Other Nuclear bombs, what are some other weapons, real or hypothetical, that can level a city, or at least most of it?

Rocket assisted meteor

Nothing else in service today comes close to a nuke.

What is even this thread about?

No one single device, including any of the past or present nuclear weapons, is capable of leveling a large city. Most past and present nuclear weapons couldn't level a small city, that is solely the realm of Tsar Bomba &co. Render uninhabitable yes, destroy beyond use probably, level no.

Applied in large enough numbers most conventional rockets, bombs, and arty shells could in theory level a small city, but it would require both dedicated planning and hundreds of thousands of pieces of ordnance.

Well there was that earthquake machine Tesla allegedly had, but I highly doubt it actually did anything. I wonder how hard it would be to cause a tsunami using explosives to wipe out coastal cities?

While I generally agree with you there is no standardized size of a city and a nuclear weapon could easily destroy one.

It also comes down to what building material is used in that city.

Yes.

But there is a HUUUUGE difference between destroy and level.

Leveling would be to completely remove all above ground buildings and infrastructure. Destroying would just be breaking them. Not even the Tsar Bomba would level a city larger than about 3 square kilometers, which is a ~70,000 population city.

neutron bombs will leave it standing
you can use nukes to create earthquakes and tsunami's
Rods from god
a LOT of regular bombs or incindiary
Thermobaric warheads(largest non-nuclear) can be scaled up to tac-nuke size
>>32458309
this. does bio-warfare count?

It all comes down to what the city is built out of.

For example the Hiroshima was pretty much leveled as it was mostly made outof wood.

And still to this day a lot of the worlds larger citys (often located in 3rd world places) are constructed using shitty materials.
>>
>>32458391
Okay, yeah doesnt take much to incinerate/blow away shantytowns and tarpaper ghettos.
>>
>>32458181
Thermobaric weapon.
Strike of Police Department in Detroit.
>>
>>32458181
Not a singular weapon, but a good firebombing can level any city as long as its primarily made of wood

A battleship with sufficient ammunition supplies could theoretically level any coastal city with sustained bombardment.

Perhaps you could clank this hypothetical city to the ground.

Why did you post a picture of a cruiser?

It's been done before.

The Des Moines could fire over 100 rounds per minute because of its heavily automated 8-inch guns. Not as long of a reach as a battleship, but it could level anything close to the shore very quickly.

A weaponized, low-mass black hole could devastate a planet when it explodes out Hawking radiation at insane rates.
Antimatter-matter annihilation reactionary bombs have far greater potential than nuclear weapons.
Orbital kinetic weaponry ("Rods of God", giant fucking space rocks, decommissioned satellites/stations, etc.) have massive potential and would be intensely difficult to counter.

We can't weaponize any of this stuff with any sense of affordability, but nukes are certainly not the end-all be-all.

self replicating robots which hide and feed in the sewers until it's full, pop up and surprise!
Worse yet, nano tech gone rabid self replicating into the grey goo attack.
The trouble is, how do you command and control them to stop?
