series. It might not bare the name but it is for all intensive porpoises a 100 series AK.

He could also say they planned on selling pristine unmolested full auto old stock AK-74s. That carries no weight. He may have just been saying it to increase the outrage at the sanctions, which were a devastating blow to the company.

If you knew shit about shit then you'd know that Izhmash had been "planning" on selling Saiga-9s to the US for quite some time before the sanctions. And it never happened. Like I originally said: there was never a guarantee. I'm not afraid of being wrong because I know I'm not. You are the one scrambling to defend your original asinine baseless remark.

Oh yes, I'm being dishonest. I didn't provide a source or anything for my statements. Clearly the one telling the truth is you who provided nothing but your conjecture. I understand you think the CEO's statements may not have been true. However, you learned to consider sources in school, I hope, and a primary source (the CEO) means more than you who is not a source because you have no information other than your speculation.

>>32611392
Fair enough, I can buy that.

On a completely unrelated note, I just got a letter from the Military. Application to join was denied because of a bullshit form I got filled out by this cunt of a nurse in regards to my drinking that wasn't even accurate. I should have waited to see a DIFFERENT doctor who was FAR more optimistic about me joining and wasn't so terribly critical. I had to rush because of personal reasons, which are also bullshit. Well, I'm getting fucking drunk tonight, but I WILL go for review again. I've cut down my drinking SUBSTANTIALLY in the last 8 months, and have it down to twice a week which is essentially just weekend drinking. Perfectly reasonable! If need be, I'll cut down even more, but I have no withdraw effects from alcohol, and even when drunk, I'm aware of what's going on around me! If I ever say something when drunk, it's the same thing that's on my mind when sober, even if I'd normally not say it. The saying "drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts" DEFINITELY applies to me.

Fucking Hell, this shit pisses me off. Even been eating only 1-2 meals a day for the most part, and went at least one day without eating at all, so I can lose weight! Fuck them; I'm getting in whether they like it or not. I'll get back to where I was in 2013 physically, and I KNOW that drinking is not an issue for me. I have no 'shakes', I no longer have delirium tremens, my only problem is that I'm overweight. That is IT, and it can be fixed. I'm working towards fixing it. Even while overweight I can still do push-ups and sit-ups, and I've already reached out to 300m. If you give me a rifle tomorrow, even a WWII milsurp in decent condition, and a man-sized target at 400m, I'll hit that fucker! Even with irons, mark my words!

Sorry for the rant, had to get that off my chest... but this isn't over. I WILL join, and my drinking is NOT an issue.
>>

Valid point, but I won't be satisfied til it's perfect.

>>32611552
>What did he mess up?
I think we went over it before, but what the hell
>can still see the welds from where he "squared" the rear end
probably won't fix it because it's minor, but still annoying
>dicked up rivets, likely from a vice
Again, minor but annoying and unprofessional
>improper receiver markings
He used the english alphabet instead of cyrillic. I'll likely have this one welded over and properly done. It's actually embarrassing for me considering the amount of effort I put in to tracking down parts. Such a simple thing to not fuck up. All he had to do was tell me he couldn't do it and leave it blank and I would have been happier.
>no dimples on barrel components
Easy fix
>didn't cut the window for the side folder wide enough
I can't even fold my stock right now because the lever can't shift over far enough. Again, easy fix.

Only thing I'm worried about is if I have to get the whole rifle re-parkerized when it gets fixed, or if a builder can just touch up the spots that will be fixed.

If the whole rifle needs it, I'll just send it to PoHF for the fixes and get the moly-resin over park finish for it.
>tfw I couldn't get a hold of Mario for 4 months when I was trying to get it built originally
>tfw when I should have just waited for Mario all along

Regardless, she's a great shooter, and if molot ever gets more RPKs imported, I'll be getting another one in 5.45 so this one can become my beater and that one will be the collection piece.

>>

And this right here is 100% why I haven't taken the plunge into building. I'm sitting a few kits, but I know that if ANYTHING is off I'll dwell on it and be pissed over it. It NEEDS to be perfect and I know I'd have a hard time both finding somebody with the same level of autism as I do and willing to pay for a perfect build.
>>
>>32611656

>>32611637
Re-read your post from an objective point of view and ask yourself if this poster has a drinking problem
>>
>>32611679
They think it is, but only because of what that bitch of a nurse wrote on that piece of paper. The proper doctor I spoke to was far more optimistic about it, and was clearly going to write it in my favor. I had to hurry however, she wasn't available, so I had to go with a bloody nurse. Like I said, I only drink twice a week now, and if I were cut off completely I'd be just fine. Drinking is a non-issue. I do it because I enjoy it. The last time I drank was the 7th. Guess what; no shakes, and no DT! I went into the woods today to help clear the snowed-in trail so as to get a few more truckloads of wood this Winter, and that's a Hell of a work-out. Both getting wood, and also clearing the trail; we didn't bring the ski-doo. Two of us in just boots, and a third in proper snow shoes.

Now a year ago, if I went without booze and then had a strenuous workout (like walking 5km which I had done many times when I was at College, sometimes also going on 8km walks), I'd be shaking due to pushing myself. Now though, I still haven't had a drink yet today, I was huffing and puffing and sweating like mad in the woods, and I wasn't shaking at all; still not. Now a year ago, yes, the drinking could be considered a problem, but I'm just fine now. I'm at roughly every 3-4 days drink, and I'll continue cutting down to where I'm 5+ days between drinking, likely going to end up just drinking once a week, but it's not an issue. If I suffered from alcoholism, then I'd be suffering withdraw right now. It's been 4 days since my last drink and I have no symptoms. So cut me off completely, I'd be fine. Yeah, I'd miss it, obviously I'd miss it. I fucking love drinking, but that doesn't mean I'm addicted. I love to read as well; I'm not addicted to reading!
>>
>>32611690
Just because someone has a history of alcohol abuse doesn't mean it's currently a problem, provided it's left in history. As stated; I have no withdraw symptoms. I used to experience it once when I was at my worse, but that's a long time ago now. I don't even drink straight liquor anymore, just beer. I don't like it as much, mostly because it has more calories, but I still see it as yet another improvement. Also when I drink, I don't drink as much as I used to. Everything is improving. Just because I was a pretty bad alcoholic once doesn't mean I'm forever a drunk.
>>
>>32611619
What the fuck are you on about? The CEO of KC says "we were planning on selling [MK-107] in the States this year" and you feel the need to write multiple posts screeching at someone who says "yeah, but approval for importation is never a guarantee."

I don't know what world you live in where management forecasts are set in stone, but it certainly isn't ours. When know to some extent what KC planned, but we'll never know what would have actually happened in a world without the sanctions.

That bayonet cost more than the rifle, original M39 bayonets are scarce and expensive. They were all scrapped post war and very few survived.

Bloody shame; always tragic when Military equipment is just scrapped. With the right market, they could actually make a mint off it. But just post-war? I hear very few people were into firearms or bayonets or things then. I guess after such loss of life, people lost their taste for things like bayonets that can't be used for hunting or even target shooting. I mean, anyone here lost a brother, son, father, or someone in the Afghan or Iraq War? I dare say that'd alter your view on the matter. But imagine if you've lost SEVERAL members of your family to the war. A cousin, a brother, a sister who might have been a medic, an uncle who was a higher ranking fellow but ended up getting killed somehow. Suddenly the prospect of buying a bayonet from the conflict that took so many people might be decidedly unwelcome. Just a thought.

Think about how ridiculous that sounds. Deciding to part out a Tiger because it wouldn't sell at 3k.

Scam written all over it. Any one of these Armslist Tiger sellers, message them saying you're interested and local and would like to purchase it in cash, face to face. None of them will reply. Now message them again saying you're across the country and you see they have it listed at 3,000 but you're wondering if they'll settle for 2,800 shipped.

That's how a lot of the AK world in the west works. It's very much an oral history type thing; most of the documentation about the subject is in Russian and despite the fanaticism some people have for it, few of them speak Russian. Fewer still can point you to authoritative, cited sources.

Even the Russians themselves didn't record this stuff as well as they should have, from the looks of it. A lot of AK history is basically modern archaeology at this point, and short of it being in something like the Kalashnikov Encyclopedia (which is $200 and relatively recently published), most of the time the best "proof" you'll get is "Tantal said so on AK Forum."

Just how it is.

Then again, it boils down to "literally google" if someone needs an exact source. In /akg/ you're either gonna hear it from a knowledgeable anon or trip, or on a forum you're going to hear it from a knowledgeable user who is nothing more than a username on a screen.

>or on a forum you're going to hear it from a knowledgeable user who is nothing more than a username on a screen.
Who is still unbelievable unless they provide some sort of back up to their statements like Fiorentino of The AK Forum did.

Why is this so hard for you people to understand?
>>
>>32613962
Right, but like >>32613933 said, most of the time the evidence can't be presented in a web format. A good example is something I found while doing research for my '83 build, namely, that wood furniture stopped being used on AK-74s in 1985. Is there any sort of hard evidence in a book or technical manual or announcements or anything that one can point to for that? No, the only "proof" is that nobody's seen a 1986-dated full-size AK-74 that used wood furniture.

The thing to keep in mind when dealing with AKs is that the Russians kept such poor records most of the time that most AK production variant and timeline knowledge isn't knowledge so much as it is theory - it's assumed true based on existing findings until it is proven not to be (see also: people thinking Tula never made full-size 74s until Tantal hooked Snickers up with one). Absence of evidence isn't the evidence of absence, that sort of thing.

>>
>>32614063
Wouldn't be the first thing you believed based on nothing, would it?
>>
>>32614048
It is how theories work. You have whatever evidence you can muster to push a theory, but it's never treated as 100% fact because there's always the possibility new evidence can prove it wrong. It is, however, assumed true when it can be because it's the closest you have to a confirmed truth. Einstein's theory of relativity wasn't proven until last year, but many scientists used it as a building block for their research anyway. It's a similar idea here.
>>
>>32614022
>Why is this so hard for you people to understand?
Because this isn't some enlightening groundbreaking new AK related fact that a source is needed to prove or disprove, it's something as simple as "when did production of AKS-74Us end?" which is little different than when someone asks "Hey what's the arrow in triangle mark mean?" and someone answers "Izhmash." That person doesn't go around screaming for a source for that info simply because simply found and basic knowledge.

I use a South Aftican Pattern 83 chest rig with all of my rifles. It works fine with both 7.62 and 5.45 AK mags, AR mags, and vz.58 mags, and with FAL mags I've got to to stuff a sock in each mag pocket to easily get the mag out

I use one of three different packs depending on how much stuff I want to carry and for how long: either a Czech breadbag for carrying a little for a little bit, an East German combat pack for a medium amount of stuff and for a medium amount of time, or a Swedish LK35 for a lot of stuff for a longer period of time. It's probably 60% of the time the Swedish pack, 30% of the time the East German pack, and 10% of the time the Czech pack (only really use that one when doing a quick hike to a specific spot or something)

I was made aware of it back around 2004ish back when 4chan still had frames. Poked my head around in /m/, didn't see anything BattleTech-related, fucked off.

I came back around 2007/2008 when I discovered /b/ and /d/, then found my way to /k/ since I wanted to buy a gun around the time I turned 19 in 2009. From there I bounced out to OPChan for a while for /k/ stuff and stuck around /v/ more than I did my college campus, transitioned over to /vg/ when that became a thing, and then went *chan-less for a year or two. I only recently came back to /k/ this past year since OPChan is pretty dead these days and I can't find too many other places that are eager to talk guns and aren't full of contemptuous old fudds and middle-aged men who blow $3K on each rifle they buy and then sell them for half that when their wives decide to divorce them over the credit card bill.

I must have been about 13 or 14 when I first came here. I turned 27 late last year. I think I've realized I'm gonna be here forever and turn into one of the resident oldfags, but I think I've made my peace with it. Most places don't really accept people like us even if we wanted to leave.

Now it's a bastion for you guys, and I hope you keep it going long after I'm gone.

In the begining it seems like I was posting constantly just to keep threads alive.

Don't know you buddy but I hope you stick around for a long time. Used to hop into AR threads myself and dudes would be arguing over weights of their rails and how something isn't holding zero because they Cheaped out for some reason. AR General has always = Circle Jerk to me. I don't ever see them comparing techniques or anything. Just filters after filters of their DD ar on some fucking wood table because wooden tables make everything look so much more fucking manly
>God I want a DD AR

Colt AR's are nicer than the run of the mill
>>
>>32616122
As much as I love my AR, it's extremely boring. There's just something cathartic about shooting AKs

New/used?? Key words before the ban..

>Don't know you buddy
That's the way I like it, most of the time.
Never tripped, but those in the know, know me.
I remember buying my first 103 mags from Chimps, and someone trying to talk me out of it because "He's a rip off artist" and "was charging too much" for the 45 rounders he also had.
>Sending some sketchy guy from 4chan money
That turned out to be the beginning of the bug.
I'm likely here forever, anon.

>Chimps response to that accusation has become a classic rebuttal

/out/ is one of the most recently created boards

You're full of shit
>>
>>32611948
The handguard retainers and the part of the gas tube that faces you when in the rifle(the end the piston head reciprocates in and out of) seems thinner than on my wasr or Atlantic arms polish parts kit AKs.

Also did your pistons face arrive to you black? Like it was park'd or already covered in carbon? And do you know if any of the parts are cast? I would hope not on a $1000+ rifle, but I couldn't find much info
>>
>>32611948
And sorry for the super late reply, was at work.
>>
So I'm trying to figure out what AK o get, but there's so many brands and manufacturers I'm having trouble puzzling shit out. I know i shouldn't get anything from Century, except maybe a WASR, but I'd really prefer something in 5.45 instead.

Aesthetics on the triangle side folder are top tier, but the stock is just so bad.

>anon and Chimps layin down the facts
haha yeah I'm such an oldfag, I remember posting so much on /asp/ and /his/ way back in 2004 lol memes lol

>>32616385
I always forget this was Chimps's photo, and occasionally I'll remember it was his and it makes it even funnier. This was long before /akg/ too, and I wonder how many times its surfaced in /akg/ and where else it's spread online
>>
>>32616385
I feel like I'm pretty good at identifying you based on nothing other than your posting style

>>32616415
The black on the piston is probably just carbon from test firing, it's way too much trouble and zero benefit to clean that carbon off
>>
>>32616456
You've obviously never used one then.

I like it so much i sold the original furniture.
Comfy/10

I just bought an Arsenal SLR104-FR. I'm new to the AK platform. What's some cool stuff I can buy to spend even more money on my new AK? Is it expensive to into bakelite?
>>
>>32616460
>This was long before /akg/ too
Not really.
There were increasing number of AK threads around that time and I wanted to try and consolidate them.
It wasn't /akg/ just yet but it was pretty close to the beginning.

>>32616467
>I feel like I'm pretty good at identifying you based on nothing other than your posting style
Very likely.
>Unless I'm in full Wild Turkey shitpost mode.
Like your Glock painted mag thread, I go a little far.
But it's infrequent, I like a good and civil /akg/.

New thread is coming up.

For the dimensions for the end cut receiver, is it 32x31mm or 32x32mm? Looked everywhere on gaggle but could not find.

>Carbon
Yeah that's what I was told in the last thread, think it was you then too. Tried to soak it in hoppes 9 for an hour and scrub. It barely put a dent in it lol. It just made it look like " the surface of the moon". I'm just super ocd about stuff like that, it's a curse :/
