Wouldn't even need something that can stop a .50 at high energy, just something that would stop .50 after it travels upwards thousands of feet, beyond the effective range of .50 (especially when it's fighting gravity.) 10,000ft is probably high enough to avoid any .50.

I fucking hated the Na'vi big time. Honestly, Avatars general plot was gayer than a george michael tribute act.

That whole super touchy feely green party flower power tree hugging stuff made me cringe big time and the Na'vi themselves just fucking wound me up, I mean looking at their stupid space kitten faces actually got me really angry, like id never get tired of just punching one in the head, id pretty much have to get up early because there isnt enough time in the day in which for me to punch one in the face.

Anyway when the dragon gunship shows up and blows away that pile of trash tree they love so much I audibly cheered and got some seriously weird looks in the cinema.

Consider the following. Do you know aerogel? You know, that super light material 99% of which is air. So basically a foam. Now, fill it with helium instead of air, make sure that it's fireproof tho, make a zeppelin out of it, and add some kevlar / polymer / generic ballistic protection on the outside. GL shooting it down. Tho it'd have to be fuckhuge to be able to carry stuff.
