I've seen Isis claims that their offensive for palmyra was anywhere from 120 to 300 men. Well that's obviously bullshit considering there was 800 ndf, 250 SAA and some Russians there. Something like 15 vbieds were used and the SAA claim armor as well and anywhere from 2000 to 3000 Isis. Reasonable considering they attacked from 3 points. Now what happened no one seems to fucking know. SAA claimed the ndf were bribed, ndf claim the Russians booked it and didn't tell anyone which spooked them Isis claims ~300 dead ndf but only posted pictures of loot and no bodies so who the fuck knows. What I know now is Isis is dangerously close to the t4 and reinforcements are on route

Well the Iraqi military dropped all of their weapons and fled Mosul when only 800 ISIS members rolled up. I wouldn't doubt that the Syrian military is just as shitty as the Iraqi one, especially considering that they would have lost the war long ago without Russian and Iranian support.
>>

Well considering the Russians have been involved for a year and the Iranians 2 I'd say you're wrong. There is one of you in every thread claiming the Iranians and the Russians were there from day one. They fact is they made a decent showing of themselves for an Arab army, and the flood of arms from the Sunni powers were and influx of foreign fighters were there from very early on. The SAA tended not to run like the Iraqis and some ndf have made a good show of themselves but a lot don't do very well when the pressure is on but they are militia and that's what you get with militia.
>>
I think the Russian expenditure alone for their intervention was like half a billion USD. Not sure how much Iran has spent, but I seriously doubt any more than that.

Compare that to the hundreds of millions, maybe a few billion, the US and the Gulf states have collectively spent on trying to overthrow Assad.

Good God
>>

Yes I've seen that it's from a Bosnian Isis member who took part in the assault but you have to remember Isis doesn't tell the truth all of the time and numbers tend to be fucked with a lot on both sides

The Russian air force does not have Close Air Support capability. They are essentially no more capable when they were in the 1980s in Afghanistan.

Only able to bombard static, pre-determined and often outdated targets.

They don't even have a fraction of the US surveillance and long range strike capabilities, unable to detect an attack in the open fucking desert.

This is going to be extremely humiliating for Russians, after that ridiculous ceremony in the Amphitheater. Surely, ISIS is now going to blow it the fuck up.

Getting routed by some fucking irregulars in pick-up trucks, holy shit, what a disgrace and appalling sign of weakness.
Russia confirmed for Third World tier force.

>>32295127

Yeah, I'd be getting pretty fucking weary of an "ally" like Syria by now, and looking to get the fuck out of that place as quietly as possible.

It's clear the Syrians don't deserve victory, they have to rely on ONE unit to do any work on the ground. That simply is not tenable.
>>

>>
>>32296765
>I'm not even sure the SAA/ndf that were actually there know what the fuck happened

Yeah, there's an exact word for that. A ROUTE.

Of course they have no fucking idea what's going on, they panicked and fled. You're not going to develop a coherent picture of the situation when you're literally running as fast as you can in the direction opposite from the enemy.
>>
>>32296855
>Overconfidence

That has nothing to do with it. The SAA simply lacks men and units that can stand their ground under direct contact with the enemy. There's 1-2 units and one of them is a mercenary force (Desert hawks).
>>
>>32296802
No there is still a pocket in Aleppo

>>32296861

The SAA fights in Latakia (who's commanders are apparently incompetent and not that well regarded) Homs, Hama, Aleppo, Daraa, and quneitra pretty much daily and you can bet your ass that's not entirely held together by the ndf/pmu's.

On a different note did y'all hear about the units of Chechens Putin is sending down? They look like some mean mother fuckers

Who should I be rooting for in this clusterfuck?
>>
Looking at any news this morning. I don't have much. Step posting a midnight claim JAI repelled a SAA attack originating from M5 into the eastern Ghouta pocket plus some Ruaf airstrikes in southern Aleppo.

Fronts to watch:
-eastern Aleppo pocket collapse, how long will this last stand last?

-IS eastern Homs/T4/eastern Homs front lines

-YPG/SDF advancing some on northern Raqqa with US air support as usual

-Turkish FSA still on the outskirts of Al Bab

-assorted fronts like Latakia, Darra. Deir Ezzor and eastern Ghouta

Well I mean 3, desert Hawks, Tigers, 4th armored. You have the real hezzbollah too. There are Syrian units we just don't hear about because the SAA and ndf are more on Facebook groups than Twitter. Twitter is more of an FSA medium. The Syrian marines are still a force and the air force intelligence has ground troops that supposedly do spooky shit, and some various other armored/ mechinized units that have been gutted.

Egypt is started to get involved on assads side due to their large shift away from the Saudis do in no small part because of the Saudis warming views on the Muslim brotherhood and they aren't seeing eye to eye with turkey these days.

Say what you will no one is keeping numbers on foriegn fights with the "FSA" the only numbers I've ever found were for Isis and I think it's safe to say no one really knows their man power at all. Iraq and Syria are massive sectarian proxy wars but not nessicarily proxy wars on the ground as Some Sunnis are in the pmu's and the Iraqi army and fight with Assad. For fucks sake look at the amount of men and armor that turkey has put into northern Aleppo. There are AT LEAST 300 ground troops and 100 vehicles (that's conservative) including Leo 2's.

"Syria as an ally" as you put it is fighting the brunt of a massive power struggle and it is important for Russia/Iran/Iraq/ & now Egypt to see that Assad stays in power and the state remains somewhat stable.

This is why I stopped coming to these threads because you have to explain all this shit every 5 seconds and even when you do people either don't listen or pipe up with the same bullshit 2 seconds later

Really? I'd be a little surprised at that since I thought they'd stopped doing anything in Aleppo a while ago and were leaving it to SAA+AF to handle largely on their own, with just a few advisors left to try and herd everyone in the right direction. Why RuAF would feel the need to get involved again seems a bit of a mystery, especially with the habbedings elsewhere and Aleppo looking like it's firmly going one direction, unless I've just misread the reports that they had moved their aircraft away from Aleppo.

It wouldn't surprise me if we were keeping an eye on things and considering the amount of msm stuff saying "don't defeat Isis just yet" idk what obamas plans for Isis really were. Hopefully trump really intends to bomb them to the Stone Age and get our boys away from working with the "FSA" monkeys who call our boys Christian whores and stupid shit like that

I will end with this, Isis couldn't have taken and hold onto this much territory with 300 men, along with making a direct attempt at the t4 today. It's not possible considering reinforcements are there and even the pro SAA people are saying a counter attack will take time because of the number of Isis in the area. It's not surprising as this area has been hot for a while and Isis was going to strike somewhere. Say what you want but there are minimum of 500 but If I had to guess this sounds like a force of atleast 1000 if not more. The desert is fuck huge and mountainous so gathering up a force that large isn't out of the question this is Isis clay and has been for years.

Because, even if the city have few specific strategic values for the SAA, and which they didnt even employ in their fullest, with ISIS holding it now it can only goes downhill for the Government side; ISIS forces will quickly spread again like plague against the isolated cities and villages in the Homs desert, that the SAA spent so much time and efforts to retake, like Qaryatain. Or just leave ISIS alone. Hold them back as best can be done.

Politically it makes more sense to go for the FSA.

If you leave ISIS alive you can easily justify Russian/Iranian presence while dealing with FSA

ISIS creates a fog in the mind of the western populous, easy to use them as a boogyman to distract from operations against FSA

Then, once FSA is routed, and inevitably large number of fighters move from FSA to ISIS, you can go full retard on ISIS and no one will care.

Because if you break ISIS, then many ISIS fighters will shift to FSA and then you have problems.
>you have to go softly softly with FSA

So focus cleaning up FSA, and then end the war with attrition based warfare against ISIS in the desert... TOS, cluster munitions, WP... no one will care.

Frankly, you could drop mustard gas on an isolated ISIS position in the desert and Trump would probably send cigars.

If its just a dominant position, well then Russia has a nice big new target... hard to miss an airfield.
>>
>>32300468
Very likely. IS will dig in, mine the area, maybe demolish some more ruins in the meantime, but overall they can't hope to hold the area for a long time with Raqqa being under threat. (Apparently the attacking forces came from there, so now the kurds up in the North could make some advances)
>>
>>32300483
One of the largest air base fortresses in Syria, probably a huge ammo cache and staging point too. If ISIS took T4 that'd be really bad.
>>
>>32300435

>>
>>32300483
Its a huge airbase in central syria. That alone makes it important.

It probably has huuuuuge arsenals of everything an army could wish for.

It also would be a devastating signal (politically speaking) if SAA (and russians who are present there apparently) would lose that airbase so easily.

Some places can't be allowed to fall into enemies hands if you want to maintain at least a minimum image of professionalism. Losing a place like T4 is for the SAA like losing Aleppo for the rebels.
>>
>>32300490
sure they are not just fresh in from Iraq?

I am not saying that the Americans would be coordinating, but it would make sense for them... you know; never attack an enemy without leaving them an avenue of retreat
>>
>>32300499
>probably a huge ammo cache
It's the biggest one in all of Syria. The SAA used T4 as the main ammo dump if they went to war with Israel.
>>
>>32300527
The route from Mosul to Raqqa or Syria in general is closed by Iraqi units. Maybe a couple of guys could slip through, but i doubt a rather large force could do this.

That said, if they do take T4, it would be the end of SAA presence in Eastern Syria. T4 is there last SAA position east of main N-S axis where they could organize and attack towards east. they clearly are, they are mostly focused on their near-abroad, and they have had a port in Tartus since Soviet times. The cards and set-up was agreeable for them to intervene, and barely do any fighting on the ground besides sending in technicians or special OPs.

Putin is clearly aware of the mistakes that occurred in Afghanistan and is very keen to get a moral and absolute success right now in Syria, which involves Assad coming out triumphant.

The plan was to mainly provide SAA with air support and non-combatants, e.g. minesweepers, medics, engineers etc. There are also some specops units nobody knows much about and FAC. SAA and Hezbollah provide the grunts. Unfortunately, with everyone's attention being focused on Aleppo, Palmyra was left in the hands of wog pogs who ran at the first hint of trouble. It seems like the weather favored the assaulters, their advance was hidden by the sandstorm. I guess when the defenders saw all those madmaxian vbieds emerge from the sand, they must've grabbed their favorite goats and fled.
A war with the sand people cannot be won with airstrikes alone, there have to be boots on the ground. However, why should Russia send its own men to die for those who can't stand up for their homeland? I swear, if there's any infantry unit these Syrians deserve it's the komissars.

This fucking joke war is so funny, it's better than anything on TV. You got sand nigger fanatics running around in pick ups and driving suicide bombs into each other, tribal warfare, ineffectual combat, poor understanding of modern weapons and combat and lots of dead Slimes.

Wouldn't it possible that some guys in the russian military want to create a situation where the politicians can be convinced that its necessary to send more troops?

So now that Palmyra has fallen again they might think that this would convince Putin to send more.

What the fuck? How are they supposed to look like? A chlorine gas cylinder inside a barrel?

Looks like the """moderate""" rebels and the (((media))) are making shit up again.
>>

But thats not what happened this time. They fought for like 2,5 days to cover the retreat of all the civilians. At this point, the russians were long gone though.

quite literally that. It's happened periodically in Idlib province. I really wouldn't put it past some spiteful air force commander. It's not like they are really effective or anything, just an added fuck you. That or they used old chemical waste and re-purpose the barrels as bombs, they are rather large barrels that store chlorine.

The 2A4 is kinda old actually. It was build between 85 and 87.. (i have no idea if the turks have any kind of upgrades on their tanks to bring them up to date).

Of course it gets blown to pieces by modern anti tank missles.

Access to several 100k civilians (tax payers and recruits).

What he lost:
around 20 vehicles, maybe 100 militamen and a little town in the middle of the desert.

>>
>>32303349
I've seen the statements on twitter that they executed between 50 and 80 guys by now, but why not.

The rebels are not official soldiers, so according to international law these guys are just thugs with guns in a warzone and martial law allows to kill them outright.
>>
>>32303370
I assume they will keep it at minimum. A few head figures have to die, but overall the amnesty programs will be accepted i guess.

I assume that lots of the fighters will get the choice to join the NDF (and shipped directly to Palmyra).

Exactly.

I'm pretty sure there were some unplanned executions of well know figureheads. I mean, these guys fought against each other in Aleppo for month while taunting each other on twitter and youtube. Some bills have to be payed right now.

These very first hours after the victory are super chaotic so some rebels might just disappear but overall i think they won't just execute all of them.
>>
>>32303145
>>32303349
ive heard people freaking out about it, only thing i actually saw was a video of the SAA beating the shit out of some guys. a couple of them looked like they might have been dead but you couldnt really tell.

they were searching peoples phones to see who were jihadists, a lot of them shaved their beards and tried to get out with the civies. depending on what they find yeah they might kill some of them.

they claim to have gotten the 3 memebers of the zinki gang you cut off that kids head too!!
>>
>>32303420
Rebels pokered high and lost. Of course there is some anger and hate among the SAA guys who lost friends and family to the rebels. And if some of them were stupid enough to keep pictures of themselves with cut off heads or similar things on their phone while trying to escape than they had it coming.. They could have surrendered weeks ago.
