Dumb /m/ posters.

Never

Oh hell yes
>>
>>32536147
>logistics
meh
bipedal exo-suit style robots are needlessly complex
what do you need legs for?
and why bother designing around a human pilot instead of a remote control system or, far more plausibly, an automated system
>>
>>32536044
Kinda redundant with power armor. I mean, unless you intend to out tank a tank you're basically working the urban and broken terrain niche and powered armor has that covered.
>>
I'd like to see more robotic augmentations
>>
>>32536239
>this
currently the US Air force/ Navy is trying to phase out human combat pilots so if they do create combat mechs they are going to tailor them towards being remotely controlled
>>
>>32536239
Anybody who knows a little about cyber security knows not to trust drones at that kind of scale.
>>
>>32536268
ok but... powered armor doesn't exist and your whole post seems to hinge on the idea that it does.
>>
>>32536096
>Not wanting your own gundam

What do you even live for?
>>
>>32538807
Yes it does you dumb new

>>What is DARPA
>>
>>32536268
things like this come before power armor
>>
>>32538807
But it does. Powered armor as a concept is literally the HULC or Sarcos XO with rifle plates strapped on. The only reason it hasn't been fielded yet is power limitations, which are going to be a far bigger issue for Mechs that it will be for any exoskeleton.
>>
>>32539407
I live so that I might yet drive a BTR over an alien corpse.
>>
>>32536239

Yeah. What's this thing got on a forklift?
>>
>>32536809
This.
>>
>>32536044
Sitting in a mech like a car is dumb...wake me when they have neuro link ups and the mech is controlled by your full body movement.
>>
PROTOCOL 1:LINK WITH A PILOT

Call me in about 200 years and we'll see. Gotta start somewhere though.

The next logical step towards subjugating the human species. Like all war mechanisms, the innocent populations will suffer. How thoughtfull of our leaders.

Nigger drones are the future. You can send a fucking murder of drones to airlift any kind of supplies you could possibly want for a fraction of the price and being far faster and difficult to intercept.
>>
>>32544056
But what if someone else gets the keys to the drones?
>>
>>32544066
If hacking gets that bad we will begin printing custom circuit boards that are physically loaded into the drones with instructions that cannot be overwritten.
>>
>>32544066
Maybe you should stop taking your info from calladoody games.
>>
Now just give it two gatling guns on the head, a flamethrower penis and a bunch of missiles and call it Sahelanthropus

I think they should add a ratchet system to their now hydraulic-only joints, to keep things stable when not moving and save a lot of power

At the very end of the credits, Cooper's helmet flashes morse code for "Jack". Probably something to do with the neutral link.

Mechs in real life is one of the most illogical and unnecessary things. There is nothing a mech can do that something else can't do better and the tradeoffs are insane. We've talked about this alot on /m/
>>
>>32544398
>We've talked about this alot on /m/

And yet they are all like "OMG gundam is real now"
>>
>>32542834
>a jet that can walk

Why?
>>
>>32536268
power armor and mecha differ only in size.
>>
>>32544944
Not true. Powered armor is basically a self-supporting article of clothing, a mech is a vehicle you drive. One is augmenting the user, the other is carrying it as passenger.
>>
Too many cons. No reason to make a mech for military purposes.
>>
>>32536044
>not without a power source that's portable enough.

don't tell me they can't put a petrol generator on that thing.
>>
>Vehicular Legged locomotion and what it imply (variable geometry) would change warfare.

DARPA should hire him.
>>
>>32536044

>>
>>32536044
Mechs won't be feasible until computers are fast enough to do all the bullshit your brain does for your legs. The number one hurdle to automated bipedal movement right now is the number of calculations required for it, and also terrain scanning.

Will mechs be only viable for urban combat and rocky terrain situations?

I rather see Fuchikoma's in the battlefield.
>>
>>32545629
What's the best power source for a big walking bot like that ? Fuel cells ? Batteries ? A small turbine ?
>>
>>32546874
Compact fusion reactor or wireless power transfer from an external source, preferably satellite.
>>
>>32546534
If the terrain gets so bad that tanks can't get through, one might just send helicopters.

I killed it in just a few seconds by just slowly driving backward and shooting it in a BTR and i though: wow this is actually the most technically accurate depiction of mech vs armor I've ever experienced.
