Are these bullets worth the hype?

I mean for shooting at people, for self defense obviously.

Why exactly do people want 16+ inches of penetration when the average male chest is probably 8 inches thick at the most?
>>

I feel like there's a dick joke hidden in here somewhere.

What is:

>Bone

---------Vitals are here------
>More bone
>More muscle
>More skin
>>
>>32528493
I doubt it. The geometry of the round doesn't lend well to separation and copper is less dense than lead so you're penetration and accuracy will be poor. Copper is also tougher than lead so it'll probably won't fragment properly.

The design does seem to have good angle normalization so a grazing it would do a bit more damage.
>>
Here's your (You)
>>
>>32528594
Because the first 4" of gel represents skin, and then you add clothes, and then the pretty good chance you hit a rib. You want more than the bare minimum of penetration to protect your life.
>>
>>32528630
Yes, but how would all of that reduce 16 inches of penetration to almost nothing? And how would all of that stop a RIP bullet from fucking someone's shit up?

See: >>32528672

Ballistics gel is not a 1:1 comparison of a human target. Ballistics gel isn't meant to be consistent with humans, it's just used as a comparative tool.

We know that it's a minimum 12" in gel to be effective at getting to important shit in the body. We know that if it goes through 24" of gel it'll go right through a human body.

Also remember, the most commonly shot body part is the hand/arms; people tend to focus on the weapons the enemy is holding, so now the round has to go through the arm before fucking you up.

But, mostly, it's because ballistis gel has fuckall to do with the human body.

Did you bother to read the part where it's extremely disputed?

Did you bother to see the talk page that outright states the entire article needs a rewrite to meet standards?

Did you bother to read anything besides Wikipedia?

Hydrostatic shock occurs in beer cans, not bodies.

Do (You) seriously believe that a bullet just does straight line penetration without moving guts and tissue out of the way?

shock and/or blood pressure loss with related but non main cause brain damage

slamming their head into the pavement after being shot in the chest
>>
>>32528839
No, physics works just the same. The human body has empty space for the sole purpose of equalizing pressure, or we'd have gone extinct long ago.

You don't get shot through the stomach and magically have a lung explode because LOLFLUIDPRESSURE, for example, not to mention the large pressure venting hole you just introduced to the otherwise closed system. There's arguments backed up with evidence in the very article you linked AGAINST such things occurring.

>>32528872
No, which is why wound channels are a thing. Hydrostatic shock is the notion that getting shot in the leg will make your brain asplode.

>>32528844
Because blood loss has a tendency to produce brain damage.
>>
>>32528872
It's similar to what you see in ballistics gel; the body and just about everything in it, besides bone, is fairly elastic. What isn't destroyed that's pushed away snaps back into place; muscles, tissue and the like.

What are you on about

Pic related is hydrostatic shock
>>
>>32528493
Good job explaining your use of "superlethal fragmenting ammo" in court.
>>
>>32528949
No it isn't.

Hydrostatic shock is the theory that projectiles cause remote injury in places otherwise unaffected by the projectile.

It's the opening two lines in the wikipedia article (you) linked.
>>
>>32528594
Think about having to shoot someone from the side, or in a situation where you are struggling for control of weapon, where they are on you holding muzzle of your gun you would want it to penetrate more than 8".

>produce physical shock to near by areas
Its the force of the bullet causing more damage to nearby areas than just making a hole.
>>
>>32529036
No, that's called cavitation.

>Making a hole
Impact, in the medical field, including the damage it does as it travels through.

Cavitation mostly looks nastier than it is. Cavitation like you see in gel doesn't really have the same effect on a human target; it's a secondary means of wounding.

Rounds that tumble and jarr are more effective at destroying tissue because they tumble and jar, for instance.

>>
>>32529739
FPS Russia said that #4 bird shot is great for self defense because of how many holes it made in a paper target.

I think he says these things just to make people mad.
>>
>>32528587
Underrated
>>
>>32529132

Adding to this, it is possible for the temporary wound channel caused by rounds to inflict serious injury, but the temporary wound channel has to be big enough and cavitation violent enough to overcome the elasticity of the tissue that is being malformed, otherwise the tissue will go back to the way it was.

It's damn near impossible to get that out of pistol rounds, and difficult to get that from intermediate rounds at a significant distance.

One of those rounds would do almost no damage to a naked human, and the other would most likely fail to break the skin if the target were to be wearing a heavy jacket.

You're a shitty troll though, but someone may actually want the question answered.
