basically the moral of black hawk down is that delta force made up of legolas, jamie lannister, Obi Wan and Bane can be taken down by a bunch of illiterate niggers with aks.

Is there even a point of special forces when the law of numbers is so much more important in modern warfare?
>>
>>32584825
>Well trained soldiers can be killed by a massive, non-stop attacking horde of enemies.

Nazi Germany also is a good example of this. It will just cost you alot more men to kill one guy. Is one guy really worth countless lives?
>>
>>32584825
The k/d ratio at Mogadishu was like 30:1
>>
>>32584825

You forgot Hector of Troy and Lucius Malfoy
>>
>>32584841
>Is one guy really worth countless lives?
According to the Soviets, yes
>>
>>32584885

doesn't matter when it costs you millions to train one spec ops and the opposition just has to throw 30 illiterate niggers at him.
>>
>retards got killed
Are you surprised?
They had:
No plan
No training
No gear
No support
No medical anything. They fucked themselves. May as well shoot themselves and save the time and money.
2/10 bait thread
>>
>>32584949
Considering how many missions they successfully completed before they were killed I'd say the investment was well worth it.
>>
>>32584825
Its less how many guys you send and more where you send them.
>>
>>32584825
also Leon from Fast and Furious 1 and Ty Burrell from Modern Family who played the two Delta snipers
>>
>>32584841

>Nazi Germany was a good example of this

Not really, no. Their training was okay most of the war, America and the UK were at parity or better, and then late war the Nazis drafted children and old men to fight with little to no training at all.

Also

>implying Soviets weren't trained

The standing Soviet Red Army at the time of initial hostilities WAS trained and relatively well equipped. They had almost no officer corps to lead them early war, and when they were getting pushed back they went back to mosins and started throwing waves of poorly trained conscripts at the Germans. What really turned the tide outside Moscow was the arrival of Red Army troops from the Far East, who were well trained and equipped with SVT-40s and PPSh subguns.
>>
Except the point of special forces isn't that each individual soldier is 100 times better than an ordinary guy with a gun, the point is their capabilities are better.

Launching a raid to capture enemy leaders from the midst of a small army was risky, but plausibly possible because of their ability and training. These kinds of specialised units are not used for ordinary combat missions, but for missions that only those well trained can carry out. During the Iraq War occupation phase, groups like Task Force 88 carried out such missions day in day out to great effect https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Task_Force_88_(anti-terrorist_unit)
>>
>reading Pete Blaber's book on Delta

>>32584825
Those guys were all just Rangers I thought. Maybe not Jamie Lannister, IDK. The Deltas I remember were Eric Bana and Bill Fintchner, who actually were badass. Bana especially. And the moral was Rangers are gay Delta Force is much better
>>
>>32587072
Rangers were all envious of Delta, and also Delta boys were cocky and very disregarding of Rangers. Delta had comm units and could very effectively communicate between themselves whereas Rangers had to rely on signs and verbal communication.
>>
>>32587056

Remember the Deck of Cards? I remember it. I also remember by the time we actually completed the Deck of Cards that we had hundreds more names to hunt down. Fucking bullshit. I wasn't even a 1337 oper8or or anything and that's all the initial invasion was about, the only thing anyone fucking talked about was the goddamn Deck of Cards.

>mfw i realized
>>
>>32587081

Well it was mostly different. The deck of cards were mostly senior Ba'ath figures, whereas those task forces were going after insurgents. While there was some overlap, those high tempo raids were more about identifying and eliminating mid level commanders.
>>
>>32587090

Yeah I'm familiar with the differences, I'm just venting about all of this "know your foe" bullshit they push onto even low level footsloggers. Do they really think Pfc. Cletus from Mobile, AL is going to run across the deputy prime minister (I forget his name, but he was the 10 of hearts) of Saddam's Iraq? Probably not.
>>
>>32587107
Pvt tyrone found saddam.
>>
>>32587123

Kinda. I mean yeah he did kick the cover of the spider hole, but the intelligence was dine far above his head, and there were officers and NCOs on the ground running that operation literally right there.

It wasn't the soldier's efforts that led to Saddam being captured, he just happened to be autistic enough to want to kick things for no reason (as boots are wont to do)
>>

>The only moral was that war, war never changes.

This. Stalin basically purged all the higher ups in the military
>>

Which chapter is this? All I can think of is the deception warfare thing with their tanks and some retard thinking they could just drive 4 tanks and 16 dismounts into an enemy occupied city.

Pvt. Tyrone didn't find shit, Delta did all the work and served up the credit.

You wont beleive me but

>at lgs one day fingerfucking handguns
>start talking to a guy about calibers
>goes into the classic 45 stoppin powah speil
>immediately dismiss as fudd
>he goes on to tell me that he was a part of task force ranger and was in the convoy that went into mogadishu
>started to tell me how even after shooting the skinnies (he called them that lel) with 5.56 and 9mm from his barretta that would just shake it off due to the fact they were all high on qut (sp?)
>after standing there in disbeleif he showed me some scars on his arms and legs from shrapnel
>went on and told me the only 9mm he would never part with is his browning hi-power and proceeded to show me how to properly hold it and how to remove the mag release safety feature
>stood there and listened to him tell me about the battle and show me some handguns

Sometimes you really do meet some cool folks at gun stores. He said blackhawk down potrayed it very well.
>>

And they were surprised that the Black Hawk went down.
>>

I just watched this last night. Noticed a lot of them were using short barrel ARs. recall hearing about that this is the reason M4 was made because the "M16 is too long for urban combat" or some such.
>>
>>32587830
Nah I believe ya. My battalion CSM was a pv2 during Gothic serpent.
He stopped by while I was on staff duty one night and after doing what ever he needed to do, he chewed the fat with us.

Said it was one of the scariest times he went outside the wire, because of how piss poor planned it was, but that it taught him he needed to be crazier than hadj.

Infantry is for facing the horde
Special Forces are for completing specific tasks, like removing a shitskin General or working with Infantry to better their attack
>>
>>32587441

This. By the end they have no medical equipment, are out of ammo, starving and dehydrated. Supplies, people.

But I guess they were just expecting a one day op, get in get out.
>>
>>32584825
You get bumrushed by a bunch of chopper weildin negroes I bet you get your ass shot up aswell
>>
>>32584825

Yes.

Special operations are literal operations that are special. Not full frontal assault.

Bullets kill the same and SF operators are just soldiers who are good at playing "hard mode". They only have a marginal advantage.

Nigga you don't understand, Stan believed Trotsky and his supporters were planning a coup, so he had everyone in the military that wasn't a yes men (see: everyone that was even slightly competent) executed.

Look at Finland. That was all because the officer corp was gutted.

>Is there even a point of special forces

The purpose of having "special" units in your army is to ensure that you can face conditions and threats that conventional troops cannot.

The raid on Bin Laden's compound is a textbook example of the proper application and support of multiple special units.

The incident in Mogadishu happened because special units were deployed erroneously to tackle a problem that they could not solve.

Blame the White House for that leadership failure.
>>
>>32591234
Stalin literally had 75% of the professional officer corps killed a few years before the war and had them replaced by yes men in officers uniforms. Not that he listened to them anyways, that was one of the reasons the USSR took such heavy losses, the refusal of Stalin (and others to a smaller extent) to take heed of the warnings about the upcoming war by the intelligence services.

A really good book about he ineptness of both the Russians and the Germans is "Stalingrad: the fateful siege" by Antony Beevor. It opened by eyes to the sheer incompetence of both armies and their leaders. Not to mention it helped dispel myths and other wives tales about some of the fighting.
