The Savage Axis II XP is on sale for $399 with matte wood stock. It comes in .243, .270, .308, and 30-06. I have a 30-30 marlin 336 and access to a .243. I'll be shooting paper, hogs, and fairly small white tail. I was still leaning towards 30-06, but I want to see what y'all would get.

.270

For the flatter shooting? I like the .243 since it is like shooting a .22 (no kick). Is the .270 the same?
>>32443138
I should point out that the .270 is the only round aid the four that I've never fired.

I have a howa 1500 and a rem 700 both in .243, I'd get the .243.

I know I like the .243. With good shot placement, it can take the hogs and deer. Should I double down? We have a 200 acre ranch, so you can never have too many guns I suppose.

I honestly got to get away from different cartridges because simpler is better. I'm trying to stick to 9mm, .357 and .243.
I personally have no need for anything more. I've seen the capabilities of .243 at rages one would expect only 30-06 could reach and am fine with it. I buy or reload all 100gn. It's a fucking laser beam inside 200 yards which is where my game is going to be. I have no regrets and have never fired a non fatal shot at an animal.
>pic is spine shot at 120 yards, exit side

That's a pretty deer. Honestly, on the ranch, I won't be taking shots over 200 yards. I guess the reason I was leaning towards 30-06 is that all the bubbas out here think it's a required rifle. There is nothing out here that you need such a stout round for. Maybe I should stick with what I know and like.

>posts picture of bambi that still has spots
rofl Could've just run it down and it would've died of exhaustion.

>Is the .270 the same?
Not even kinda. Every .270 I've shot kicked like a mule.
>>32443245
You have a 30-30 for fuck sake, there's no more "murrican" required than that imho. My lever is a 1894c in .357 which I load to 30-30 performance then slap that shit in my 686 for 30-30 hand gun.

Kek, yeah I know, couldn't see spots until I walked up to drag it out. Slung it over my shoulder and walked out. Two weeks to eat the whole thing.

It's ok. We've all been there. I blew bambi up with my DDV7 a few years ago. Frontal shot to the chest cavity. Turned out it wasn't a small doe.
So .243 is the general consensus. Didn't expect that.

So it was charging right at you?
You weren't worried about busting the guts into the meat?

At this time of day, it's mostly Australian /k/.
It's not that surprising.

I don't suspect this is an Australian response thread.
