What's the correct protocol for removing hornets from the control surfaces of a military jet?
>>
JP-8.
>>
>>32405074
Call Animal Control.
>>
>>32405074

Those are honeybees, OP, so you should get a cardboard box with a window screen, put the box under the swarm, and wiggle the control surface to get the swarm to fall off, then put the screen over the box and secure it and enjoy delicious honey from your thousands of insect slaves after you transfer them to a bee-house.

You don't even need protective gear because bees are super docile when swarming.
>>
>>32405121
This. Avoid killing honeybees or any pollinator, really.

>>
Those are honeybees dipshit. They are swarming and are pretty much harmless unless you start squishing them, at which point their body releases pheromones that instruct the other bees to enter attack mode. Ever see those videos of people absolutely covered in bees? Those are swarming bees - and its the only reason its possible to do shit like that.

You can literally scoop them off with your hand if you do it gently. Or with a box, or a gentle vacuum. They dont need to be harmed. Youd be a huge scumbag if you just killed them out of laziness. Honeybees are mega chill, and critical to our the human races survival in modern times considering their role in mass pollination. Very interesting little insects, used to have a few hives in thr backyard growing up. It looks like an airport during a warm day with lines of bees flying to land in a line and bees taking off and flying in a line before breaking off to go to their pollen sources. They even have a few bees that guard the entrance and inspect the arrivals to make sure no terrorist bees sneak in.

Now, yellowjackets on the other hand... kill every last little fucker. They are flying assholes and the world would be a happier place without them.

>>
>>32405592
Are we talking about bees still?
>>
>>32405592

You can though by observing their behaviour??? They dont just get up and start stinging everything to death retard. They are just more defensive. Like when you approach a hive, if the bees see you and think you might be a threat, they will start hovering around you to scope you out. If you continue going closer to the hive, they will send more bees, and start bumping into you kind of aggressively. Only if you start swatting at them or continue to move toward the hive will you be stung, at which point they will all get super pissed and fuck you up. Normal honeybees are generally very chill and as long as you arent wearing dark baggy clothing (they think its a bear apparently) or have a strong odor, you can walk right up to touching distance of the hive, as long as you arent blocking the flight paths in the front which generally dont change. Africanized bees are just far more cautious about threats and wont let you get as close - thats it. Beekeepers dont like them because with normal bees you dont even need a suit if you are good, with smoke and a nice sunny day they are quite docile and its rare to be stung even while removing their honey comb trays from their hive. Africanized bees go fucking apeshit on the other hand and you absolutely want to be wearing a suit.

All of this is moot though, as regardless, the bees are swarming. They dont give a shit. They are trying to collectively determine where they will make their new hive, and thats it.
>>
If I was a bee, would i have a gf?
>>
>>32405707
No
>>
>>32405707
You would be a gf.
>>
>>32405707

No you would be utterly fucked. Its a feminist society. The hive is somewhat run by a queen who exists purely to create offspring. Next is the female bees - the ones everyone is familiar with. They collect the pollen and leave the hive and do all the cool stuff.

And last are the male bees, known as drones. Theyre fucked. They tend the hive and make sure the young are fed and are basically little bitchboys because they dont even have stingers. Its very rare they leave the hive. When winter arrives, since the bees can no longer gather food and must rely on the honey they have stored to survive until spring - all of the drones are gathered up and forced out of the hive and killed of they try to enter again. So they sit outside and freeze to death. Almost all of them, because they are too many mouths to feed and the queen doesnt need to reproduce like she does in the warm months. You can actually see a big pile of dead bees outside the hive in the beginning of winter - thats all the males.

Its a collectivist system though, with no individualism whatsoever - even the queen who holds such importance doesnt "rule" and give orders, she only reproduces. The female bees can decide at any point she sucks at life and surround her and vibrate their wings - causing friction and heating the ball of bees to the exact temperature needed to kill the queen from heat. Before doing so they spray about 8 of the queen's eggs with pheromones that instruct those eggs to turn into new queens. The first queen to hatch wins, as its very first act in life is to visit all of the other sister queen's egg combs and kill them before they hatch to prevent any competition.

Pretty fucking metal. But yeah nah tfw no bee gf

>>
>>32405893
>>32406011

No to both. My mom had a few beehives as a hobby when i was growing up. I just learned a lot about them through curiousity. I dont have some sort of autistic obsession like antman did, i just think they are really cool and was fortunate enough to have them around; retarded amounts of honey, all with hints of flavor that changed year to year based on the plants the bees visited. Hell, if you had a field of pot plants you would end up with honey that was laced with THC. I just wound up reading a lot more about them, i like to learn about random shit that interests me. Sue me.

Ants are also pretty dope although not as cool as bees considering they dont serve a purpose useful to humans anywhere remotely close to what bees do. That interest kinda sparked when i discovered a full fledged ant war in my backyard one day a few years ago.

Shit was METAL AS FUCK. Red ants were marching like 50 yards to fuck up a black ant hive. Like legit millions of then, the grass looked like it was shimmering it was fucking nuts. They were in full out battle above the black ant hive, dueling eachother and ripping limbs off and shit. Eventually the red ants broke through into the black ant tunnels, and you could see all the male winged ants fleeing from the other entrances, along with black ants fleeing with eggs. This went on for an hour before the final tunnel had red ants emerge from it victorious.

The next few days i watched the red ants guard the captured colony, and carey thousands and thousands of black and eggs back to their nest 50 yards away, i assumed for food.

Wrong. Weeks later i noticed black ants peacefully coexisting in the red ant colony without being raped at the entrances. Turns out these were PHAROAH ANTS, who enslave the young of the colonies they destroy.

I know theyre just bugs but seriously how fucking metal is that?! Armored insects raiding, raping, and murdering their weaker enemies and enslaving the survivors. Nature is fucking awesome.

>>32406313

Nature is interesting bro. So much to learn in life that can be learned from the most trivial mudane shit you typically wouldnt give two fucks about. Insect warfare is wild to watch, its just raw carnage on a tiny scale.

Did you know that one of the biggest ant colonies runs from south of the mexican border, through southern cali, and all the way up into the four corner states? A single colony - or rather a collection of colonies that are of the same species and work together for a common goal: total annihilation of their ant enemies. These brown ants fight total war against their red fire ant nemesis. Millions of of ants dying in battle every year, with colonies being captured and overrun, recaptured, resources stolen and restolen again and again. Its a stalemate. A war not unlike world war one, happening with tiny creatures right under our feet. It will never cease until one side genocides the other. If thats not cool as fuck then idk what is.

>>32406416

It really felt exactly like that. I regret not having a camera to record it. It was like watching a massive overmind zerg swarm absolutely BTFO a rogue cerebrate colony. The black ants didnt stand a fucking chance. Like their front line was already crumbling, their soldiers being ripped apart by the relentless red swarm, their tunnels being breached and their young being captured, slaughtered and enslaved - and the main force of red ants was still marching their way over to kick some black ant ass.

I kept watch on this red ant colony, i never before and never again have i seen this occur on the scale it did that day. I watch some smaller raids, but none compared to that one battle. They also only attack colonies that are roughly 1/10th the size, unless resources are extremely scarce, to garantee absolute victory.

"""Bee anon""" here just got back from the range and cleaning my rifles

Clearly you dont know what swarming is dipshit. You probably think it means what happens if you kicked over a beehive.

No.

Swarming is what bees do when searching for a new location for a hive. One queen bee and a fuckload of followers all leave their current hive and find a relatively safe place to chill. They arent very picky about this. While the swarm hangs out and protects the queen hundreds of scouts scour the local landscape and report back what they found.

The bees then collectively decide which location is best using their langauge that is based on foot movement and pheromones - no, we dont know how that shit works but it 100% is intelligent language that is capable of things like sharing ideas about resources. The swarm then take off and settles in its new home - which typically is a really shit spot for humans (ie: the trailer hitch hookup on a camping trailer) and ends up needing pest control/bee specialist to remove them, preferably safely.

They only swarm if the hive is too small to contain the whole .. hive i guess its called? In this event they produce a new queen, and the old one leaves with half of the bees. Beekeepers trying to keep note when there is a queen eggcell present when collecting honey, so they can have an empty hive ready to collect the swarming bees. Otherwise, the swarm may end up going to fuck knows where which is a loss for the beekeeper.

Btw im not like a bug expert or some shit and i dont have some sort of weird autistic obsession either. This is just general basic knowledge as far as i see it.
>>
>>32409703
>That post
>Not a bug expert or autistic

Okay buddy
>>
>>32409726

Bro its like literally the most basic barebones info on how bees operate. Im not even getting into seasons, climate, weather, optimal hivebox location in a yard, pest/disease control, queen insemination, etc mainly because im not a fucking expert and my knowledge isnt great on half of that crap. Again im not a bug expert. I just happened to grow up in a family that kept bees, thats all. A fucking 5 year old could do it, they practically do everything themselves aside from minor maintainance/optimalization.

Apparently if someone has any form of knowledge on something unusual or unconventional its now considered autism. No faggot, autism is when your like that antman weirdo fuck who wanted to be an ant or some shit and felt he fit in more with them than other humans. THATS autism.

>Its a collectivist system though, with no individualism whatsoever - even the queen who holds such importance doesnt "rule" and give orders, she only reproduces.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_bee#Virgin_queen_bee

>When a young virgin queen emerges from a queen cell, she will generally seek out virgin queen rivals and attempt to kill them. Virgin queens will quickly find and kill (by stinging) any other emerged virgin queen (or be dispatched themselves), as well as any unemerged queens. Queen cells that are opened on the side indicate that a virgin queen was likely killed by a rival virgin queen. When a colony remains in swarm mode after the prime swarm has left, the workers may prevent virgins from fighting and one or several virgins may go with after-swarms. Other virgins may stay behind with the remnant of the hive. Some virgins have been seen to escape the hive to avoid being killed and seek out another without a queen, such as in the eusocial bee Melipona scutellaris.[3] As many as 21 virgin queens have been counted in a single large swarm.[citation needed] When the after-swarm settles into a new home, the virgins will then resume normal behavior and fight to the death until only one remains. If the prime swarm has a virgin queen and the old queen, the old queen will usually be allowed to live. The old queen continues laying. Within a couple of weeks she will die a natural death and the former virgin, now mated, will take her place.

i've read the whole wiki page on pharoah ants and there's no mention of them enslaving other colonies. in fact, they are apparently highly non-aggressive.

>Later, host workers emerging in the parasite nest will be imprinted on and integrated into the mixed colony where they rear the parasite brood, feed and groom the parasite workers, defend the nest against aliens, and even participate in raids,[6] including raids against their original colony.[10] Altruistic acts of slaves are thus directed toward unrelated individuals. One hypothesis suggests that slave deception is possible because slaves are captured as pupae and learn the slave-maker colony odor after emergence.[11]

>However, in some cases, the enslaved ants rebel against their slave-maker ants, killing a large number of the slave-maker ant offspring.[12] The reason behind this is because "slaves can gain indirect fitness benefits by reducing parasite pressure on nearby host colonies, because these are often closely related to the slaves".[12] Thus, the slave ants protect their native colonies from further raids by slave-maker ants.[12]

even ants have house niggers and field niggers.

I don't know about Maryland, but In California we are nearly always at danger for wildfires, so generally you don't want people running around with flamethrowers.

Not that anon, but I've got 3 hive thingies of bees. They swarmed like twice one year (it's when half of the fuckers leave their home and start up a new hive nearby, they fly around outside of their old hive for hours before they actually fuck off)

I've jogged through the formations to get to muh chicken coop.

I'm also allergic to bees.
