I have the Cold WX ARs, they are very good assuming you are fine with losing some fine dexterity and sense of touch.

I've done a few hours of wood processing and the leather isn't abraded at all.

It was -10F here and my hands only got cold when I stood around.

Tactical Distributors had a -30% off sale for Black Friday, I got them along with the Cold WX balaclava and the Alpha Gen 2 pants.

It is supposed to go on your strong side near the front, kinda like appendix carry. The idea is that if you're ever using it on yourself one handed you're gonna put your gun down, and if you're using it one yourself with your left hand, you want it far enough center so that you can reach it. By putting it on the right hand side you leave your left side clear for mags.

I use British MK2 combat leather gloves, it had an MVP liner but I cut it out, now the glove just serves as wind protection. I use Leather gloves in tandem with smartwool glove liners or sealskinz merino glove liners as the insulation.
It works pretty great and dries quickly.

5 mags, 3 in the placard, 2 in the double mag pouch.

The plate carrier is an Asgaard Tactical, they're not making them anymore. This plate carrier has some seriously dope features though. The drag strap pops out when you pull to give more length, and the cummerbund is a triple band like the JPCs but has mesh side plate pockets.

for 30 to 0 I would buy some wool baselayers and softshell pants and jackets. if you're looking for tall boots I would also consider Danners. Ultimately every brand has a slightly different fit so if you have unusually wide or narrow feet I would research that as well. My feet are wide so when I bought Merrells I ended up going up half a size, and in retrospect I can't stand how they feel a little too long. The Salomons are just right for me.

>>
>>32303035
>Spalling
So your argument is more against steel plates altogether?
>it can't stop 5.56

Uh it's rated 3/3+ NIJ so I'd be willing to bet it would stop nay 556 you can throw at it considering Level 3 will stop .308 and 3+ *can* stop AP .308
>>
>>32303131
Why do people keep arguing. We do this at least once per thread. None of us want to explain it for the 500th time. If you want to bet your life on it then go for it, we don't give a fuck anymore
>>
>>32303143
I'm new here and literally anything and everything I can find, and any test amateur Youtube or professional tests show that anything 3+ NIJ can and will stop 5.56 green tip. and even 7.62 black tip.

I'm genuinely curious if there's a better alternative.
>>
>>32303166
they're just trying to shill ceramic

if you want armor that will disintegrate after an hour of crawling, go for it
>>
>>32303184
Tbh I'm legitimately wondering. I get this is a mongolian claymation discussion website but I'd appreciate non-meme arguments.

Ceramic seems to be the objectively best option if you want to have the best chance of no harm taking only a few shots whereas steel plates seem to be a better option to take more than a few shots but have issues with spalling after around the same *safe zone* of ceramic anyways.
>>
>>32303184
>muh ceramic

>>32303131
3+ is a meme rating, NIJ does not certify the "+" its at least level III which is unable to stop projectiles going over 3000 fps.

steel cannot be more than level III and the truck bed liner goes away after one or two shots removing your + rating

>after one or two shots
Is there any conclusive data on level 4 ceramic plates being able to withstand more than multiple shots around the same place?
>>
>>32303166
steel core beats PE
high velocity beats steel
only ceramic stops everything

this is due to each material using different principles to stop rounds.

"20+ rounds multihit" is a crock because at that quantity of fire, you've already taken a few rounds in the limbs and face and neck anyway through pure dispersion.

The professionals use ceramic for a reason: it's the best. it's not even that expensive any more.

Ceramic is not porcelain fragile. I took off my IOTV and dropped it about a meter onto a stone, brick, rock, or wood floor every night of deployment for two deployments, and never had any cracks. Unless you plan on being attacked by a crew of jackhammer-wielding lunatics there are no problems with ceramics durability.

ultimately poorfags gonna shill for steel and try to bring everyone else down to their level because they didn't have the impulse control to eat 1 burrito less a day in their basement to afford ceramic (or PE, for the weight nazis), and subconsciously know they will never need to use their gear for real.

I'm pretty /fit/ af senpai, so "dimensions" aren't really an issue for me I was just legitimately wondering in a true Shit hit the fan scenario whether it's worth the possibility of being able to stop 1-2 30.06 but then having no more armor (Guess you can just take the one from the back of the plate carrier lol) or if the lower rated steel that can take X of whatever round but obviously more of while retaining integrity but risking shrapnel flying into your arms.

>>32303319
I would hope so, my question was if there was a decently succinct "chart" on like
6 5.56
4 7.62
2 30.06
2 7.62 black tip
etc
Or something along the lines.
>>
>>32303310
I DIYed myself some rifle plates from surplus german flak sof body armour. made a mould, epoxyied 50 layers of the kevlar. then cut out the shape with pic related. 45 layers of that did stop 193 so i added another 5 to make sure.
>>
>>32303345
Except you don't have "no more armor." Most if not all level 4 plates also satisfy multihit requirements, and even if they didn't, plates are only -for- stopping a few rounds to begin with.

if you are planning on taking multiple rounds you are already fucked. in the military sense, plates are for stopping near-instantly mortal wounds, not death, incapacitation, or injuries that can be mitigated via level II surgical care.

if you are wearing plates in SHTF, better also plan on a working hospital with surgeons, antibiotics, blood, and the friends and vehicles to get you there. your plates will catch two rounds to the chest and the rest of your body will catch three more. without a support system, you'll be shot in the guts and femorals and die slow and wish you weren't wearing anything so that you could have moved faster into cover, stayed out of gunfights by hiking farther, or just been put out of your misery faster.

"multihit" is fine, but it's the result of too many people looking at one-way range groupings and thinking that reflects reality.

Lifting weights for short periods of time and being able to carry 20 lbs of plates plus whatever you need in your pack for extended periods are totally different. Don't just assume you can do it without trying it first.

>>
>>32303519
15-20lbs of a plate carrier really isn't all that much to carry around all day. However it does cut into what could be thought of as your "weight budget". Max weight being either 60lbs or 1/4 your body weight, whichever kind of math you subscribe to, but both are the same concept.

The maximum weight being how much you carry before your individual combat effectiveness (awareness and decision making being big factors) dramatically diminishes. Note that somebody can still move and ruck around past their weight threshold for that, but they start to become zombies more focused on hauling weight than looking around at their surroundings. A lot of soldiers should understand this kind of experience.

15 or 20lbs in armor takes a good chunk of that "weight budget". No problem for rocking around on the range or just walking, but add a weapon, LBE, 40lb ruck, etc on top and it starts to take its toll.

So, ya know situational dependent loadouts. But I'm sure everybody is just going to talk around me and dickwave their moto at each other.

Finally took an updated pic.

Went camping a week or two ago and it got nice and cold. Had a little snow on the ground when we woke up and everything. Tested out some of my cold weather gear and it worked well. I was nice and toasty throughout the night. My only issue is my legs were cold, even while wearing sweat pants under my regular pants. Any good recommendations for something warm to keep under my pants? Also my fleece was just a tad too big to wear under my softshell. It worked well enough but I'd like something a tad smaller to wear under my softshell. Otherwise we didn't get to do too much shooting. No real space for rifles, but I got to put a few mags through the H&K and got to mess around with my buddy's KSG. That thing is pretty fucking cool, I'm almost tempted to get one. Didn't really get any good shots while camping as my phone died halfway through the first day. Hopefully gonna go shooting innadesert soon, will try to get more pics there.

Yeah lolno not even close unless you're literally some sort of Herculean god you're probably somewhere around sub 20 minutes like the rest of us. I'm just really good at endurance running. I'm not particularly fast, my 5km is ~18:00 ish, desu I've never actually timed it but I can easily do marathon runs consecutively day by day without much of an issue seeing as my regular morning run is an hour 10-15k.

Roleplaying as a tier 1 operator with gun buddies once a month doesn't mix so well with being a physics research partner to undergrads and stuff.

/k/ got any advice on how to "come out" as really pro-gun and pro-carry to particularly anti gun friends? (family really isn't the issue but I know they're make it political and as most autist tier STEM majors I can't stand philosophy or politics so no thanks)

I meant as ways to approach the subject. Like some people suggested I take them to a range day or something; show them that guns aren't scurry black death baby killer 30 caliber 200 bullet seconds per clipazine.
Starting to post any pictures on social media (which is basically all I wanted to do in the first place and is really the only thing I'm self censoring) prompts questions and "lol I like guns if u dont like it fuck off" isn't really a proper response... That's just being an asshole.

About to finish my undergrad in Physics.

The best tip for "coming out" is to drop the identity politics and approach it logically in terms of constitutional/natural rights.

Are you me?

I keep my firearms hobby extremely separate from work. Less so from school.
>>
>>32305499
Ah. It's a rapdom mask. I got it from my milsurp store for like $6. Don't as fuck. Keeps your head and face fairly warm too. I slept in it when I went camping last and it was a dream.
>>
>>32305573
Man, that's what I'm trying to avoid but friends are the "poltic-y" types. Half them went into Liberal arts History, social work and one straight into political science.

I'm wondering the best method to introduce normies to straight bleeding heart libs to guns as a hobby. It'll probably be easy since they're long time friends I more just don't want any of them to feel awkward or at worst threatened.

The goal would be to have a conversation along the lines of "Hey it's my birthday (or similar excuse) you want to come to a range" simple range day, leave and then not talk about firearms again unless friends are interested more into range shooting in which case I'll help to introduce them as best I can. Holy shit it literally feels like I'm a fucking pussyboi coming out as gay. Worst comes to worse they avoid talking about firearms in front of me. They have before and that's how I found out some are fairly anti-gun. I don't think it will be an issue.

Ignore the bleeding hearts. Ignore the normies. Focus on your actual friends. All of my genuine friends know I shoot, know I'm conservative, and know I own guns.

At a "friendsgiving" party I recently came out to them that I voted Trump. I was received quite well actually.

You don't need to invite them to the range. It isn't about converting them. The first step is just to help them accept that part of you.
