I'm talking about the ass end of the receiver, the dumb bit that just sticks out like your moms nipples in minnesota

I disagree.
>>
>>32539311
Rifle is fine. So how would you fix it? Do you understand how the platform operates?
>>
>>32539351
>angle cut the back end of the carrier/charging handle a little bit
>ak slant the dust cover and extend the front and top to cover the new gap made when the carrier is forward
>back end of the recoil spring guide rod now has a little hollowed out tab extending down to interface with the retaining pin

easy aesthetic achieved with nothing more than a custom guide rod half and dustcover
>>
>>32539212
This is unironically my favorite part of my SKS. It's just so distinctive and funny looking, it makes the gun cute.
>>
>>32539489
So just make it look like a Saiga? Why not just get the saiga

the metal buttocks gives the SKS a distinctive look, a sort of muscularity and robustness

I mean they're extra parts that dont permanently fuck the gun in any way. my line of thinking is that one could somehow stabilize the dustcover for optics or to be better suited to the tech-sights.

because SKS has full wood stock and integral bayonet, very pretty

This. The carrier spring reacts against the back of the dust cover. Which is why it is flat like that. Modifying that would change the direction of the force and prevent the action from cycling.

You're a stupid fucking nigger, that's for sure.
But in the case of your shortened barrel length, The chinks imported a 16 inch SKS in the 90s, most cal it a paratrooper, or a carbine. As for your sight mount, some of the same rifles came with a mount on the left side of the receiver bellow where the dust cover would be.
But your ass sure as shit don't deserve to own one because you could not possibly appreciate them in their natural form anyways.

Here. shitty MS Paint crop from some parts from a teardown.

This is the dust cover and the carrier spring assembly from the inside and upside down.

As you can see the back of the dust cover is thick AF because the carrier spring pushes against it.

It's not an aesthetic feature. It's part of the way the gun is engineered.
>>
^ I should also mention that's one of the things that makes the SKS one of the sexiest guns IMHO.

It has no aesthetic features. Literally everything on the gun is the way it is for engineering purposes. It just happened to look good in the process.

Rifle is fine.
>>32539311
This is hideous.
>>
>>32540639
The same with the SVT-40, the dustcover has a square profile.
I wonder if pressing the thumb of your shooting hand against the back of the dustcover helps with recoil control. In theory your thumb acts as a spring or recoil buffer of sorts.

Are SKS's becoming an irrelevant meme? Now it seems the cheapest they go for is ~$400, and food is ~25c/round. Entry-level prebuilt AR-15s start at $500, and 5.56 also costs ~25c/round, but now you actually have detachable mags and parts accessibility. If you still wanted to use 7.62x39 out of Russian fetishization, entry-level AKM clones eating the same food start at ~$600.

SKS's might have made more sense three or four years ago when they were $300 and milsurp ammo was cheap, but now 7.62x39 and 5.56 NATO cost exactly the same. I can honestly only justify buying one if you're a /k/omrade living in an AWB state. Even the mag limits aren't a big deal, because you'd be stuck with the same 10 round limit in an SKS anyways.
>>
>>32543563
I still have an sks because it's history and cool. It's also another rifle to have in the arsenal. It can still get the job done despite the capacity limits. Stop over thinking this...If you want one go buy one and enjoy it. Fuck man.

Source: Bubba fudd gun shop I frequent because I'm a cuck with online buying
>>
>>32542291
You know there's a gunshop near me that sells these to poor fuckers stupid enough to buy them, I knew a guy who thought it was a 7.62x39mm and I had to explain to him it was a 7.62x45mm and that the shop had no ammo for it.

funny how they want to sell a gun they have no ammo for. I mean sure, collect it. But unless its a re-chamber or you can reload your own rounds, it's practically worthless. You can get ammo for a nagant or a C96... but you just can't for a VZ52. I mean I heard shit about being able to find a rare listing online or maybe in a gun show... but if I can't stockpile 100 rounds for it and have the ability to buy more... huge turn off.

Now the nugget has also gone the way of the SKS and there is no more dirt cheap surplus rifle.

Rifle is fine.

Just got my 4th in the mail. Actually my nicest one. Chinese made Type 56. Capitalist pig sticker on the end. Non refurb. Great shape . Action smooth as silk, no corrosion or damage anywhere on the rifle. Wood stock feels nicer than my Soviet refurbs and hardwoods. Whole rifle tighter over all.

LOL wtf did you bro?? The "arms" of the techsight are supposed to be level with the crack between the dustcover and the receiver. This makes the rear base of the techsight parallel with the rear of the dustcover. You should only be able to fit like an index card between the sight and the dust cover if it is installed correctly.

Literally what in the flying fuck am I even looking at like how did you fuck up that bad?? How do you even shoot that thing?!
