Why doesn't /k/ like .22LR? They good bullets. Deadly at further distance than most people can even aim, therefore great for hunting and self defense. They're also cheaper than most other bullets inlc. the 9mm. I don't see a downside to this kind of ammo.
>>
>>32466810
Everyone loves 22lr, it's great for hunting rabbits and coyotes within reason.

It's not a good self defense round. Rimfires are not reliable and the bullet will not penetrate a heavy jacket. It does not offer anything noteworthy over conventional rounds and is worse in just about every way.
>>
>>32466847

How heavy jackets do you wear?
>>
>>32466810
It's a relatively anemic cartridge that can't be reloaded by conventional means.
I won't shit on .22lr, it's a fun caliber and while it's not ideal for HD and useless for hunting anything larger than rabbits it has its uses. But it really is not ideal for almost anything other than plinking.
>>
>>32466856
Let me rephrase that. It will not reach the FBI standard of 12-18" of penetration in 1:1 ballistics gel through a layer of denim or a light jacket.
>>
IDF uses it in war with Ruger 10/22.
>>
>>32466906
No, they don't. That's bullshit. They use it against rioters and ONLY with backup from proper rifles. They basically just use them to shoot people in the shins.
>>
>>32466900

Oh yes. The mighty FBI and their mighty studies.

>The Federal Bureau of Investigation is returning to the ammunition caliber it labeled ineffective and blamed for the deaths of two of its agents during a 1986 shootout in Miami — the 9mm jacketed hollow-point luger.

>In response, the FBI fielded a new pistol round, one they hoped would have better penetration: the 10mm. In the following years, the 10mm was ditched in favor of the .40 S&W, a stubbier round that could fit into pistols designed for small calibers.

>Currently, the .40 S&W is a law enforcement favorite, but after recent studies on new 9mm rounds by the FBI’s Ballistic Research Facility, the 9mm is slowly finding its way back into the hands of police officers across the country.

Who told you anyone ever doesn't like .22LR?
>>
>>32466935

>Other use

It wasn't just in the Palestinian areas that the Israelis used the .22 rifles. In the ongoing asymmetric war with Hezbollah along the Lebanon border, it is believed that commando units used them to take out sentries and dogs before entering an area to maintain the element of surprise. This actually fits into long-standing doctrine. The Israeli air marshals, Mossad, and Sayeret Matkal had long issued the .22LR Beretta 71 (usually suppressed) for covert operations including the counter-terror operations authorized after the 1972 Munich Olympics attack.

it's the deadliest round you can buy, you know. It'll go through one side of your skill and bounce around inside because it doesn't have the energy to exit, so it makes even more of a mess our of whoever you hit.

Your average non infantry, black, female supply marine is good to 500 meters from the prone, at which point your little Micropenis round is completely ineffective

>>
>>32467075

>>
>>32466995
Why would you use a suppressed 22 over a suppressed 9mm?

I have a feeling its something that happened in a few isolated incidents due to unavailable gear and the "22 IS GUD VS PPL" faggots jumped all over it.

>he thinks pit love isn't a thing
>>
>half the price of 9mm
I wonder if 9mm uppers will become popular now?
>>
>>32467220
I'm gunna say size and complication. .22 suppressors are just smaller. It was probably decided before subsonic 9mm was common, so they'd have to port the barrel to get subsonic and a larger suppressor for that ported gas
>>
>>32467220
You can carry about 500 rounds in your back pocket with ease and the noise is really quiet, like really quiet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtenI4zMwWM

If you buy CCI stingers, they can be deadly, a lot of the feeding issues are with poor maintenance and Remington rounds, rems suck.
>>
>>32466847
bounces around inside the skull
>>
>>32466810
There are basically two reason to use .22LR
1. Small game, because even the more powerful rimfires can destroy too much of the meat on a rabbit/squirrel.
2. Practice, because .22 LR costs about $0.10 a round without reloading and no gun is effective until you are able to shoot straight.
>>
>>32466810
for some people, they dont have enough "oomph" with the recoil so some dont like it as much as other calibers
>>
>>32466966
Because guns that make bang makes loud sounds that hurts your ears and they are jews so why not?
>>
>>32466942
Ummm so if 9mm is getting better from improvements, why not just apply those improvements to other calibers?

Not really correct. .22 used to thin out the dog population. There are areas where there a numerous strays roaming the streets and they make a great early warning system when the army is trying to move about.

22 are also can be used against rioters. Mainly against rock throwers and shithead teens using slingshots. A 22 to the knee or shin is enough to change the mind of a lot of people.

Stop repeating the MSM narrative that Israeli land was somehow stolen. >>
>>32466810
The only thing "great" for self defense regarding a .22LR will be the ruling on your civil case because it wont seem too malicious on your part.

While they are generally cheaper than most bullets, supply is often low.

They're not my favorite for recreation because I personally prefer a cartridge that lets me know I'm shooting a gun, but some people prefer the feel of shooting graduated cap guns.

>>32466810
22lr is ok, I just get a lot more fun per dollar with centerfire rifles. It's not about the volume of shooting for me, it's more about the quality of the experience overall. It's like... I'd rather get a few really good gifts at christmas than a bunch of plastic tat presents that took a lot longer to open individually.
I get way more out of each shot from a centerfire because of the destruction downrange, recoil, and shooting a gun that's actually cool.
>Deadly at further distance than most people can even aim
Yeah, if you lob it like you're shooting a basketball out past ~200 yards, where it's dropping like a damn rock already. Anything centerfire with irons can hit stuff up to 400 without too much difficulty.
>I don't see a downside to this kind of ammo.
How about the fact that it's a tad boring to shoot out of anything but a pistol? And it's only on more even ground because common pistols are all a tad dull.

22s are finicky as fuck, I doubt anything other than a manual-action would be reliable with Al.
I remember a while ago there was some steel cased 22lr (Regular LRN) and it only worked "fine" in my 77/22, and in my no name revolver (sticky as fuck cases) but any autoloader would fail to cycle or feed just about every shot.

Your reasoning is based on your subjective experience and is thus intrinsically valid.

I'll give you the reliability issues versus centerfire cartridges, but the fucking memes you people will believe blow my goddamned mind.

Maybe at 100 yards with a thick leather jacket will .22lr fail to penetrate your body if shooting into a head wind, maybe.
