What the fuck is the difference between WASR, VEPR, Tula, Ishmash and Molot? Where should I look to start buying/assembling a Kalashnikov on 5.45?

Slr104.

aren't these rifles $200 - $300 what the fuck
>>32585218
They are only $1000
>>32585186
WASR is Cugir Romania. It's basically a combloc AKM-pattern rifle imported in a "sporter" config and has its magwell opened up to accept double stack mags.
Tula and Izhmash are the two major AK producers in Russia, Izhmash being the larger one. During the Cold War, both made AK-47s, AKMs, and AK-74s, with Tula branching into AKS-74U focus while Izhmash continued making AK-74s and, later, AK-74Ms and the AK-100 series. Izhmash now produces guns under the Kalashnikov Concern brand and is banned from exporting Saigas, which they make, to the US due to Obama sanctions as a result.
Molot is a third major producer of Russian small arms and makes the RPK. They are not part of Kalashnikov Concern and thus can export guns to the US. They make AK-pattern rifles as VEPRs in multiple calibers including 5.45, but VEPRs use the RPK trunnion and thus do not accept standard AK furniture.
If you want to buy an AK in 5.45, it's best to start by figuring out exactly what type you want. There's quite a few variations, and depending on what you want, it may be better to buy a new Arsenal SLR-series AK (made in Bulgaria) instead of buying a parts kit to build one instead.
>>32585216
Any "should" be able to do it, depends if you want it done on a large or not.
I did mine with a hacksaw file and crown cutter

Pretty obnoxious that it has been this long.
The m53 build sounds better, day by day

Yeah I definitely don't have enough confidence in my gunsmithing ability to do that.
>>32585396
lol you're gonna need a garage
>>32585521

>>32585750
Lol no rate, just have to find a time the weather is nice and you have a couple days free. (Nice weather to test the wind chimes in)
Anyone have an idea where I might obtain a Romanian side folding stock? There is a bunch of ebay listings calling them "airsoft" but I cant tell if they're real or not.

>option 1: Arsenal 106F for $700, would put a 4.5mm triangle sidefolder and a rail on it. need to know where to have a side rail installed or if I can do it myself, saw the MPK2 rail come up as something easy. also could use recs on places to sell the poly sidefolder and Arsenal railed handguard it comes with?
>option 2: Saiga .223 for $550, need to know where to get conversions done for the cheapest or what the minimal tooling required to do it myself is
live in Atlanta if that helps
Has any arsenal owners experience their trigger guard rivets walking off due to akt alg? Watching rob skis newest video sort of makes me want to order a cheap dremel set and grind the disconnect or off.
>>32586481
I'm near Atlanta also. Where are you seeing these deals?

>>32585974
>There is a bunch of ebay listings calling them "airsoft" but I cant tell if they're real or not.
Since eBay has gun restrictions, a lot of sellers bypass this by calling their parts airsoft parts. Which can make things tricky since people selling real airsoft parts call theirs airsoft too. Try sending the seller a private message. I did that once for an AK stock set from russia. The description called it airsoft so I sent him a PM and he told me it was plum furniture for a real AK. I bought it, put it on, and it fits perfectly.
Sorry for the ramble.
>>32586562
Pretty sure that guy and Rob were talking about the back side of the disconnector (toward the rear trunnion) and just grinding it a bit shorter, not actually off.
>>32586484
I'd say do it. Dremel tools are super handy to have around the house, and then just grind it down short enough to clear that rivet, like in Rob's video.
>>32584915
No, it'll be fine. I would say all, if not nearly all, of the problems you hear of with cutting down the barrel is due to morons fucking up the crowns.
My rear sight is canted so I put on a rail to mount an optic. Looking at the Primary Arms advanced micro dot.
Also, whats a nice OD green sling for AKs?
>>32588026
What AK is that?

>>32588055
Id rather have an optic than deal with canted sights. I can still get 1/3 cowitness to fix em up though. Also wanted it all black so I like it better this way.
>>32587567
they are on sale at primaryarms dot com, and you can use the same mount. I had the old style, wasn't bad, but man do i love the look of the blade.
>>32587420

>>32588211
shockwave blade
>>32588230
Thnx bby
>hey man are you willing to split up [lot]
>haha sure just buy everything else too :^
Why do people do this? Now I probably won't buy it even if you decide to split it up later cunt
>>32588736
What pisses me off more than anything else is when you post an "I'll take it" and send the guy all your info and are getting ready to send funds his way when he posts "Item is SPF, still taking seconds though"
Like fuck you guy, I've sent you all my shit and I'm just waiting on you to tell me where to send funds to and you go on ahead taking offers from other people after I've already said I'd buy it and sent you my address? Keep your shit then.
SAFN is that you?
That shit literally just happened on FAL Files last night
>>32588766
What does SPF mean? Ive got a files account and want to buy shit but haven't yet.
>>32588838
Sold Pending Funds. Basically, someone claimed it but hasn't paid yet.
>>32588062
Why the fuck didn't you just get a Master Mount?
Ultimaks look nasty, and boil optics.
>>32585533
Is that first gun(the German mg, no I don't know which one it is) real(I assume semi auto only if it is?) or a deac?
>>32588816
Not me, but It happens all the time to me on the AKfiles when buying from newer people (not 0 feedback new but like less than 20 feedback new)
It pisses me off to no end. I mean I get it when someone claims it but doesn't follow up with a PM and hasn't been in touch in like a day, but when someone immediately PMs the seller with all the needed info and asks for where to send finds and the seller still pulls that shit it makes me mad
>>32588766
Gotta cover your bases. I don't see why you'd care unless he sells it out from under you.
>>32588869
It's an MG42 and while it certainly could be a real deal MG42 since there are a few on the registry, I'd guess it's a semo auto kit build.
>>32588736
>>32588766
>PM sent
This always pisses me off, just state what you want so everyone else know's it's claimed.
Took a pic of my '74's in their current states.
>>32588910
I've had that happen once. I claimed it, sent the guy my info, and then he sold it to someone else in the thread a couple hours later
>>32588943
Technically the marketplace requires an "I'll take it", so I've always said I'll take it, copy and paste the exact item in wanting, and say a pm is incoming
>>32588866
Didnt want one, and this is a Midwest Industries gen 2 AK rail. Might heat up a bit but I wont put a cheapo optic on it. Plus I wanted to cowitness.
>>32588989
Still, Master Mount gives you way more options for optics, and more options for cowitness, for that matter.
>>32588943
I like your rifles.
>>32589016
>Meant to attach pic
>>32588897
>less than 20 feedback new
AK Files sellers almost never actually leave feedback for good buyers, so unless you're running an AK part shop out of your garage like some of those guys it takes for-fucking-ever to get to that level of feedback.
Fuck, I've been there since 2014 and I think I have like 9 feedback total. I *know* I've bought and sold more than 9 times.
>>32589032
>mfw i have 15 already....
Its only been like 6months.
>>32589032
I've been there for a couple of years, have received positive feedback for everything I have bought but the most recent item.
>>32589016
Thanks m8
>>32589070
Is that a poilsh underfolder ?
>>32589032
What makes me mad is that ive sold like four firearms worth a total of like $1800 and none of those buyers left any feedback
Now when I try to sell guns people don't want to buy because they don't trust me because according to my feedback I've never sold anything that big and expensive but I actually have, it's just that nobody has left feedback for it. The only feedback I've been left as a seller has been for small things like the occasional mag or part. It makes me mad
I've been a member for pushing 2.5 years and only just broke 20 feedback because nobody leaves feedback. The only ones who do are established sellers who know to leave feedback.
>>32589070
The easiest way to get good feedback as a buyer is to leave good feedback for the seller once you receive the item. It helps to also send a message saying thanks and that it arrived. It puts you back on their mind and they'll be inclined to reciprocate the feedback.
60+ feedback mostly seller feedback though
>>32589115
Just ask for feedback ? Kinda douchy but ibalways leave feedback if they ask.
>>32589115
And I'm autistic about leaving feedback, as soon as I receive funds for an item I leave feedback, and as soon as an item arrives that I've bought I leave feedback. I've left well over 50 feedback for others, but I've only been returned like 40% of that
>>32589101
The stock and rear trunnion are Polish, rest is Romanian.
>>32589118
That is what I do.
>>32589115
Who cares if the retards on that site trust you? It's AKFiles, someone will buy it.
Mag pile
>>32589161
Looks like you need to better house train your AK.
>>32588115
I may have to get one. I use a rfk block to keep the brace I have now from rotating and had two qd mounts...I wonder if it works on the blade.
>>32589150
Ah my desire for a underfolder increase by the day...
>>32589246
Everyone shits on underfolders but I really like both of mine. Better than the Romanian/EG/Polish wire folders.
Need some advice friends. Bought a newer production WASR, 2015 model a few months ago. Just been plinking with it and haven't sighted it in yet, but my rear sight block is canted to the right, if your looking from the buttstock to the muzzle. Can't tell it unless you look at the sight block, so it isn't too bad. Can it be zeroed you think? Or would I be better off getting an optic? And if it can be zeroed, is the whole 25/300 meter zero thing legit or just a meme?
>>32589417
Its been a dream of mine, but i wont settle with a yugo. nothing against them, chrome lined barrel is a must for me.
When will people in America care about 5.45 like they do 7.62?
>>32589495
I've got 5 Yugos now, M70B1, M70B2, M72, M92 PAP and an SKS. I don't mind them having non-chrome barrels as that's how they were made originally.
Fuck, I just dropped $100 on a proper M92 selector and an M92 PAP rear trunnion to have milled for my M92. Still looking for a Yugo underfolder stock.
>>32589615
Well id like a yugo eventually for the right price. Just need that polish gun first.
>>32586484
the AKG is out of spec in hardness, both my SLR's with bulgarian FCG's dont just have light finish wear and both have over 2500 rounds.
What are the odds my SLR104 will have canted sights or gas block?
>>32589678
I think you forgot your trip
>>32589722
Negative
>npz pso is 300 from akfiles optics guy
This is the tax I'm gonna have to pay isn't it
Do you guys deal with wobbly muzzle devices? I figure most of you will, but mine seems pretty loose. Cant tighten it anymore, only a half turn until I cant go any further. It should be fine since the plunger pin keeps it from rotating right?
>>32588054
Armslist?
>>32589832
I let them wobble.
>>32589678
I like them, I paid the most for my M72
>>32589832
https://youtu.be/v3DbvdmcOPs?t=162
My brother bought a DTK2 for his 104
Don't see any reviews on them, are they any good?
>>32589885
I'm not doing that for 13 AK's, I'll continue to thread them on until they stop and then back them off until the plunger goes in it's slot.
Thanks for the video though.
>>32589922
How wobbly?
they should have a little play
>>32589944
>they should have a little play
That's not true. There's no reason they "should" have a little play. Because most do have a little play doesn't mean it's something that has to be there.
not him, btw.
>>32589944
Not wobbly enough to trigger my autism. Not wobbly enough to affect anything.
>>32589961
It is true because they are not designed to be tightened down., there is no mechanism which is meant to keep them from wobbling and they are not intended to be torques on beyond wobble
The proper tightness with the plunger in place should have some wobble.
>>32589968
you are good then
>>32590027
what's up with that dirty floor? is that a garage or a workshop?
>>32590033
kinda, its a balcony that i use as a haji workshop. Plus AZ is dusty as fuck.
>>32589989
>they are not designed to be tightened down.,
We can both agree that they are designed to lock into the plunger. Since muzzle devices are not made to some specific tolerance in how they fit, some of mine tighten up when they lock into the plunger, and some can go a quarter turn or more past the plunger. Therefor I'll file a little off of my loose ones so they can go on around and then be tight when they lock into the plunger.
You don't want to do it? Fine. Walk around with your muzzle device rattling on the end of your barrel. My shit fits properly.

I have a question about my AK.
It says on the left side of the receiver "Zastava Serbia" with an N-PAP serial number above it, but on the right side, it says "C.A.I. Georgia VT".
Is the weapon Serbian made and "C.A.I. Georgia VT" just an import stamp or something?
Thank you in advance.
>>32590994
yup that its why its nice here
>>32590801
Fuck no.
Got drunk with my sister, who does graphic design work, and this is what happened. It's gonna have a retro 80s theme, with neon highlights on the mag, handguard, and grip. The stock will have "Rad Dawn" in splashy text on one side, and a commie star done up like pic related on the other.
There was a dude at the range I go to the other day shooting an M1A, M1 carbine, and some other nice milsurp stuff. I went over to talk to him and all he could do was trash my AK and go on about how he'd chop the barrels off of them and bust them against trees in Vietnam. I figure if he didn't like my AK then he'll have a fuckin' aneurysm next time he sees it.

Also correct.
>>32590729
Thanks. I agree that it'd be better suited on an AR, or covering the whole gun, but I don't have an AR and I don't wanna fuck my gun up. I don't really care too much about the polymer furniture, I normally have wood on the gun anyways.
>>32591054

Not bad other than a ridiculously soft barrel. Like a 5RC when all other AK's use around 25RC. So if you aren't going to shoot it much, go for it. If you plan on putting a few thousand rounds through it, then the barrel might go to shit way sooner than it should.

Those East German Zeiss ones for the 5.45 cartridge are pretty cool, I've been on the fence about picking one up for a few months. They shot a match with one on InRange TV recently and he had nothing but praise for it.
They're pretty spensive tho but they apparently live up to the Zeiss name and the German reputation
>>32591540
Those 2.8 ones? I saw them but they're way too expensive, for that price I'd rather get a Zeiss for my FAL
Plus it's relatively low magnification, which is really hurting me for basically everything I'm looking at
>>32591488
Unfortunately not. Riley Defense is basically IO inc, just a different name. Shit.
>>32591511
>DDI is PSA
Not really. Sure DDI very recently sold to the same parent company that owns PSA, but PSA rifles are much higher quality than DDI. DDI extractors break after a few hundred rounds. PSA can survive the 5000 round torture test.
>>32591488
build one you filthy nigger
get an unbarreled AMD-65 kit and go from there.
>>32591564
>but PSA rifles are much higher quality than DDI
>>32590347
>>32590483
Pics as promised. Sorry they suck only camera I have is my phone you can see on one side, the left, there is a gap between the trunnion and the rear sight block, and on the right side there isn't. Easier to see in person. Is my rifles irons still zero-able?
>>32591604
Another one, first one I had the phone tilted so the cant looks a lot worse than IRL.
>>32591617
Shoot it and find out
>>32591617
Kek I had an Arsenal like that, I just couldn't
>>32591599
>PSA can survive the 5000 round torture test.
Can DDI? No. It can't.
>>32591628
Ive shot it as is without trying to zero and it seems off to me. only shot it at about 20 yards.
>>32591660
Couldn't what, zero it?
Any parts kits for 5.45, say minus barrel & receiver?
>>32591707
>Sample size of one has a failure
>"all guns are bad"
And now you know why people dont take youtube seriously
>>32591759
Any country you are looking for in specific?
>>32591762
>Sample size of one has a failure
Except that's wrong. "A failure" indicates one failure. His extractor broke so they sent him another one and that one broke too.
>>32591797
His sample size is still one rifle. That one rifle may have a defect that causes extractor issues.
>>32591759
Plenty. Rguns has both Russian and Bulgarian examples.
>>32591565
All i see is pre-barreled
>>32584971
why is there tape on it?
>>32591914
he thinks it looks cool
>>32591832
Haha. Whatever it takes to help DDI owners sleep at night.
would this be good for a first AK?
>>32591762
Here in the states if possible. For sale in the states not manufactured in the states. Unless there's no other choice.
>>32592119
You fucking retard
>>32592142
wow thanks very informative faggot
>>32592142
He's just new. Chill out.
>>32592119
The guy was asking you what country of origin were you looking for. Made in russia, romania, bulgaria, yugoslavia (serbia) etc...
>>32592185
Well now I feel awfully dumb. I am ill-informed and have not heard much about Kalashnikovs other than Russian & Romanian ones being great, so I'd have to go with either one of them.
>>32592207
opposite ends of the spectrum there.
Romanians, while not awful compared to some american made hacks, are shit compared to most european AKs.
That being said if you are doing an american barrel and receiver it doesn't matter too much.
You need to just go buy a barreled kit from AK-Builder or Arms-of-America and start there. Buy the cheapest kit you can find and get the tools ready.
Then worry about parts kit quality and such.
There was an anon in here recently that got an OKP 7. How do you like it and how much did you pay?
>>32592246
I appreciate your insight on the matter, thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
>>32590806
If that's true it's too funny
kalashnicuck wants 1699 for their American made Vityaz clone.
DDI is helping in the manufacture.

>>32592607
He said specifically that's a pre-sale price specifically for the special package that comes in a crate, with all three magwells and two mags for each magwell, and a "low serial number"
Final price for production run ones will probably be a couple hunned lower or so
>>32592607
Can't wait
Alright /akg/ I've got a question about AK's.
What's better all around (price, availability, ballistics, hunting, mags ect.) 5.45 or 7.62? I know 7.62 is more common, but is 5.45 still decently common enough that I could get it if I need it? I want to get an AK but I've hit yet another crossroad. I want something for outdoors, plinking, shtf, home defense, pretty much everything. And I can't decide, I figured up until recently that I would get an AK in 7.62x39 but I've recently been falling in love with the 5.45 round and I can't get it off my mind. I've picked out a rifle in 7.62 that I want, but I know next to nothing about 5.45 other than the rifles chambered for it are more expensive (as far as I can see).
Arsenals seem good and I must say that I do indeed like the look of them, I know its a pretty good company and all, but is there anything else? If I would be better off with 5.45 I'll go with that, but I need to know which rifles to look for.
>>32592853
Mmm, fresh Tiger.
It's not 8M3, but it'll do.
My 5.45 was supposed to be here today but it hasn't shown up, and checking tracking info UPS now says under expected delivery date "information unavailable" and tracking info hasn't been updated since it arrived at a town about 4 hours away at 5am
>>32592853
I keep every one of those little pieces of paper tbqh, I've got a drawer full of them from GT. It's pointless but I just like it
>>32592751
Can't even make a proper RPK clone.
>>32592919
Is there a big snow storm nearby that could be fucking shit up?
>>32592853
the goat 7.62x39
>>32592919
Most likely just being slowed down in the endless sea of people who cant be bothered to move with a sense of urgency. My last shipment of 5.45 took quite a bit longer than it should have as well.
She is such a kkwore. I'm itching for a new AK. Not sure which.
Just refinished my WASR, really happy with how it came out
Nice!
Is there something I'm missing about kit builds? I just started doing research on them because they seem really interesting, and from what (admittedly very limited) information I've gathered its as easy as buying the parts kit, buying a receiver, either 80% or 100%, and buying some rivets, then slapping them together.
So theoretically I could buy a 100% like the nodak NDS-2 EZ for ~$130 after FFL fee, then buy a 74 parts kit for ~$500 give or take, then have a brand new 5.45 ak? There has to be something I'm missing or overlooking here.
>>32592979
Nah I live in WA and the package arrived in WA 12 hours ago and is only 2 hours away
>>32593039
I don't mind anything being late as long as whichever carrier gives me a heads up that it'll be late. I've been told since Thursday that it'll arrive today so I took time off work to sign for them but they never showed and now UPS is saying any info is unavailable
>>32592919
Feels good man
>>32593238
>There has to be something I'm missing or overlooking here.
Yeah, about $500 in tooling.
Pressed rivets aren't like pop rivets.
>>32593238
Its not AR durr hurr simple, you actually need to know how to use a press and stuff.
>>32592918
the 8m3 being poly cased is a complete fail, shits rusts so easily.

What the heck. Why do they paint over these writings from what I assume was factory? I guess some people might dislike, "made in Russia" but I think it's neat.

Why are these so many new useless trips?
>>32593692
Why dont you ever take new pictures ?
Is an RPK receiver overkill for a 5.45 rifle? I saw the new VEPR on K-Var. Maybe alternative to Arsenal for high quality AKs?
Also, whats up with the gasblock, I thought 45 degree ones caused problems with the 5.45 round?
>>32593624
Arsenal? I never see railed handguards like that
>>32593743
It's an AK9 handguard, good luck finding one
It's not the most useful rail system anyways, but you can get a B10 if you want the same rail layout but not search months for it
>>32593374
Funny you should ask, the magazine catch is heavy as bawls. Might tinker with it.
>>32593722
45 degree gas blocks cause problems if the gas port is drilled at a 45 degree angle as well,it causes bullet sheer with 5.45. Most 5.45 rifles with a 45 degree gas block have the ports drilled at 90, a good example of this would be a SAR-2. I cant confirm but id imagine the 5.45 VEPR's gas port is drilled at 90.
>>32593654

Hypothetically if someone did something absolutely crazy like attach an SVD barrel to a 7.62x39mm AK receiver, would the twist rate fuck up any and all groupings you would have gotten with a normal Kalashnikov barrel?

If you're talking just AK-47/AKM, your options are WASR, Interarms, and PAPs on the lower end, James River or hard-to-find DDI parts builds for mid-tier, or Arsenal for high tier. As for 5.45 you basically get to choose between Arsenal or converted Saiga, unless you want one of those sporterized RPK FIME VEPR rifles. Rob Ski really, really liked the VEPR though, so there's that
