I've always liked the original Automag. Something about the Luger-esqe design and it being chambered in a big huge magnum load. I'd much rather one over a Desert Eagle.

Let me guess, you just finished Hellsing Ultimate and you want to pretend you're Alucard every day. In theory you could carry anything, it just seems that a longslide 1911 doesn't seem very practical outside of target shooting or as a nice range toy.

I have a CZ SP-01 I carry daily. It's a nice gun pretty reliable, had it sent to Cajun Gun Works awhile back for their shooting package. Now looking at getting a P-01 or a P-07. You could look at them or look at Dan Wesson for 1911's.

No, AMT guns were generally not very well made. Their 1911s in particular were known for the slide slowly 'galling' itself (a sort of friction welding) to the frame at a high roundcount, due to being made from the exact same kinds of steel.

Also, I can see conceal carrying a full-sized handgun, absolutely possible, but why the fuck would you want to try to hide a longslide gun? It's like trying to hide an awkward boner.

The AMC Auto Mags were cool, but from a practical standpoint, the Desert Eagle is just lightyears ahead of it, I'd rather deal with trying to keep a Deagle running (not that hard), than trying to diagnose whatever problem the Auto Mag would suffer (malfunctions and durability, mostly), and figure out whether or not it's plausible to solve.

Hell, ammo was a bitch even when you could still buy it off the shelf, .44AMP was notorious for inconsistent brass and the gun would often choke like a bitch for seemingly no reason, because the casing was a fraction of a millimeter too long/short, the only way to shoot one and have it work is careful handloading.

That said, it would be neat to have a .357AMP pistol, just because it's such a cool cartridge, even if they're an even greater headache than .44AMP

Do you like the Longslide for it's long length, or just general looks?
Because there's various 1911 pistols that can have similar looks, pic related is a Ruger made 1911, MUCH nicer make, and not needlessly long.

On top of that, Ruger is still in (booming) business, while Arcadia Machine & Tool are LONG since out of business, and can't help you with their shitty gun if it malfunctions.

It shouldn't even be a concern to begin with, using the same steel for both the slide and frame is just bad design/manufacture, and even lubing it, the gun is just not very well made at all, AMT went out of business for very good reasons.

If you're gonna carry something huge, might as well be something that makes use of all the barrel length, something that projects something real heavy, .223 is awful from sub 14.5" barrels, and while 7.62x39mm is a lot better performing from stubby barrels, it's awfully loud and flashy.
