greetings /k/,

I'm looking to buy my first gun.

I'm on a budget, so I'm looking for a handgun that I can buy under $400.

I need something with stopping power for home security, or in case anyone threatens me in my car. I would prefer something simple, nothing too flashy or geared out. Just an honest handgun with 9mm stopping power.
>>
>>32571640

How much damage per hit do you want it to do?
>>
>>32571703
Can I get a critical hit multiplier?
>>
>>32571731
not for 400$
>>
>>32571703
Uh, anywhere between 14 HP and 20 HP per shot, kek.
>>
>>32571703
I'm not trying to kill Swamp Thing, but if a 150 lb punk tried to jack me in my car or break into my house, it'd be nice to drop him with a head shot or round to the chest.
>>
>>32571640
Well... If it has to be a handgun, you're probably looking at a used handgun.

I just bought a SiG Pro 2022 for $499, but in CA, after FCS, DROS, and sales tax, and a safety cable (dumb CA laws, again) it cost me ~$613 dollars.

How strict is your budget?
>>
>>32571640

Police trade in glocks are your best bet. They sell for 320-370 depending on generation and caliber. They'll be somewhat beat up on the outside from holster wear but well maintained. As a positive they'll come with night sights.

Glock quality on the cheap.
>>
>>32572305
I was gonna mention that specifically. I found some Glock 22's at $379 a pop, but I wanted 9mm not .40 S&W.
>>
>>32571640
>under $400.

Up that to $450 and you could buy a base model CZ 75 online.

If you really only have $400 to spend then maybe go to a pawn shop and find a Ruger p89 or something. Those are simple, no frills handguns that are reliable and can be had for $200 to $300. You can then buy ammo, a spare magazine or two, and save the rest of your money.
>>
m1911 with Cobra grips.
>>
>>32572329
A family member of mine owns a P89, very respectable, nice trigger, a little fat in the frame, but nice.

Like buying a used Cadillac that's over a decade old.

Academy has S&W Shields for 379
>>
>>32572898
It's a nightmare senpai. Don't come here unless you have no other choice.
>>
>>32572937
I don't plan to. Come to Texas anon, we don't like the lefty transplants, but gun lovers are welcome anytime. Constitutional carry is a major debate point for the Texas House of Representatives this year, in fact.
>>
>>32571640
Read the sticky. You have very narrow constraints and are discounting things like the .40 trade in glocks. You use terms like stopping power then say you want 9mm. If you dont like the suggestions then save more money. Or go get a hi point off the street.
>>
>>32572757

>Did you use unnecessary deadly force?

I used everything I had.
>>
>>32572981
I hate that being from California, no matter what, will make me stand out, and make people despise me. I didn't ask to be born here...
>>32573029
Real talk senpai, he should just go get a 500 and a Surefire and some buckshot. Pistols are great, but shotguns are life.
>>
>>32572311
Don't believe the hype, 40 S&W is a perfectly serviceable caliber.
>>
>>32573055
Only assholes care about that man. If you want to work hard, be free and get away from the insanity then you already have more in common with the people here than some resident Texans. Like I said, the Lefty transplants are despised, but the people here are very welcoming to those who share similar values.
>>
>>32573157
It would be a big move. I'm hoping I can get a job that will give me an exemption from CA gun laws if you catch my drift. But even then, I'll move anywhere if the pay is good.
>>32573120
Never said it wasn't senpai. Just that I preferred the 9mm over it, I liked how the 2022 was a little more compact too, compared to the 22, which is pretty much the only agency used Glocks in this area (most agencies mandate .40 or above).

I really don't see why 9mm 135gr JHP doesn't get the job done as well as the .40 S&W of the same weight and bullet type. I'll take an even more manageable recoil and a few extra bullets instead.

I'm tired, and having a hard time following the thread as a result. If the OP is from Cali his options only fall inside of that nonsense roster too. Any ways the newest Canik TP9 (The SF model) seems like a real sweetheart for just a hair over your 400.00 window. Don't forget with any gun purchase you're going to want to realize that you're probably going to have to work in expensive taxes, shipping, FFL fees and possibly worse if you leave in a subject state vs a citizen state. Check any number of videos on the TP9 pistols. All have good reviews, but the SF seems to be the most loved.

Sccy 9mm might be just what you want, but remember you need: gun, range time, training class, ammo, magazines, holster, box and lock, cleaning kit, registration/CCW class and fee.
>>
I live in Florida. If it exists and a civilian can own it, I imagine I can buy it without heavy taxation or fees.

I'm not looking for a 9mm exclusively, but will not go beneath a 9mm. That should have been better clarified.

>>32573029
I never said anything negative about any of the suggestions in this thread. What are you even talking about?

Get a Hipoint C9, and $250 worth of ammunition. Git gud.

>yes
Just lurk pawn shops and classifieds. Or if you want new, get a Keltec or Ruger single stack 9mm

I heard that song before I watched Cobra for the first time. Even the damn car chase scene makes me think about Nightforce.

Power Glove has some great tracks. They're why I got into synthwave in the first place.

i've shot bersa thunder pros, m9s, glocks, and springfields in the $400 or less range

springfield xds-9 was my favorite, even though it hurts the hands to shoot sometimes but it gets the job done as CCW goes and killing jamal and his friends. stock sights are also fiber optic i think so no need for worrying about buying a flashlight or night sights during dark hours.
