I sort of have a similar experience. Guns brought me my best friends. Before firearms, my friends were all depressed, homebody, boring videogame addicts who only ever wanted to lounge around, eat trash and do NOTHING. The only thing I had in common with them was that we went to the same schools as kids, they would never do anything outdoors with me and definitely would never come shooting with me. Now, the friends I've made in the shooting community have been some of the most interesting people I've ever met, and I have far more in common with them than I ever could have expected. Obviously I didn't just abandon my old classmate friends, but my point is if not for guns I wouldn't have met my best friends. Plus I even met a couple of boyfriends through shooting.
