I agree. 9mm is the best.
Capped.
All pistol calibers, except for 10mm, absolutely suck at killing things.

Only because hollow points are shit.
9mm and 5.56 are roughly equal in power.
You could literally just put a 5.56 sized projectile in a 9mm case with a sabot, and you'd get about the same performance.
Modern pistol bullet construction is based on a flawed concept that failed over 100 years ago.

You get half credit.
JHPs are pretty shit, yeah, but there's also velocity and means of wounding to take into consideration.
Rifle rounds at rifle pressures and velocities have to mechanisms of wounding - initial impact and tissue destruction, which pistols rounds also have, as well as a secondary tumbling/fragmenting/pushing/blasting effect that causes further tissue damage in a wider area.
Also, 5.56 is ineffective unless it hits bones or well-built men in general, because it had a tendency to not do the things that cause secondary wounding until AFTER it leaves the body, provided you didn't hit bone or hit a small/thin/starving person.

If your metric is "maximum dead", I'm going to have to go with .600 Nitro Express.

.600 nitro is as much a pistol calibre as .308 winchester is. It isn't a pistol calibre just because some retard built a "pistol" chambered for it.
Best pistol calibre cartridge is .460 Smith Magnum. Fight me, bitch.
