Hello /k/!
Sorry to bother you on New year's, but can someone provide more info on the Warrior tracked armoured vehicle?
It seems to be in the middle between the BMP-2 and Bradley.
I usually read an Osprey book for a start, but there is very little info available on FV 510 Warrior/MCV-80.

Worked with it for many years.
Very mobile, good protection when its armoured up with the applique (apparently it's gotten even better armour modules since I left) and its very reliable.
Gun was extremely accurate when stationary and has time to get right on the target, but of course has a lot of issues firing on the move or when rapidly engaging moving targets. As I hear the upgrade is going to put a meaty 40mm on there with full stabilisers though, so good stuff.
Overall, it's a great vehicle. Mobile, reliable, tough. Gets you in and out safely. Only real downside is the gun that went way too long without replacement, but that seems to be getting sorted in a year or so.

What about the optics ?

Used to be utter balls. Many days spent cursing them and good luck getting replacement parts. Got upgraded sometime around early 2000's, were much better then. Did the job.

What is this part and why does it open?

Did they have a laser rangefinders or a semblance of fire control system ?

Looks like an access panel for restocking those beach towels in the left corner

Well of course. Squaddies gonna squaddie.

Don't you have to introduce 3 rounds-clip after 3 rounds-clip by hand when you're shooting the gun. What I've heard made it sound like a very archaic system.

Woaw, thanks, that whole channel is hilarious.

Well what else you gonna do when a civvie has a BBQ going? Knock on the door? Fuck that shit, we're going direct.

You can get 6 in there, and if you're good you can keep it going fairly nicely. But it's finnicky as fuck and not popular these days. It's definitely outdated, but then no-one's unaware of that. S'why they're putting the CT40 on it instead. Pic related.

Same as the CVR(T) Scimitar variant. Three round clips, and god help you if you you had six in which were HE but you needed to switch to AP. You had to hand roll all six back out, slam in your three AP and roll in. Fucking nightmare, massive pain in the ass, and basically fuck all use for anything to do with real armoured combat.
That's why one of the lads in my Regiment ended up with PST. During the Gulf War, their Commander, who got an MC out of this, decided to engage an Iraqi T-72. A fucking T-72. Kept missing, when it did hit, didn't penetrate, and all the time, this thing was swinging its turret round, taking aim and firing. Thankfully, the Iraqi crew were just as shit.
Eventually he got an M-Kill on it and bugged out, but poor Leachy in the drivers cab was going into fucking meltdown with these T-72 rounds whizzing past his head.

That is the CBRN filters. One on the left is the main filtration units which can be swapped out. One on right is the filter pump unit itself that maintains the air pressure inside when fully hatch closed.

BGTI upgrade added a laser rangefinder, thermal imaging, and ballistic calculator to offset the reticle to the required elevation, but it's not a true FCS since it has no governance over the turret or gun.
The gun is not stabilised and only the turret course traverse is powered.
The old Raven sights just has day and I2 channels, and had an etched ballistic reticle.
The new Lockheed Martin turret beginning service in the next two years, is however fully stabilised and have a proper FCS with gun-laying
