you have discovered a star gate that go into different planets, you have sent a probe through and realized the atmosphere and vegetation is similar to earth. You have no idea if there are hostile aliens on the other side.

How do you gear your away team of 5?

Keltec RFBs
M80 EPR ammunition

25 round magazines and one 50 round drum

double the usual grenade loadout (if 2 is normal, they get 4)

> aliens might be wildlife, alien critters might be resilient hunting beasts, you need stopping power for this
> accurate too

suppressive fire wastes ammo

---
thought process went this way:
* P-90s for lots of ammo? No the ammo isnt effective against bears
* 45cal smg with wadcutters then, no I cant think of hardly any 45smgs that are worth a shit
* 308 does damage like a 45 wadcutter, the THV projectiles would be ideal but nobody makes those anymore. M80epr is out now and that should do the job. If it doesnt, more dakka.
* RFB is the best light and manageable 308 I know of. Light means more ammo can be carried.
* 20round mags for 308 sucks, use 25 rounders, have a 50 round drum for oh-shit retreating
* Grenades are fuck-you devices, one time possible save your ass things that you wish you brought, so bringing more is kinda unfair. But it buys enough time to GTFO.

Fuck yeah. I would love to remake Stargate.

Commander - Stephen Lang
Primary: AR-15 with 1-4x optic
Secondary: Glock 1
Story arc: Disappears 15 minutes in and leaves behind alien massacre scenes that serve as background for other characters to comment on, reappears at the climax to heroically die setting off a nuke that allows other characters to escape

Interpreter - Cillian Murphy
Primary: None lol this nigga sux
Secondary: Glock 19
Story arc: Bitches about how other cultures deserve respect at every opportunity, gets butt-probed the first time he tries to talk to an alien

Inexplicable Female team member - Emily Blunt
Primary: P90
Secondary: Another P90
Story arc: serves as a dramatic foil to the interpreter, tells him how conquest is fucking awesome

Token black guy: Kanye West
Primary: M249
Secondary: Taurus Judge with .410 shells (comically misrepresented as a port-a-shotgun, of course)
Story arc: autistic anime-loving black guy, starts off as a prick but gets progressively more likeable until dying out of nowhere in the 2nd act during a quiet moment. wins best actor for "most realistic portrayal of a black guy in the military ever"

Humanoid alien team member: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson digitally manipulated into a feathered reptilian lookin dude
Primary: Another AR-15
Secondary: A motherfucking energy whip because fuck you
Story arc: Fucks shit up, creates comic relief by not understanding every other member of the team wants his dong hard af

President of the United States - Donald Trump in a cameo as himself
Primary: Twitter
Secondary: The mainstream media as unwitting accomplices
Story arc: Makes America Great Again / orders the complete nuclear devastation of the xeno homeworld

More than what the individuals are equipped with, is the roles that these individuals will play.

A common theme shown is you need
>A marksman
>A machine gunner
>3 rifleman (a submachine gunner maybe swapped in for a rifle man)

The thing I don't see much of is skills they need to have. You need at least
>One medic
>One cross terrain survival expert
>One linguistics expert (must be fluent in several languages from different basis)
>One trained in diplomacy
These experts also need to be fully combat trained.

Separate teams to send on their need would be
>Physics
>Chemistry
>Mining
>Archeology
>Botany
>Diplomatic/negotiation
>Medical
>Engineering
>Pure combat/escort
These also don't need to be fully combat trained except my last suggestions here.

I would not force anything more than round and magazine commonality upon the teams since they will most likely come from different countries. I would set it up so the teams pick out their equipment and asseccories so it would be tailored to their strengths (although I would insist on all weapons having backup irons).

I'll send people through when I've confirmed it's clear of hostiles.

If these ayys are sentient, chances are they are technologically vastly superior and even trying to fight them would be a bad idea.

Otherwise, they are most likely basically animals, so I'd go with some .50 BMG rifles and some 10mm SMGs, that should take care of basically any animal.
Also, consider that any kind of living thing such as bacteria, viruses, spores etc. you bring there or back may have unforeseen consequences, so really I'd suggest keeping it at probes until you know more.
>>
>>32384569
>If these ayys are sentient, chances are they are technologically vastly superior and even trying to fight them would be a bad idea.
>Otherwise, they are most likely basically animals
This.

They're either going to be way beyond or way below us. Finding something on roughly our level is extremely unlikely. There's nothing special about our level that suggests that a civilisation would plateau there.
>>
>>32384569
>any kind of living thing such as bacteria, viruses, spores etc. you bring there or back may have unforeseen consequences
Also that.
In reality, SG1 would come down with potentially lethal allergies every episode or two. At the least, they'd be getting hayfever ALL THE TIME because they'd constantly be meeting pollen and stuff that their bodies would react defensively to. And that's just the stuff that isn't outright toxic.

the gate doesn't work like that, it's a one way street for matter. a drone however can send a signal back so if it has a barometer, you'd know the air pressure instantly. or if it has a camera, you'd be able to receive the footage.

3 I outfit with:
M27
-AP ammo
-Reliable 100rd Magazines
Glock 21s

I issue one of the 5 with a Magpul PDR, and glock 21

And I issue the last as a SDM with G3/PSG1 and Glock 21

The M27 provides suppressing and accurate fire as needed, and reliable 100rd drums make it sustainable, each one is thus capable of acting as a rifleman or squad gunner. The PDR is used for point in any confined spaces, while maintaining the ability to change mangazines with M27 gunners. The PSG-1/G3 is selected for it's 7.62x51 cartridge, its relatively compact size and accuracy. Unfortunately the PSG is fragile, so it could be put on the chopping block to be replaced with something else.

this

The Jaffa staff weapons need to be taken apart and reconstructed in rifle/carbine configuration. If they cant get rid of the stunner on the other end they can just point it upward and have it sticking out over-the-shoulder.

Never said how many shots the staff weapons get or what their ultimate range is, but it seems like even the staves have a pretty long reach if somebody was able to AIM them properly.

> the neon juice naquadah shit that powers it, revealed when Jack took it apart to dial the 8th chevron, probably has enough power to be a nuke and likely powers the weapon long enough that it might as well have infinite ammo

> most of the alien weapons could be really deadly if they had a Scope on them. Worth actually leaving bullet-burners behind for, or at least trading for heavily suppressed 45s or 9x39s.

>>32386254
No there are some problems with this, sounds like a pleb assumption.

Beowulf as well as 458sc and 450bush are all pretty much in the Shotgun Slug class. They're just rifled thats the only difference.

You're getting stopping power for sure, and you're getting meat penetration but you're taking such a massive hit on ammo capacity somebody is going to have to carry a shitload of Loose Ammo to top off all the magazines with.

> Magazines for the high caliber ARs will only hold 3-9 shots.

This is THE reason why we need a necked-out 308 because then a conversion for an AR10 will still get 20 or 25 rounds.

I think with the shoulder width the way it is you could stick a 10mm projectile in it, like a reversed .408 cheytac bullet. We're basically talking about a 50 beowulf now except you get three times the ammo capacity.

I guess someone could do something similar with the 6.5 grendel case but it wont have as much firepower.

A pack mule or a mountain bike can consistently carry heavy shit over crap terrain.

Mainly, I want this capability because I want my dudes to be able to carry back samples consistently.

Also, I want them carrying Javelins or Kornets, because the ability to kill just about anything, from far away is a good idea.

Also, "A Gun for Dinosaur" dealt with this exact scenario.
