The US Government took out a loan from the Federal Reserve of 1 dollar. The government does this to allow commerce to occur at all and to invest the dollars it takes out into the infrastructure of the country. That's not just the roads and bridges, but also the people of the country. It does this as an investment and the government has always gotten good returns on its investments. We have never missed a payment on our debts. The only time we have ever gotten close was because Congress were being little fucbois and not doing their fucking jobs.

But that doesn't answer WHY the debt keeps going up. Imagine you have a factory. You make 100 dollars in profit a month. If you take out a loan for 1000 dollars your factory can make 300 dollars a month. It will only take you 5 months to pay off the loan while still taking home 100 bucks. That's a no brainer. That is what the US government is doing. Taking out more and more loans to fund more and more services.
