In strict theory yes it can try, but the French version is kinda downgraded from the Italian one. It doesn't have the specific ammunition the 76mm uses to target fast missiles, so it's not "really" an anti-missile gun.

Thats why they have the Sadras on the French one, but thats not exactly designed for anti-missile work either, more for SHORAD against low level aircraft in the area. The French one relies solely on its Aster missiles for anti-missile defense.

They both have their things.

Daring class has much upgraded air to air capabilities from its AESA dual-side radar and the inherant advantages a more advanced radar brings, and also has better CIWS and more advanced propulsion systems. It's also larger for growth potential, bigger aviation space and has BMD already somewhat built in. All it needs is some software and the missile. It also has a bigger, longer reaching gun. (Depends on the ammo type the 76mm uses though)

Horizon for its part has some better ASW kit with torpedoes and I believe someone once said it also has a moderately all right towed sonar, even if not a full blown ASW one like CAPTAS 4.

So yes, the Daring does have several significant advantages that lead to it being a better ship in its ROLE, but it's not a "direct" upgrade in all areas. Horizon is still a very solid (and good looking) ship.
