If I ever needed to hunt down an advanced organism through a crowded hive city, this is what I'd pick, just saying. I want the advanced organism to go down no matter where I hit.

(Shame it doesn't come in .44 mag)
>>
>>32602523

Did you even watch the movie?
>>
>>32602536
Not op, but term android refers to anything humanoid that was created with a technological base, doesn't matter if it's organic. So an android can be a full on robot or a synthetic organism, but it must resemble a human.

Then there's the Terminator conundrum. Terminators would be both Androids and Cyborgs. Android because it's humanoid looking but technologically created, cyborg once you give it living skin that forms part of it's organism.

Also, back on topic, Deckard's gun isn't supposed to be a revolver, it's supposed to be an energy based blaster.
>>
>>32602572

I did and he is still hunting killing machines with a revolver.

I don't care if he has 454 casull loaded with it, he will miss because the killing machines have been designed to survive people shooting at them (soldiers) and he will need more ammo.

In fact, he runs into that problem with the fight with Roy and has to ditch the gun.
>>
>>32602627
You can reload revolvers in a similar time to semi-autos if you bother to train your reload. Stop being such an autist, revolvers exist since 1814 old and there's a reason they are still the most popular form of handgun even with all the taticool shit out there today.
>>
>>32602627
Just because you can't shoot doesn't mean no one else can.
>>
>>32602523
Its a movie, it looks cool, and it isn't the primary point of the film.

So a cyborg is an android with living organic components?
>>
>>32604277
Technically every being that consists of both organic and robotic parts, is a cyborg. Therefore people with modern prostetics are - by definition - cyborgs.
>>
>>32604277
A cyborg starts as human and ads robotic (cybernetic) components.

An android is a robot designed to simulate a human.

Robot/terminator a is a machine build specifically to do a task efficiently.
In terminator case, kill humans/spread terror and so forth.

Its not a revolver, a six shot, in any sense, it operates like a fucking plasma caster you faggot, it even has 2 firing mode in addition to being discreet enough to stay under the radar which is why they called in Decker in the first place instead of just sending in futuristic swat teams to bomb the fuck out of the city. The whole thing was a play on the classic film noir private investigator anyways.

The argument for making synthetics humanoids is simple, instead of having to real people real money to do dangerous jobs, just make people with no human rights, if they get hurt repair them, if they die, make more. Making them sentient is just good business since with a sense of self they'd be inclined not to die, and stick around doing their job better and longer.

This anon has a point.
Part of the reason films like Blade Runner and Star Wars are so Damon good and widely beloved is because they incorporate elements of fantasy along with the sci-fi. The point wasn't to make a super-realistic futuristic film, it was to make a cool movie, and it worked.
I dislike the direction sci-fi cinema has gone in recent years with hard sci-fi. I don't mind it sometimes, but all the time trying so hard to be "realistic" is a little much for me.

First, let's get the whole cyborg/android/replicant thing out of the way.

An android is a robot that looks human - completely being machine and synthetic; but resembles a person. R2-D2 is considered a robot because he does not resemble a human being (however, he is referred to as a "droid" in the movies). The term is, essentially, synonymous with robot - however, a robot connotes less-than-human-like qualities or characteristics.

A cyborg (cybernetic organism) is an artificially augmented life-form. Someone mentioned a Terminator as being a cyborg, even though they are more so an android/robot wearing living tissue. No, to be a REAL cyborg, you'd have to be augmented - like Adam Jensen or the extreme case of RoboCop. The key word here is organism, it had to start off as alive or living and it has to be somewhat intact (even when being incredibly augmented - but the lines get blurry. Like a brain in a jar that "pilots" a robot).

Lastly, a replicant is the term used in the Blade Runner film. In Phillip K Dick's novel (which the film is based off of) "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" - where they are exclusively referred to as androids. "Replicant" was given to them by Ridley Scott for the film.

A replicant is a bioengineered, synthetic human. They are not born, they are made. They are made to appear as human adults and have enhanced strength, endurance, and intelligence (for slave reasons). They also only last 3-4 years before they expire or "die". One major distinction between a replicant and a human is that a replicant has no emotions or empathy. That's why they develop a machine and a test to determine if they are "human or not". Replicants are further controlled/manipulated by having them be given false memories.

Now, to keep this /k/ - there is a COP .357 derringer used in the film (it's a quadbarrel IRL); and Deckard's gun is a hodgepodge of multiple guns.
>pic related

It's also not meant to be a revolver (even though it's built from one) but a blastr

This. Is it ever established that the Detective Special was actually a 6 shot revolver and that the revolver was not just part of the prop design?

It's got two triggers, a lever from a bolt action, and an ejection port. Are we to assume it can fire twice before needing to cycle, that you have to cycle the bolt to charge it rather than cocking a hammer, and it magically ejects cartridges from the cylinder up to and out of the ejection port?

It's referred to as a "Blaster" constantly so it's some kind of energy weapon, probably.

Also,
>Originally designed by Syd Mead, which was a "black hole gun" firing a black beam was rejected in favor of more realistic gun. it is rumored that original design was still used somewhere in the film albeit as an unrelated object.
Pic related. It was probably always intended to be an exotic futuristic energy weapon, with it being some kind of .223 pistol in pop culture being based on its appearance in Fallout (and it being a revolver being based on New Vegas (which is a bad game and you're shit if you play it))

Do you notice how the top part of it is exactly inline with the barrel?
Do you see any kind of magazine anywhere on the weapon, or anywhere .223 cartridges could be feed other than the cylinder?

>WORLDMAP.TXT... referred to as an autoloader.

Autoloader can barely be applied to a hand held weapon. And even if you want to stretch the term, it can be applied to every double action weapon.

Replicants are fully organic; they're just created in a lab rather than being born and growing into adults. In the movie you see each scale from a replicant snake has tiny serial numbers imprinted on them.

357 and good shot placement would retire a replicant just as well as it retires humans.

Both are correct. With emotions comes a self awareness of their situation and a tendency to flee their current "life". Couple this with the fact that they can easily over power a human being in almost every aspect (and the overpowering features start piling higher up with the newer models) and you get to the limited life span solution pretty quick.
