Why did the US military continue to use outdated weapons during vietnam?
Nigga we still had Greasers in the 90's.

Just because something's old doesn't mean it isn't good enough to get the job done. In fact, some older weapons beat the piss out of their newer counterparts.
>>32274833
If it aint broke dont fix it
>>32274833
gun don't age that fast
7.62x54R and Mosin is a fine example
we will see them in space conflict soon
>>32274833
Massive, insane, humongous surplus from ww2. Convoy ships were given away for free, truckloads of typewriters were dumped into the ocean, and M4s were sunk/stacked on beaches like rocks to form makeshift docks. Surplus ships were used as target practice for nukes as well.
>>32274833
"Current Year" is not a reason to replace something
WW2-era weapons were still widely used by just about every military during the sixties, USA was hardly the exception.
>>32274833
Or what? Go from Enfields to fucking L85s and fuck everything up?
>>32275025
>what is the SLR
It was only 20 years later. The weapons were hardly outdated.
>>32274833
"outdated"
>fuckin new guy here
Also, US supplied a lot of weapons to its allies. Makes sense in special forces to use the same weapons when the ratio is 3 whitey to 10 gooks.
>>32274960
>tfw ywn unload onna gooks with a Chicago Typewriter while listening to I Ain't No Senator's Son
Why even fucking live
>>32274833
We had some gronk-modified M14's that dated back to the Vietnam war we 'borrowed' from the Americans from around the Vietnam era when we first went into Afghanistan.

UZI doesn't count
>>32275645

This looks like a job forrrrr... The STEN! Orrr the OWEN!
>>32275694
>STEN
You would literally be better off with a Hi-point.
>Owen
I'll give you that, Owens are the cat's pajamas.
>>32275694
Owen gun and the Sten made appearances in Vietnam

It wasn't outdated until the AKM and then M16 came into use.
There's quite a number of WW2 era weapons that would be preferable to an M14 in Vietnam. The M2 carbine springs to mind.
>>32275694

great gun, but I wouldn't arm any army with one

you do not want to end like North Korea, don't you?

the 9mm conversions were sexy AF
but only dropped over europe during WW2
