Can anyone clarify how much damage this would really do?
>>

If it nicks your axillary artery, you're dead in seconds
>>
There are bones, nerves, arteries in your shoulder you need to have for your arm to work.

Bullets smash bones, arm doesn't work.
Bullets cut nerves, arm doesn't work
Bullets cut arteries, bleed out die, also arm doesn't work.

kinda big deal.
>>
>>32560298
It's a piece of wood with a metal tip piercing your body. It's a pretty big fucking deal.
>>

Doesn't he kill a few more before being shot twice center mass again?
In the books this scene doesn't even happen, Aragon shows up and a dying Boromir is just surrounded by the corpses of shitloads of orcs
>>
Looks like may of hit his collar none. Which would probably shatter it. So I say it'd probably be pretty painful and put a normal man out of the fight.

Assuming they went through his chain because super orc strength and bows then I think it's fairly conceivable that a man that had just been shot by arrows 3 times after being fatigued from fighting off many attackers would be incapable of putting up much more of a fight

Back before antibiotics existed, any injury was a big deal. Just cutting your finger with a knife could lead to death by infection.
>>

It could, but much like today not every little cut gets infected, and not every infection kills people dead, also contrary to popular belief, people throughout history weren't just unwashed scum covered in shit, just pointing that out

Bitches; the lot of you.
I don't use meds on half of the injuries I get. Scrapes if they're more than an inch wide, and cuts if it's deep enough for the blood to actually run; not just pool up around the mark. Otherwise, I just suck it clean atm and keep an eye on it. Maybe a half-dozen times have I ever had to open it back up to put something in bc it started looking red, and not once did any of those instances make me ill.

>>32560298
Lungs extend up under the collar bone.

You do not have a functional arm with a damaged rotator cuff, broken collar bone, or broken scapula.

You have the brachial artery, brachiocephalic trunk, and brachial nerve all in that general area.
>>
>>32561595
He wasn't down yet so why does the 3rd one mysteriously fuck him over? No heart/head shot, just body shots that he was able to withstand.

>>32560298
Look at this anatomical diagram, OP.

Boromir got shot right where the trapezius, deltoid, and pectoral muscles meet, and it likely broke the collar bone underneath the muscle. Aside from the obvious pain of the injury, the arrow would have pretty much rendered his arm immobile.

No matter how badass you are, there's no way you can continue to fight a numerically superior enemy in hand to hand combat under those circumstances.

>first arrow fucks the shoulder, potentially puncturing the tip of the lung and creating a sucking chest wound
>second arrow very solidly in lower lung
>third arrow in liver, potentially also perforating the diaphragm
The second and third arrows were both going to be eventually fatal individually, when coupled with the first hit and the general extreme battle fatigue he was pretty well gassed.
>>
>>32560385
>>32561674
Gut Shots, while not immediately Lethal, air incredibly painful. This guy is probably exhausted fighting, and is now dealing with the physical pain of three fucking arrows being inside him, as well as all the emotional pain of failing the fellowship and ttrying to take the ring.
>>
>>32561674
>No heart/head shot, just body shots that he was able to withstand.
You do realize that all your other organs are also vital, and that any deep penetrating wound to the torso can be fatal, right?

It might not kill you instantly, but you'll bleed out pretty quickly.
>>
>>32561682
Basically, he had at least seven arrows in him and killed 20 orcs. The last few he killed with a broken sword. Also Sean Bean was not the best choice for the role. Boromir was a basically Arnold Schwartzenigger in mail in the book.
>>
>>32560760
And it must be noted that that "bathe rarely" thing was mostly a central european/British thing. Scandanavians were notably fastidious, to where it's notable that the stuff they used to prevent lice also tended to bleach their hair, and a comb was a prized piece of a warrior's kit. And being clean, handsome, and well-groomed paid off with English women.
>>
>>32561776
I think Bean was perfect, he made the character seem human, which is what Borormir was made to represent.

Well, as others has said several things pass near the shoulder and well depending were he was hit, and the form of the arrow, it could have hit the lat and post cord of the braquial nexus, from c6 to c8 could have been cut, a little lower the axillary artery could have been nicked, and remember the axillary art comes from the subclavian art and that one comes from the heart almost directly, so a damage to that area can be easly lethal

So /k/, did Boromir's final act of heroism redeem his last moment of weakness?

Also, was he right?

I mean yeah, Frodo and Sam got the job done, but only just, and mostly by sheer luck.

Wouldn't it have been the better path to use the ring to make Gondor great again then mount a campaign against Mordor? Surely between Aragorn/Faramir/Boromir, they'd have enough time to give Sauron a run for his money before it corrupted them all.

Absolutely fantastic, and don't forget Bloodborne or Demon Souls even.

As for being difficult, they really aren't. They're unforgiving, and you die a lot, but that's about it. The reason people think they're difficult is because tards played DS1, took the two paths you're not supposed to yet, and went "holy shit this game is impossible" without taking five minutes to look around before giving up. Also because people didn't realize you need to read EVERY SINGLE ITEM you pick up, so a lot of people ran into progression issues because they didn't see X item was the key to progression (often literally).

Plus Blighttown
>Fuck Blighttown
>>
>>32565169
His final acts showed that his plan was flawed in the exact way Gandalf said it would be

I can understand the need to remove certain things in the movie version. I get it, I really do. What boggles my mind is why those idiots felt compelled to add in buckets of unnecessary garbage that was never in the book. If they hadn't added in so much random bullshit, they could have PROPERLY done the introduction to Beorn, PROPERLY shown just how horrifying Mirkwood was, and so forth, and done it all in two movies to boot. The Battle of the Five Armies could have been a satisfying conclusion to the second film instead of a two-hour fight scene of pure misery.

>So /k/, did Boromir's final act of heroism redeem his last moment of weakness?

No. In some respects, it may be considered the easy way out. He didn't have to put in the time and work to regain the trust that he'd broken. However, his death was a necessary plot device to clear the way for Faramir to ascend to the Stewardship. This becomes important when Aragorn's rightful claims to the various thrones become apparent. Boromir would have relinquished the Stewardship reluctantly, and his continued presence would have served as a focal point and catalyst for a civil war.

Faramir, being more accustomed to the second fiddle role, was a much better choice as the final Steward. Less risky.

>Wouldn't it have been the better path to use the ring to make Gondor great again then mount a campaign against Mordor?

That was one of the contingencies in Sauron's game plan. If they'd tried that, Sauron would have wound up as the overlord of Gondor within 2 generations. He was the master of deep planning and the long game. The only reason he lost in the end was that he failed to account for the chaotic effect that the hobbits would have on his plan. Individually weak and insignificant, they acted as a potent force multiplier when integrated into the forces of the West.
