Well I admit I was pretty lucky with it. My pops got it from some old man who was the first owner before I was born. According to him it was mostly kept in the closet and had no more than a couple boxes through it when my dad got hold of her. I know my dad's taken a good handful of deer with her and I've taken a few as well including my first. I try not to abuse her of course but I don't believe in safe queens either and I wasn't kidding when I said she's been an invaluable walking stick on multiple occasions running brush uphill. I should get a picture of the buttplate for you; it's easily the most visibly worn part as a result.

45LC cases are thin. on the off chance they don't flow/split, they will be un-reloadable afterwards. trying to beat 44 mag with 45LC is dumb. you can trim Casull cases, but the cost is retarded.

I never said a modern firearm weren't capable, retard.
your first fucking clue would be that I mentioned trimming down 454 Casull brass, but said that wasn't cost effective vs 44 mag.

the limitation is in how thin 45LC brass is.

well kid, when you finally figure out the mystery loads you have, let me know.

what it sounds like is that you have a friend's dad loading a bit shy of max 44 mag loads, in a 45LC. you're not surpassing 44mag, and destroying the 45LC brass. don't even bother picking it up.

I had actually considered just skipping 44mag and going with a lever 454 Cas/ but i am also trying to keep the rifle and any aftermarket stuff (because action smoothing and large loops are the sex) i need done to it under $1-1,200. Do you have any firsthand experience with 454 levers?

Side notes.

I have a 45colt henry as well as a 45-70, im good on muh stoppin power and my cowboy cartridges as all that is secondary.

I suppose i should have just outright asked if the Rossi 92 is reliable enough to handle modern hunting loads long term with a high round count of hand loads in-between or if i should go with the "more proven" (read ; older) names in the game.

45 Colt is nice and it is powerful but im probably not going to take it backpacking with me, simple as that. ( I do now because no 44 and LeHigh but that's not the issue)
>>
>>32529786
>Shit man google specifics for proof it can exceed magnum classes.
1) quantify "magnum classes"
2) you get why .454 Casull was invented, right? I was designed to beat .44 Mag, so it had to strengthen the 45LC case, and switched to a rifle cup'd primer to do so.

you're fighting something that was resolved in 1957....

>>
>>32528639
How do you like your marlin?
>>
>>32529866
if you already have a .45LC and a 45-70, I don't see any reason to change. 45-70 uses a lot more powder than .454 Casull, but I figure this is a hunting rifle anyways. unless you have some sick Freedom Arms revolver to pair with it, you sound good to go for thick brush hunting
>>
>>32529906
Did you even try to google what I said? 44 magnum has better factory ammunition, 45 colt has better handloaded rounds. You can't compare something used mainly in rifles to a pistol round.
>>
>>32529906
45 colt and 44 magnum have very similar if not the same brass. A old tale created by fudds. The 45 colt has looser cut chambers. That is why they split, not typically due to handloading unless rediculously powerful trying to match hot 454. I've even heard 45 colt reaching light 454 powers.

I really want to come up with a valid reason to combat that logic but i dont have one as thats why i originally got the 45-70 / 45 colt hunting/plinking combo going in the first place.

But there is a part of me that wants one gun that is capable for those times when i just want to spend an extended period of time outside and let my guard down enough to think i wont be attacked by bears but still have enough firepower for defense against lets say mountain lion or crazed venison. (but mainly for trying to shoot steel out past 300 and cowboy stuff)
>>

Because men used to be men
>>
>>32530238
I mean, I expected to see some faggotry like this. It is 4chin after all. But really? I'm never prepared for it.
>>
>>32530206
if you want to sell of your current 45-70/.45LC combo, and buy a .454 combo, you aren't going to hear an argument from me. it's going to take an investment of cash, and take a while to find the optimum load that works in both. that's not a big a deal for most gun fags. you then have a ridiculously awesome hunting combo.

if you like projects, go for it. I think projects are the best part of this hobby. my initial answer was just being poor-fag practical.

only draw-back is that your rifle is using pistol bullets. same drawback as .444 Marlin. at close rifle range, the velocity might blow the bullet up on a bear's forehead. not saying it's going to happen, but pistol bullets aren't happy at that velocity
>>
>>32530420
True but that's why i would maintain a box of LeHigh.

All in all i see what you're getting at and probably should just stop getting wide eyed at a new potential project and use the 45-70 as a woods gun / hunting rifle as i originally intended.

<_< which means my gaze immediately turns to blasphemy in trying to recreate a DeLisle Carbine with a lever action.

The good- i have an actual (i believe made in 1894) winchester in 25-35, with a sub 10,000 seriál number. (Close to 9700)
Its a family heirloom-
The bad, Its lightly rusted, though I fo try to keep it oiled to prevent corrosion, it also (trigger warning) has a slightly cracked stock and possibly bent barrel... Dad won't tell me much about it, but it seems like someone got smacked with it once upon a time.
I'd like to fix it or return it to a functional state (I dream of shooting it) but am unsure how to do this without totally cucking it.
Ginsmith to check the barrel? Try to refinish/glue stock? Honestly I'm outta my league

That part is true though, you can't hotrod .45ACP even close to the ways you can hotrod 9mm Luger or even .40S&W, standard .45ACP brass isn't strong enough (there's of course also the concern of chamber support, but that's a bit separate).

That's the entire point with the .45 Super cartridge, it has the exact same dimensions as .45ACP but the brass is way stronger so you can actually load it WAY hotter than you ever can .45ACP, making use of the spacious capacity of the case (.45 Auto Rim can be used this way too, I hear).

What I'm thinking is that the guy is confusing .45ACP brass with .45 Long Colt in what he said.

1982 Marlin 336. I'm thinking about replacing the trigger with a brass one, and adding a glove lever.

I use it for CAS and general fucking around.

Quite in love with it really.

FUCK NO! I looked for a very long time for this gun. Old jewish man sold it to me. He said his father bought it new for a hunting trip and he shot that one time and then about once a decade after. The scuffs on the mid part of the stock are real that weird thing on the fore grip is just light. He was a foul hunter and he needed to clean out some room in his safe for more 10k dollar shotguns. Sweet collection. this and ~60 rounds, 700 bucks. Only problem is I need a cheaper one to actually shoot lol.

no, you're just an idiot...
pic related. it's a cross section of a 44 Mag (left) and a .45 LC. the 44 Mag is substantially thicker in the web and the base. THIS is why hotrodding 45LC trashes the case, and why loading to 44 Mag pressures are a bad idea.
>>
Henry .22 lever action is my favorite 22. Cycles shorts, long, and lR so its a great platform for CB rounds.

Bull fucking shit.

The .44 Mag case is modern. The .45 colt case you're showing is an ancient, pre-WWII "balloon head" case.

John Taffin and the .45 Colt: http://www.sixguns.com/tests/tt45lc.htm
>>
>>32536433
In identical guns:
The .45 colt can throw a heavier, larger bullet at the same pressure as the .44 magnum. The .45 Colt is always at an advantage here. The only edge that .44 magnum will have is way downrange.

wtf did you find a 94 for 350 mapleydoo's? I'd kill for that. Also does your name start with a B? You type like my friend who has that same setup.

>45 colt is the round that won the west
You misspelled 44-40. The Winchester 1873 was the rifle that won the west, and wasn't chambered in 45 Colt. Colt was basically forced to offer the SAA in 44-40, or lose market share. People wanted a side arm in the same caliber as their rifle. The military and maybe some police like Bat Masterson were about the only people using .45 Colt back then.
>>
>>32542001
Because everyone carried colt single actions on them, not rifles. That is why 45 colt won the west, fuck everyone says the colt won it
>>
>>32541348
What are you trying to accomplish? What point are you making?
>>
>>32541339
Out of the box they're rough actions (if lever guns) and dirty (revolvers) a bit of TLC and they are fine, polish the action and you have a cheap rifle that is a fuckin laser beam
>>
>>32542034
Why should I have to do shit that should've been done at the factory to get a good rifle?
>>
>>32542198
Because them polishing and smoothing out things would require lots of hand finishing, which would put the guns into a higher price point.
So they just CNC the shit, slap it together and rely on the consumer actually using the gun to improve the action.

>>
>>32545678
I know what you meant, but the skinners give the same functionality without looking out of place like a Daniel defense rear would, or the way LPA ghost rings already do. Plus you could always opt for a tang sight or keep the stock sight, both or which can fold out of the way and won't need a ten kinds of bullshit to be same plane
