This is the only logical reason to not want the Marines to get proper funding. Or any infantry unit regardless of the branch to get proper funding. You take away one of the biggest factors that leads to all these 18 to 24 year olds being crusty, pissed off dickheads who will gleefully focus that rage and anguish into a firefight and you take away their combat effectiveness.

>>
>>32280981
By what metric would the USMC be considered the most wasteful branch? If anything they provide the best value in capability to dollar. There is no way to argue that the Marines do not contribute a disproportionately large portion of the military's ground and air forces relative to their budget. Even if you factor in the USN providing funding for some aircraft, doctors, corpsman, and religious personnel you still wind up with a better value over every other branch.
>>
>>32281268
Dude the Marines are a waste. Most of their larger components overlap with Army and Navy elements. If anything they need to be renovated like the Royal Marines. Lets not forget when they piss away money on shit like buying NEW M16A4s instead of M4s or 1911 pistols instead of a 9mm handgun, which they are doing now. .
>>
>>32280981

THIS

FUCK TRANNY SUBHUMANS AND FUCK GREEN DOT TRAINING
>>
>>32281122
the fuck is that ball thing
>>
>>32281306
Even if you look at the overlapping capabilities that the USMC shares with the Army is still going to be more cost efficient. The single largest cost savings provided by the Marines is personnel costs, because the have a higher ratio of lower enlisted and about half the officers per enlisted. Now you need to consider the benefit of having a dedicated branch focused on expeditionary warfare, and how it has become key factor in the US' ability to project power to parts of the world that contain 80% of the global population. The USMC is built from the ground up around the doctrine of expeditionary warfare. In order to accomplish this most efficiently and effectively they are organized into scale able units that are able to perform all military actions that usually require coordination multiple commands. In order to maximize these capabilities the USMC is heavily integrated with the USN. This requires an understanding of Naval operations and doctrine. So you need to factor in the learning curve and costs associated with the Army building these capabilities from scratch. You also need to consider the human factor of getting the Army and Navy to work together. You would be surprised by the amount of animosity and inter-service rivalry harbored by men that have reached the rank of General or Admiral.

>>
>>32281618
don't forget the know how that gets build up in a organisation that has to do similar task frequently. And the ease of spreading said know how in the more contained branch.
Learning how to operate effectively on the other side of the world with no first class port or airstrip for hundreds of miles would be hard on any formation that doesn't learn where it can cut some corners to stay effective.

A separate branch will also allow you to draw on recruits coming with different goals and attributes. The marine core is a bit like the french Foreign legion. You know you will be deployed and have people shoot at you. You want to get stuck in, but you don't make special forces muster.

it's all about specialization.

Marines as his Praetorian Guard as his police forces are not into war-fighting. Get control of the monies by downsizing the government (of people who won't sign on to his winning coalition). Setting up systems to grind domestic opposition into paste. Setting up for eternal war (with China) after curb-stomping (stops funding) ISIS.
Pity about the environmental collapse thing and the next iteration of peaceful Islam removing the Saudi family.

>>
>>32285722
>muh standardization
>muh newer model

M16A4 is a perfectly fine platform for a rifleman. In fact, wasn't the current service round for 5.56 intended to be fired out of the 20" barrel of the A4?
>>
>>32285722
The M4 has 50 meter reduction for maximum effective range for a point target in exchange for a collapsible stock and lighter weight and ease of stowing it in APCs and other vehicles, while having a smaller risk to flag your barrel when building clearing as well as being much easier to use when wearing full PPE. The M4 is the superior choice.
>>
>>32285768
> In fact, wasn't the current service round for 5.56 intended to be fired out of the 20" barrel of the A4?

>>

>>
>>32287416
lol, he won because flyover country is full of dummies
>>
>>32287642
Generally I don't elaborate on here because no one bothers to read.

Trump doesn't work through rational arguments and thought. He isn't capable of fully rational and constructed speech. He also has a lower mental age and acts both childish and aggressively to criticism or conflicting opinions. This is pretty much the textbook definition of an idiot.

Also, elections don't require a president to be particularly smart, he needs to show the image the people want to see, while saying the things they want to hear. Trump is loud, makes outrageous claims, tells people he'll make their country great again and so on. That's exactly what was needed to be voted in.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate him at all. I think he's been surprising me positively a few times since he's been elected. I'm just hoping he delegates enough on matters he doesn't even grasp, or at least listens to others, while he takes care himself of the issues he understands. For example, I'm hoping he doesn't base his politics with Russia on his Info Wars level of knowledge of the country, or fucks up alliances and partnerships in the world because of his 12 year old understanding of geopolitics. On the other hand, I'm hoping he removes all this retarded SJW shit in US schools (and everywhere else), starts having reasonable policies towards immigrants and so on. Fucking with China also is a good idea, but hopefully he listens to competent people on the matter.

This is why I said Mattis is a cool guy. He's an intellectual, he promotes brains even in the lowest soldier grunts, he understand geopolitics and isn't going to let anyone weaken the US and its alliance game.

Okay now you can give a reasonable answer without sperging out.
>>
>>32287690
Here's my reasonable question to you:
>Trump doesn't work through rational arguments and thought. He isn't capable of fully rational and constructed speech. He also has a lower mental age and acts both childish and aggressively to criticism or conflicting opinions. This is pretty much the textbook definition of an idiot.
How do you know all this?
>>
>>32287755
Well everything he says gives a good idea on his speech capabilities, his arguments give an idea on his argumentative capabilities and logical train of thought, the reaction to criticism gives us an idea of his behaviour to it and so on. Unless you're claiming that everything he said is either a CNN propaganda scheme, or he's somehow playing dumb.

Of course, expression shouldn't be taken too seriously, in the sense that some people are just bad at expressing themselves. But generally his whole behaviour provides quite a few hints. He doesn't seem very smart for a president, which is actually the main issue I've had with him from the start.

>Rational means shit makes sense
Now if only your argument would.

You're looking at the effect to determine cause, for one thing. Why is Trump the "billionaire-president"? (the way you keep repeating that specific 'title' ad-hom is telling as well) Because he's smart! How do we know he's smart? Because he's a billionaire-president! Which adds circular reasoning and confirmation bias into the mix as well.

If he runs his companies like he's apparently running the government, he's delegating all the important jobs to people who actually know what the fuck they're doing, while he focuses on picking the fucking drapes (something he was literally doing last week, or maybe the week before, for one of his hotels). Being smart enough to delegate to people smarter than you is a kind of smart... but not the kind you're talking about here.
>>
>>32288159
>I put guns first when I vote for Trump.

>I voted for a NYC billionaire who has supported the Democrats for much of his life and who has no qualms whatsoever in backtracking on what he says because this is a man who feels the same way I do on the 2A

Hillary was worse. But if you voted for Trump because you think he's pro gun then you're a moron.
>>
>>32288173
There's actually nothing circular about it.

Trump is smart, therefore he maintains his business and now he gets to become his president.

>

The NRA were hated on this board for years.

>way to out yourself as a first time voter
If I was a first time voter I'd be the one believing a man to be pro-2A before he's even got into office.

He's a NYC elite who spent years backing the Democrats in that state. Their position on the 2A certainly didn't mean he took his money elsewhere. If you trust that then you would trust anything, so I have some magic beans and a bridge in London to sell you.

Yes, because he says he is and there's nothing that says otherwise.

Even he does not support the AWB anymore.
>>
>>32288198
It's because they're simple. Simple people think that people they like (their friends, sports stars, politicians and so on) hold the same beliefs they do.

"I like them and because I like them they like me and the things I like."

Hillary supporters did it too. They genuinely believed she was the progressive candidate, as opposed to a neo-con hawk. Trump supporters believe that he's with them on every issue.

I'll believe Trump is pro-2A when his term(s) are up.
>>
>>32288211

>>
>>32288313
>the man has been pro-gun since 2001?

So what, since he was in his mid 50s? Clearly grew up very pro gun and had his opinions moulded by them, certainly not down to political ambitions.

Your source goes from 2000 (when he was in favour of waiting restrictions), then jumps forward about 9 years when he started his political ambitions. Your own source proves what I said to be correct - he shifts quickly and when it suits him, and at no other time.

You aren't very bright, are you?
>>
>>32288227
>I actually know he's smart because the man has maintained his business and is now successfully politically.
So fuck facts and evidence, only smart people can ever be successful, and that's how you know Trump is smart?

Also the circular reasoning comes in because you're the one making both claims. That Trump is smart and that smartness led to him becoming President. And that him becoming President is the proof of his smartness. The confirmation bias there could be mopped off the floor, so to be brief, you negate any point you're trying to make because you're saying something that you have no proof of to explain why something happened, and when people ask for proof, you claim that the result is all the proof you need.

Then again, you were the same idiot who was saying "results are all that matter" earlier in the thread, weren't you? So I suppose I should hardly be surprised.

Yeah, probably. Though considering the obvious racial and class-based tensions in the US that this election has shown, I wonder if getting too diverse might cause problems down the line.

Trump is smart, because you don't get to 10 billion from a 1 million loan while living a supremely lavish lifestyle at the same time.
To get to that amount through the stock market, for example, Trump would have to live like a poor man for 30 years to get the same result.

To add, Trump:
Finished top of his military academy class.
Graduated from the Wharton School of Finance.
Had to work with construction workers during his youth.

He had a good foundation to be street smart and cunning at the same time.

If you read how he fixed the Wollman Rink and a New York harbor ahead of time and under budget, you can see his knack for finding solutions and just calling stupid shit out from the get go.

"People want leadership, Mr. President, and in the absence of genuine leadership, they'll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand."

"Lewis, we've had presidents who were beloved, who couldn't find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. People don't drink the sand because they're thirsty. They drink the sand because they don't know the difference."

Well the "millionaire-billionaire" part made me feel like I was talking to a child. And your whole demeanor through the argument. I get that you're not taking your side of things seriously, it's 4chan after all, it's why noone takes things seriously (and then always complains when it's just the other person doing it).

But success doesn't prove intelligence, that's not an argument. Nor is it logical. And so any conclusions based on that position are also flawed.

And a side-note about logic, since it seems so many people around here have trouble with it in general... Logic is NOT math. In math 1 plus 1 always equals 2. While logical thought need not always have the same conclusion for the processes that go into it to be logic.

>Who you vote is directly related to the matter because that person can be pro-gun or anti-gun.
It certainly can be, but who you vote for is not the be-all, end-all determiner of your beliefs. Most people do not consider guns as their primary issue of concern when going to the polls. But that's apparently enough for some people, regardless of who that person voted for, to declare someone anti-guns.

Frankly there's no greater proof that the fuckers whining about "modern /k/" are the newfags, considering that /k/ has held single-issue voters in disdain, even when that single-issue is guns.

they were idealists. capitalism is built on lot's of selfish people that try to provide value for each other out off selfish reasons leads to an optimum in a chaotic evolutionary way.

communism is built on the idea that smart people can cooperatively and selflessly put their heads together and find even better solutions together and go with the best and the rest of the people will also cooperate and do their best for each other and this is a hell of a lot more efficient than the capitalist approach.

both bunches had workable ideas but only one recognized the truth about human nature. even tho we are capable of being both selfish and competitive and cooperative and self sacrificing one works out better at large scale and the other better at small scale.

>Immigrants in the past Americanized themselves, retaining only their food and religion. This isn't the case anymore.

Is there actually evidence to show that assimilation rates are lower than before? Or is this just a meme people have decided is a fact?

It usually takes a couple generations, but America has some of the most successful history of assimilation. Irish, Catholics, Asians, and Germans. The list goes on.

We considered Chinese rail road workers a secondary class and now Asian-Americans often out perform Americans in certain areas of education and income. We enslaved an entire continent of races and while they're dirt poor as a demographic and have a lot of issues it can't be seriously argued that they don't consider themselves to be English speaking Americans.

It takes time. It also takes some effort from governance and the home population to properly assimilate.

Sorry hombre but the race war ain't coming.

By and large the vast majority of people don't really care that much about race of immigrants outside of /pol/acks. They care about the sanctity of their values and culture. It's all a matter of perception more so than real problems. If you start perceiving immigrants as assimilating then you'll find yourself more open to the idea of indoctrinating them into Americanism.

>It takes time. It also takes some effort from governance and the home population to properly assimilate.
That's one of the major things they don't get though. I've tried explaining it before many times, pointing out how the population of 'Chinatown, USA' tended to integrate poorly and remain insular, precisely because the existing population did everything in their power to exclude them, including cramming them all in one ghetto. Meanwhile asians who've been coming here in the last few decades integrate much better because they're not facing that same kind of behavior.

Also I'm not sure if that guy was being serious about the "food and religion" part, since St. Patrick's Day certainly wasn't anything people cared about until the Irish came in en masse, while there's Cinqo de Mayo from the hispanics. People keep cultural aspects all the time, just that noone calls it that when it applies to the European cultures it seems. Also they're kinda easy to miss because it's largely regional. The local culture, beyond the core of American values, is quite different when you compare Boston with New Orleans.
