IMO MAC does some shill videos but he's pretty upfront about them. Most of his videos are guns he buys himself or borrows from his store, and he does quite a few videos on guns that are out of production and sometimes even made by defunct companies.

I think that more than anything, if he's shilling, it's not for gun companies but for shit he has at his store and wants to sell more of.

I like his channel, though. Lots of straightforward info in a relatively short time, he's good at presenting it without being boring or super autistic, and he doesn't pretend to be a super tacticool mall ninja instructor whatever type. I watch gun videos mostly for entertainment and his videos are much more enjoyable to watch than Nutn's or whatever.

Being a fanboy means you blindly adore something while bashing anything else. It is never good to be a fanboy. Also, Mausers aren't functionally all that special. They barely even have any advantages over a Mosin

There are a limited amount of advantages to the Mauser bolt over the Mosin

>Smoother clip, though the Mosin clip can be almost as fast if the right technique is used
>Controlled feed instead of push-feed can potentially make the bolt slightly smoother
>Kar98k is slightly shorter/lighter than M91/30 (If the M91/30 had a barrel that was 4" shorter, they'd pretty much clock in at the same length/weight)
>Kar98k has a magazine follower that prevents the closing of the bolt when empty
>Kar98k's safety is better

Ultimately the rate of fire is practically the same, the speed of reload is practically the same, and there's nothing inherently inaccurate about the Mosin bolt. Some Mosins will be less accurate than Mausers due to wartime conditions, but generally speaking, you'd have to go to pretty intense ranges before you'd even notice the difference. Mosins have been taken to 900-1000m before, and with irons have been taken to at least 600-700m so the difference in accuracy is negligible unless you hand-pick a Mosin that is PARTICULARLY low quality. Like I said though, functionally, they're on the same level. The Mauser is not so much more accurate that it blows the Mosin out of the park, it's not so much faster to reload that it makes the Mosin appear to be like a muzzle loader, the bolt is not so smooth that it makes the Mosin appear to be a single-shot, etc. I would say the cheapness at which the Mosin can be produced/bought outweighs the mostly insignificant advantages of a Mauser.

Have you ever tried to go 5+1 with a Kar98k? Yes it's doable, but it's finicky (I have to push the 5th round as far back in the mag as I can in order to get the bolt to clear over it), and working the bolt after firing that first of six rounds is insanely stiff and clunky. Yeah, cock-on-close Mausers are smoother than cock-on-open Mausers and therefore smoother than Mosins, but standard German Mausers are cock-on-open. I was using the Kar98k as the main example because many people seem to think it's the best bolt action of WWII, even though functionally it's pretty much status-quo to other designs for the most part.

Hah, firing without letting go of the bolt? It is a VERY uncomfortable and awkward thing to attempt. You need to jut that middle finger WAY back. With a Lee Enfield, just sticking the first two joints of your middle finger out a little will have it at the trigger. If you keep the finger in just the right position, you can basically slam-fire a Lee Enfield; a round firing as soon as it's chambered. Trying to fire a Kar98k without letting go of the bolt, your hand will get sore quite quickly because of how much you must strain your middle finger to reach back, and I can't see a 'slam fire' type grip being managed, especially since you have to muscle the cock-on-open bolt open after every shot.

The Kar98k is absolutely an aesthetic design, but its advantages over a Mosin is negligible. The 6+1 aspect is so awkward, not to mention that first working of the bolt will be so stiff, that I'd say it's FAR better to just stick with 4+1 like a Mosin.

I was never trying to tout one firearm as being better than another. Functionally the Mosin and Mauser are pretty much on the same level with any advantages that the Kar98k has being just about negligible. More-or-less the same rate of fire, very similar reload speeds, same types of sights, same capacity (Both my Kar98k and M1917 will ONLY allow the bolt to clear over the top round for +1 if the cartridge is intentionally pulled back as far as it can go in the mag not to mention both bolts (even M1917's smoother cock-on-close) are VERY stiff while trying to chamber that second round), and so on. Whatever you like to think or say, it's VERY uncomfortable and awkward to fire a kar98k without letting go of the bolt, but with the M1917 and just about any Lee Enfield, it is easy and comfortable as can be.

Comparing the M91/30 to a Kar98k is a very valid comparison because of all the similarities. If I were to be a fanboy of anything though, it would be a No.4 Lee Enfield, but I don't blindly love that design. I love that design for very specific reasons. Also the fact that I gave the Mauser its due benefits (controlled feed, utterly smooth clips) says that's I'm obviously not a fanboy. If I were a true Mosin fanboy, then I'd be blindly bashing the Kar98k while touting the M91/30 as being superior, which isn't the case here. In fact, I'm not sure if I've even given any reasons why a Mosin might be better than the Mauser. I've said the Mauser's clips were better, that it's lighter/more compact, and such, so it's not like I'm being disingenuous or unfair. Since you claimed I was a fanboy, I mentioned my preference in WWII bolt actions. That's not 'switching guns', and I'm not trying to win or 'lose' anything. Seems like you're trying to make an argument here. I have never said a specific Mauser therefore I am not switching guns to mention different models. You don't have to seat the +1 round any further back than normal, you simply press down so that the extractor travels over the rounds and pushes it forward like a regular magazine feed. The capacity on Mausers are about a 5 1/2 where the 6th round goes down a little but not enough to stay in the magazine. This means there is not a lot of pressure pushing up on the bolt when you have 5+1 loaded. Unless the particular gun you handled was faulty but none of my matching Mausers gives me a problem.
I will agree that it might sound like I am argumentative but you responded to my initial question. And on that end you have yet to answer what is wrong with being a fan of a particular series of rifles.
I think if we are arguing we should step back and realize we are both freedom and gun loving people who would probably get along and have a beer together IRL.

lolnope, both my 1942 Kar98k and (likely) 1917 M1917 are basically exactly 5 and 6 rounds respectively. If the top round in the mag is not as far back as possible, then a +1 cannot be managed because the bolt will not clear the cartridge. Left thumb must be pulling the top cartridge back while the right hand pushes the bolt forward, and there's A LOT of pressure on the bottom of the bolt making turning it and working it back a chore.

As for what's wrong with being a fanboy; it's defending a rifle that you love while focusing only one benefits of it, while focusing only on negatives of other rifles. I am almost a fanboy of the No.4 Lee Enfield because I consider it the greatest standard-issue bolt action ever made, but, I am also aware of its downfalls. I just don't consider any of those downfalls to be serious enough to lessen the functionality of the design.

I used a Mosin to compare the Kar98k to because they are functionally very similar, and of course there's the intense history of the Eastern Front during WWII where they went face to face in VERY large numbers. The Kar98k has some advantages, but I don't consider any of them to be noteworthy enough to say that the Kar98k is on an entirely higher level than the Mosin. Meanwhile, I'm certain the TFB TV guy would say, like you (or someone) had, that the M91/30 was the worst or one of the worst bolt actions of WWII. Functionally, it's pretty much on the same level as a Kar98k which I'm sure he would consider the greatest bolt action of WWII. It shows ignorance in the designs, in my opinion.
