Please explain why all the decent optics around the $200-$300 pricepoint require scope rings. What's the point of scope rings when you can just mount an optic directly to the pic rail system, thus eliminating extra parts and possibility to mess something up. Seems so much simpler for optics to just have a pic rail formed at the base of the optic unit.

So why is this a thing? Can somebody suggest some 3x or 4x optics (variable or fixed) that don't require scope rings?

They are the exact opposite. Though if you find an equivalent Vortex, go with them because of the warranty.

You'll generally only find PA stuff online, from them directly and couple other online retailers like Aim Surplus.

If you want a fix mag prism scope, look at the Vortex Spitfire 3x.

They are functional shit. Where brands like truglo are absolute, barely functional shit that breaks all the time.

I have a PA red dot that has unreliable MOA adjustments, shit battery life, crappy lenses and shit-tier brightness options. That being said it holds zero (once you find it) and does not die. It is functional shit.

For complete poorfags, PA is a lifesaver for them wanting to dip into dots and potentially optics. For slightly less poorfags Vortex provides a small step up for dots and a pretty substantial step up for magnified stuff.

For everyone else, just spend the money on the widely approved brands, they are popular and widely approved for a reason.

Prob gonna drop some cash into a t-2 and complete my ar build

It's older and was around before those were out. They have made improvements to their micro, especially in battery life. Still "shit," just not complete shit like other budget dots.

The thing has survived 2 years on a 12ga magnum at this point, it has earned my respect.

Good dots cost what they do for a reason, let's not turn this into a "just as good" argument for everyone's sake.

I do. The scope did not work for my needs. I will hunt hogs from a distance for a while, then get up and stalk. I go from shooting at 100 yards to inside of 25 in the same night with the same gun.

If you don't need both, you may consider a scope to be the better option. If you haven't already, as far as scopes go, look at the Strike Eagle.

No one is doing that, I just wanted to point out that your review of "the PA red dot" is misleading because the MD-ADS is the only one anybody recommends around here and is miles ahead in quality of any other dot they sell.
