All MTs hate their life it's the worst job in submarines, even worse than nuke. It's like nuke minus the fuck huge bonus. Worst of both worlds.

Radio is okay but keep in mind TS clearance involves talking to people from your past, so if you smoke on the regular you risk people slipping up and telling the investigator that inadvertently.

If you want to avoid the whole TS clearance fandangle, go MM (non nuke) and you'll either be an auxillaryman (fix everything, clean shit pipes) or torpenisman (maintain/load torpedos and manage small arms). A-gang is hard work and TM is shit advancement but neither are bad jobs.

Just keep in mind, lack of motivation has no place in subs. You can and will get fucked on the regular if you're lazy, especially regarding quals. Being a dink ass nub is not a fun life.
