These guys don't actually carry loaded mags in their meme guns do they?
>>
>>32506146
I really would be surprised if the weren't loaded. They really are a defensive gaurd.
>>
>>32506146

I'm pretty sure the premise of your thread is shitposting OP, but I did get curious and did some looking and there's conflicting answers. But I did find this

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2888716/Retreating-Queen-s-Guard-End-era-palace-sentries-fall-face-mounting-fears-new-lone-wolf-terrorist-attack.html

>The soldiers currently performing ceremonial duties outside the Royal palaces are drawn from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, F Company of the Scots Guards and 7 Company of the Coldstream Guards.

>These Guardsmen carry rifles equipped with bayonets but as a rule their rifles are not loaded with live ammunition.
The Guardsmen may carry up to six rounds in a belt pouch and may load their rifles in event of a terrorist attack, but that would take valuable time.
>>
>>32506473
They will stab you though.
>>
>>32506146

There's also armed police around the palace and next to them almost always and they do have very noisy shooters ready to quibble with the undesired Allah respecting proletariat
>>
>>32506146
Why wouldn't they?
>>
>>32506537
bongs
>>
>>32506555
Pretty sure they don't get high. Especially while on duty.
>>
>>32506146
I suspect that the ceremonial guard is really just cover for specialist counter-terrorism units that assume ceremonial uniform to protect public buildings
>>
>>32506584
Nope. They're drawn from regular active duty Army units. London has plenty of patrols of Police armed with MP5s etc in public areas.
>>
>>32506671
I understand that the ceremonial guards are drawn from active duty
but my point is that they could be discreetly replaced with more specialized guards as required

tell me, has there been any issues with the police being issued MP5s?
it seems like a lot of police forces lack firepower, and I'm not sure the rationale
>>
>>32506774
They are just that, ceremonial guards.

Then again, i do doubt that they don't have a loaded magazine in the rifle. Swedish ones do, i know that anyway.
>>
Queen's Guard doesn't walk with loaded rounds, but they do have ammunition on them and do function as a legitimate military unit.
>>
>day of rope
>ceremonial guards rush to her majesties residence
>with virtually no ammunition they are quickly forced to fight with bayonets
>against the mob of kebab, they form a pike square
hurrah
>>
>>32506850
>day of rope
>ceremonial guards rush to her majesties residence
>opening the secret compartment in their hat, they take out ammunition to load their guns
>enough ammo to remove the briefly surprised kebab in no time

That hat's not just for looks, it has a function!
>>
The guards are regular British army soldiers. The 5 regiments of foot guards are all infantry regiments within the army, there not just ceremonial they are real soldiers. Also the possibility of one of us being replaced by Special Forces on guard is unlikely, firstly why? We're all soldiers ourselves and there is a heavy police presence at all of the mounts (palaces, Tower of London etc,) and secondly they wouldn't be guardsmen, they wouldn't be able to carry out cerimonual duties to the right standard, or wouldn't work
>>
>>32506886
interesting, thanks anon
>>
>>32506146
After the terror attacks they probably do they even stepped up security and have gurkahs guarding the place
>>
I was in the Canadian version, The Ceremonial Guard didn't have any rounds whatsoever.
>>
>>32506146
They carry with full mags, empty chamber.
>>
They're ceremonial, they're not the actual people protecting the palace or royal family
>>
>>32506850
There's a barracks like three minutes down the road
>>
>>32507561
No, theyre both.
>>
When I joined there was no live ammunition to be kept in the weapon, but it was accessible if required.

There are numerous drills and routines, which have changed over the years, but it's essentially an Infantry Company with a small contingent that mount the ceremonial guard. The whole outfit responds if there is an emergency. Think of it like doing gate duty, except you're dressed up all nice for the tourists. And instead of guarding a concrete box somewhere in Yorkshire or Scotland, it's HM the Queen.

>>32507214
>gurkhas
>gg no re terrorists
>>
>>32507214
Security at Buckingham Palace is conducted by the resident Foot Guards battalion, whoever is around from the Cavalry and a small RMP close protection unit with a Metropolitan Police Officer. There is also the inevitable presence of the men with blurred faces.

Gurkhas can barely secure their own armouries, or tell the MoD how many soldiers they actually have in a battalion. They're utter pump. If you wanted to secure a wife beating contest or "how to attract sub-par officers" seminar then they'd be your best bet.
>>
>>32506146
No, because the mags fall out.
>>
>>32507760
it's a damn shame the gurkhas are in such messed up condition. someone needs to clean house.

They would complain about not being able to bring their entire useless family to the UK despite spending six weeks in a Signals platoon before being binned, fail a course en masse and blame the RSM LONDIST, fuck off everyone else with their massive logistics trail and threaten to unleash Joanna Lumley on the populace.
>>
>>32507786

Eh, it's not that it's ugly, it's that it's a jamming POS.

I have no idea what any of that is.
>>
>>32507782
The long and the short of it is that they've been unable to do anything better (or even as an equal) to the rest of the Army since about 1940.

I joined many, many years ago. Far too long to be awake at 3am on the internet. Even then they were really starting to have questions asked of them in terms of what they actually brought to the table. They had a role invented for them in Hong Kong when it became apparent they were utter crap at jungle warfare, with RGR units in Borneo gaining a reputation for needing constant bailouts.

I personally thought they should have been recruited under the same methods as the Fijians. They really weren't up to much.
>>
>>32507834
That's because, all valid criticism of the US Army aside, it's very good at identifying when it is being taken for a ride. It's also had a lot of experience in chopping dead wood off.

The US Army wouldn't stand for Gurkha shenanigans and would have wrapped the whole thing up years ago, which is one of the things the UK needs to do.
>>
>>32507880
A Sikh friend of mine was so turned off on hearing about how bad it was that he decided not to bother joining the british military at all, he was baffled they'd let something like that get so bad, lost all faith in them. went to the USA and became a marine, loves it, his nickname is bin laden since he truly does look like osama, even dressed as him for a halloween party the year he died, fake blood and bullet holes and all. What a guy.

The Daily Mail is not a reliable on source on this type of thing I'm afraid. Given how often they threaten to shoot I suspect they do. Certainly the guards in question are trained soldiers.

This guy clearly doesn't have one unless its a royal fannypack.

>The Daily Mail is not a reliable source

You could have stopped there, tbf, Mail's always been a bit dodgy but British media is useless in general for reliability now. Mail and Express love to use 'sources within the MoD' and other such terms that are basically 'we are making most of this up from the last Chris Ryan novel we read', then the Grauniad and Mirror scream about scary soldiers with scary guns, and the Sun just sits there playing with its own shit.
>>
>>32506146
Their guns are not L1A1's bayonet aesthetic so I'm 200% sure they are loaded.
>>
>>32506671
>>32506774
They're taken from high grade units usually. It's quite an honour and guaranteed punani action.

There's a book called Junior Officers Reading Club that the author has a stint as one after coming back from combat tour in Afghanistan.
>>
>>32506146
They should carry Enfields or Brown Besses. The L85s don't go with their uniforms.

Sounds like what the Washington Post has devolved to.
>"Sources within the intelligence community have said Russia may have directly tried to influence the election"
>>
>>32509338
Tradition mate. The regiments of the Guards Division always carry their battle-type rifle whilst on ceremonial duties. After all, they are a guard.
>>
>>32509430
There is a fairly accurate description of the setup above and the police are not part of the armed guard. They are there to process any arrest of civilians made, and that's about it.
>>
>>32507810
4 you
>>
I wished they carried a more traditional rifle, at least a lee-enfield + loaded
>>
>>32507826
Of course not but why should you?
>>
>>32506146
Spoke to a scots guard a while back and he stated, take it with a pinch of salt because he could be lyling, that outdoor ceremonial guards do have access to rounds somewhere on their uniform. I genuinely don't know where, but apparently they do.

But it's well known that there's a Metropolitan police detachment within the palace guardhouse and an actual armoury within also. There's usually around a company's worth of ceremonial guards and a small, maybe section size, of troops on VHR (very high readiness) incase of anything happens. It differs time to time, depending on proposed terrorist activity.

If it's anything like the guardhouse in merville, there's usually a rifle with a couple magazines close by to grab if Ali decides to get randy.
>>
>>32509266

Mail's better than the Express, which would have you believe they know every single SAS operation going down at any given time.

Out of curiosity what do you think the media needs to be more 'reliable'?

I don't think there really is a way to make them more reliable. A press regulator with actual teeth could easily backfire with a chilling effect. The editors/publishers in charge aren't going anywhere and aren't changing their ways any time soon. Even as sales are dropping in general for print media it just means they're even more reliant on clickbait, conjecture, and copied stories from other sources that didn't check their facts either.
