Looking to get my first revolver, /k/ I want something in .357 and under $500.

Any recs?

Under 500 I'd say a used Ruger GP 100, a new SP 100, or an LCR .357. Is this going to be a carry piece?

Probably should just get a glokc if you're a beginner. Maybe for 500 dollars you could find a yused glock but otherwise, Nah. .357 magnum is way too powerful for you right now, wait until you have more weapons skill, learn from an instructor or family member how to use your new glock
are you going to carry this gun

.357 is shit. Best revolver cartridge is the .38 Special. It served police faithfully from 1899 until the 1990s.

Just get a Model 10 like all the police departments did. No reason for .357 Mag, it's not like you'll really need it.
>>
>>32510959
a.357 can shoot .38 m8
>>
>>32511091
Yes, but a Model 10 is half the price and the same quality as a Model 19.

Don't get me wrong I want my grandpas model 19, and get a solid 10/10 stiffy every time I get to shoot it, but for 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of one I got a Model 10.
>>
>>32511469
Model 13 is the model 10 but in .357. Learn what the fuck you're talking about.

And they cost 350-400.
>>
>>32510949
Durrrrr get glock fag.
>>
>>32511091
That's not the point, .357 Mag is an unnecessary revolver cartridge for practical use compared to .38 Special
>>
>>32513117
How do you know what OP intends to use the revolver for? The faggot won't answer this question.
>>
>>32512907

>>
>>32512907
glocks are actually the best gun for any beginner of any age please do not make fun of glocks they are my favorite gun

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

No, I think the AK47 would fit that criteria. Of all the weapons in the vast soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947. More commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It's the world's most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9 pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It'll shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people's greatest export. After that comes vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars.

Not that guy, but where the hell are you finding Model 13s at that price? I've never seen one for that price on Gunbroker, Armslist, or in real life, and believe me--I've been looking.

>>32510959
Yeah, people are obsessed with magnum calibers alright. On the other hand, even quality .38 special revolvers are nowhere near as cheap as they once were. Even something as a basic as a Model 10 is likely going to run you over $300 after all taxes and fees unless you either luck out or buy one that's either worn out or terrible cosmetically.

I like my GP100 a lot.

It kicks pretty good for being only .357 magnum. I think the wood grips transfer more energy to your hand than the stock rubber ones.

Really fun gun to shoot.

Saving your money unless you intend this to be your beater gun.

A model 627 is worth saving for US An example

Wat

I own and carry a glock 19 (9mm) and this advice is stupid
>>
>>32518223

*is an example

I don't know how I made that typo. GP100 is a pretty decent gun if you have to keep cost low but other anons are right on a glock 17 or preferably glock 19 (better do all size instead of just a home defense gun) being the best handgun for a beginner. If you want a 357 revolver get it though, theyre still easy to learn. Just dont get a snub nose and you should look for something with adjustable sights (not fixed sights) since some will come from the factory not sighted in properly.

Also

Yes you can shoot a 38 special out of a 357

Revolvers being more reliable than a modern automatic pistol of the same msrp price is a fudd myth

A 9mm out of a 2 inch barrel is nearly as powerful as a 357 out of a 2 inch barrel (357 gets much more powerful with just a few extra inches of barrel length than 9mm does though, ideally get 4-6 inches as it's the most practical) so seriously don't buy a snub nose
>>
>>32518223
Model 27s are beautiful no doubt, but overkill unless you want eight shots of 357, a 686+ gets you most of the way there, being slightly smaller and lighter, and easier to find holsters.
>>
If you can find a used Ruger Security Six or Service Six it's basically a proto GP-100. Very solid engineering and I still see them hovering in the ~$500 range in CA. Much cheaper in free states with no obnoxious handgun roster. Some anon bought one off a co-worker for $180 a few weeks ago (or at least I hope he did, the lucky fuck).
