are ballistic helmets even worth it? They seem to only stop shrapnel and handgun rounds
>>32283440
How wrong you are
If you're going to wear any armor at all a helmet should be the first thing you go for.
Depends on whether or not there is anything in your head you need to protect. By the looks of things, no you're fine.

no because shrapnel and handgun rounds pose no threat to the skull.

This, after the British issued helmets to their soldiers in WWI their wounded rates soared.
>>32283925
Why did the rates increase?
>>32283944
Previous to the helmets they would have been dead.
>>32283944
The helmets reduced many fatal injuries to non fatal levels.
>>32283944
Because previously fatal wounds became survivable wounds.
>>32283944
People got injured instead of dying. Seriously.

Really? Don't see any reasons why this wouldn't work.

>are they even worth it?
Considering there are a metric fuckton of pistols in the US. If you're far enough away, there is a good chance at stopping a rifle round too.
You can always toss it if you no longer want to use it...
>>32283452
Weight on this?
>>32283440
This may be a stretch but there are tons of videos on youtube from the middle east of US soldiers being saved from snipers by there IIIa MICH and ACH helmets.
Sure it won't do anything at 50yds, but at 600yds maybe.
>>32283944
Bc normally the person would have been able to run out of the way of the bullet but the increased weight made them slower and easier to get wounded

From the the chief engineers mouth over hte phone full system weight including shell is 2.75 lbs flat. Uses Dyneema and Ultra compressed poly to make the helmet it sells for 2000 right now or 1500 in spring time.

In previous major conflicts, artillery & air strikes cause the majority of casualties. Also, a modern helmet has a decent chance of preventing an intermediate round from penetrating fully at long range and especially if it doesn't hit squarely head on.
As a civilian? Hell no. Wear earpro headset and whatever you think is fashionable. If you're super rich tryhard and have NVG's, just get a bump helmet to mount them, 1/10 the price.
Shrapnel protection is extremely important. Pic related
