Guns have pretty much reached peak ergonomics, if nothing else. A lot of guns from the 20's, 30's and 40's look awful similar to today's guns. I don't see why they would look that different in 100 years.
>>

To be fair, in the 20 years between 1930 and 1950, the kinds of rifles countries were using dramatically changed. Maybe there'll be some big innovation in the next decade and everyone will change.

the general public doesn't know shit about anything except for their niche of interest. People who didn't know shit about cars didn't notice 18 gear transmissions in Fn'F. People who don't know anything about computers think hacking into the mainframe is opening command prompt. Hollywood thrives on ignorance of viewers to cut corners and cheap out on the basis of MUH STORY.

guns in media trigger me when they don't even try.

i don't watch a lot of tv/movies but my most resent triggering event was from watching west world

>main female protagonist bout to go for a hay ride for the 3rd or 4th time
>this time she's packing heat
>points single action army at hay ride conductor.
>dramatic close up on the pistol
>hammer down
>oh, she'll just dramatically cock it to show she really really means to shoot him.
>gun goes bang
>ree

still a neat show though. I just throws my mind for a loop when that shit happens. I start thinking, ("that was a colt saa, right? was that hammer down? fuck!") while the show is still going.

"I say Blackadder, dosn't it annoy you when you're watching a play set in future days and they make believe that everyone still uses poppy-boom guns with musket-balls and powder stuffing and such? I just came from a show set in the year 2000 and everyone was still using muskets but they just shot more whizzy-nippers faster and didn't make as much smoke, and they had telescuppies strapped to the top part. How utterly dull and unimaginative! Where's the magic, where's the vision, where's the bloody creativity?

The concept art/prop production teams are now a bunch of freedom-hating nogunz cucks who think your average aftermarket floating barrel AR rail system is scary and more than "futuristic" enough for their movie.

Back in the 80's it was still "OK" for artsy film-production types to be into guns and glorifying violence, which is why you got such god-tier designs as the pulse rifle from Aliens. It also helped that it was a time where, thanks to projects like the G11 or the OICW not to mention real weapons like the SPAS-12, a e s t h e t i c futuregunz were in the US's cultural crosshairs.

t. art major.

To be fair though, we also live in a world where today you can buy shit like pic related from the factory and have something that makes everything short of a kitbuilt IRL Aliens Pulse Rifle or a G11 look boring and old-fashioned. It certainly doesn't help producers who want to be lazy.

Just about the only director who does movie guns right is Blomkamp, which makes sense since as an afrikaaner, he DEFINITELY grew up around them.
>>
>>32395941
I was hoping they would have gone up a generation or two and given the First Order L1A1 or L85 based rifles instead of the stormtrooper's sterlings.

The rebels could get G3 or MP5-based guns, or even ones based on STG42's and 44's or MP40's.

But that would imply that Disney actually cares about that sort of OT-aware worldbuilding.

This is future weapons done right. Of course now looking at it now might seem silly and bit dated but the idea are in the right place. I wish more movies would take more risk with prop design. The weapons from Avatar were a bit forgettable but the aircraft were inspired.

>>
Honestly, I find the actual combat in movies to be a bigger annoyance than the weapons used... Like how enemies are completely fucking incapable of hitting a target 20 meters out, when they are not even behind cover or anything. Like, really? Not to mention how the only cover people ever seem to use in movies is crates and shit, and they never try to fire from prone in bushes or anything... ffs, this is probably the most immersion breaking part of movies for me.
>>

the alien pulse rifle was based on a thompson (or was it an sks idk)
>>
>>32403991
The props (which were built from a sketch by Aliens director James Cameron) were built by British film armorers Bapty & Co. and consisted of an M1A1 Thompson for the main gun and a cut-down Remington 870 as the grenade launcher, which was mounted underneath the Thompson's barrel and covered with the forend, heatshield and pump handle of Franchi SPAS-12 fitted the 870's action. The weapon was finished with a futuristic, custom-made aluminum shell painted in "Brown Bess" paint (although due to on-set lighting, the guns often appear olive green in Aliens). Several practical weapons capable of firing blanks were constructed for the production, although only one "hero" prop had a functioning shotgun unit.
