As a veteran I personally get a good chuckle at stolen valor queers, but what insults me is watching other vets get so tremendously triggered over it. As for faking it, even if your uniform is absolutely perfect, if you can't talk the talk you'd still give yourself away. Veterans can easily spot a phony just through plain conversation and that's the kind of thing you can't learn on /k/. People who never served tend to have an idealized view of the military people who did serve will have a thousand terrible stories ranging from weeding the cracks in the motorpool to wearing full battle rattle while guarding the recycling containers outside the barracks (in germany) for a 24 hour shift to make sure all the dumb privates recycle their goddamned trash. Those are the types of things that a good looking uniform can't fake. I personally have thought about setting up a uniform to be exceptionally shitty and going out on veterans day just to see if anyone has the nerve to call me out.
