Hello comrades. How am I of the removing of the cosmoline?
side not and I guess psa. This is what I got from buying the cheapo makarov from sportsmansguide. I can take more pictures if anyone is interested.

My method for this is to take it apart hang all parts out in the sun or someplace hot and all the gunk will run out after a day of that
>>32339412
Easiest way. Set it in the sun on a hot day, fuck around until 1. Grab rags and brushes and go to town.

I live in alaska there is no sun or heat.

Completely disassemble and clean with gasoline or mineral spirits and an old toothbrush.
>Youtube search"Detail strip makarov" if you don't know how
Lightly oil and reassemble.
Enjoy your mak.
>>32339532
If you hate nature, Carb cleaner in a bucket, gloves and toothbrush. If not, you can use gasoline in a bucket and scrub.

I just bought a Bulgarian one a few weeks ago covered in cosmoline. What I did was disassemble the pistol, then place all the parts in a tub of mineral spirits then wait. After a while the cosmoline will break down and you can get it off easily. I used a toothbrush I think.
>>32339835
Thats what I did. It works.
>>32339835
And remember, cosmoline is your friend.
It kept your gun safe from the elements until it got to you.
>>32339412
I mean, you could always try cooking it

As I recall, that fucked the blueing up.
Ruined a perfectly good finish for memes.
>Just looked it up in the archive, I was right.

this
you can field disassemble too but it might take more work to scrub everything out
>get a quart of mineral spirits, dunk everything in them, wait for like 15-20 minutes at minimum, longer wont hurt
>then start brushing with warm water and toothbrush/q tips until its all clean
>oil and reassemble.
will take a while to clean. Make sure you have a place to vent the air, recommend letting it soak outdoors then bring just the pieces into the garage or something to brush it all off. gloves help.

Toss it in the toaster oven/conventional oven on low heat.
Or in a microwave, it's just a thought.

No wonder I can't find spare mags for cheap.
What ammo?
S&B?
>>32339412
Holy shit, I have one of these coming in Friday... please tell me it was worth it.
>>32339412
More pics OP
Yes. Post more pics pls. I'm interested to see what a $200 Mak looks like. I've been seriously considering buying one.
>>32340541
>>32340680
Not OP here, mine's not in terrible shape. I mean it's not great but it's not as worn as the couple posted in this thread
>>32340471
It is S&B. I bought a few boxes before shit hit the fab and mak ammo vanished
>>32340541
Mine was basically brand new. Deep, shiny bluing and mint bore. I must've gotten lucky though I think because a lot of people are saying they got dogs on the reviews section of the page.
>>32343854
Mak ammo is easier to find right now, but brass case is nicer.
I have a few boxes of Underwood +p XTP for my Mak, but I normally just plink with wolf.
>Was able to get a case for ~$115, wish I could've picked up more.
How do you like the S&B?
>>32344076
where can you find surplus mak ammo?
>>32339412
for a pistol, boil in a pot of water.
>>32344085
>surplus mak ammo
Don't know.
I was talking new manufacture stuff.
S&B is new, as is the Underwood.
This >>32344096
Also, add beef soup cubes, pasta and vodka.
I have boiled out many a makarov in my day. A big pan of boiling water is about the fastest way. Disassemble the pistol and put all the parts in the pan except the stocks. Blow dry with air compressor. Make sure your wife is going to be gone for a while and it is not a pan your going to need again. After last time I got bitched out for the smell in the house I now use the side burner on the grill. For long guns I use a heat gun but that does take a lot longer.
Dan's Sporting Goods has brass cased Fiocchi 9X18 on sale for $125 per 10 boxes of 50. Good stuff I bought a bunch and regular 9mm too.
I need to sell my Arsenal Mak and buy one with ((10)) on it.
I like mine
>>32344544
Got to have the ((10))
>>32344610
I just disasembled mine and scrubbed it down in really really hot water
Op here cant take a good picture with this cam but oh well. I inspected it again and it looks like 90%+ blue still left on it. All the discoloration is dried cosmoline. I cant find any rust either but it might be under all this caked on cosmoline.
On the other hand I'm pretty sure that is not a standard screw.
Both mags are covered in cosmoline as well butI did load and unload each and they worked really well.
All in all either I got lucky or the reviews on the site were unlucky. Gun is worth well over $200 in my opinion
>>32345069
Awesome, thanks for the info.
>>32344337
This is how I cleaned mine last week.
Looks good, only some bluing rubbed off around the front areas. I'm happy.
It's the fastest and best way to clean small parts. I have a dedicated cosmoline boil pan now. Even when I do a rifle I usually disassemble and boil all the small parts and heat gun the rest. It's just so much faster and why bother with solvents when you don't have to. Just blow dry, oil it up and go shootin!
>>32346030
>dedicated cosmoline boil pan
A new meme is born.
>>32346066
...You don't have a Cosmoline pot?
Do you even surp, bro?
Hickock 45 should put some cosmoline in his pots and be smoking cosmoline pot
>>32346076
All my ex-YU stuff is war trophies collected from dead serbs. It was cosmoline free when I took it. Theoretically, OFC.
