Hello,

I'm not much of a gun person and don't know what these are. My uncle has these guns at his home. He passed recently and I don't know if any of it is worth keeping. Someone offered me $2500 for all of them which to me sounds like a pretty fair offer. is that worth it?

Uppermost is a US Army Springfield Model 189-somthing Krag-Jorgensen rifle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Model_1892%E2%80%9399

Middle is an Imperial German Gewehr Model 1888.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gewehr_1888

Can't tell you about the last.

That's all he had. Should I sell some? I may keep that M1 Garand. Something about no import Mark and less than 1 million serial he was always talking about with it. I don't know what the rest are.
>>
Whoever offered $2500 for all of then thinks you're stupid. The Garand in the second picture is worth half that, and the Krag in the top is worth as much if not more than the Garand.
>>
>>32266609
US Springfield M1 "Garand" rifle and I think a Winchester Model 94/22.

The Krag and the M1 are worth about $1K each, perhaps more depending on when they were made and their overall condition. I'd hang onto them if I were you.
>>
>>32266630
That's a Nazi-German Karabiner 98k and an Italian Carcano M91 cavalry carbine with the bayonet removed. The Kar.98k may also be worth quite a bit of money (easily $1K if in original condition with matching parts) depending on condition.
>>
>>32266637
>>32266648
Is there anywhere specific I can take pictures to help the value? I'll turn down that $2500 offer.

I don't think I'll sell the M1 and that Krag thing then. They were his prized possessions. Rumor has it he has more of these old guns hidden in a barn somewhere.
>>
>>32266637
Looks like that Krag Says model 1896 Looks to be in good shape I guess? No dings or scratches on the wood and I don't see any rust. A bunch of numbers all over the metal and they all read the same

Take a picture of the writing on the side of the Krag's receiver like pic related, and of the writing on the rear of the M1's receiver (behind the rear sight).
>>
>>32266665

$2500 seems fair for the lot depending on condition. From the way they are displayed/stored they probably are not shootable, which is a detractor.

If you have a small flashlight and can get some pictures down the barrels we can give you a better idea.
>>
>>32266736
Double check they're not loaded before you listen to this guy.

Don't look down the barrel without being 110% sure they're unloaded.
>>
>>32266736
I'm getting more pictures in a bit. I know they are shoot able as he used to shoot daily at least two years ago.

He became a raging alcoholic so his brother took his ammo and didnt let him shoot unless he was sober. Which its alcohol that killed him anyway.
>>
Make sure theyre all unloaded and take more pics. Always be suspicious of someone giving you an offer and making it seem like theyre doing you a favor
>>
>>32266771
Keep them. Take care of them. Become a /k/ommando.
>>
>>32266798
This. People don't bid against themselves.
>>
>>32266798
I'm very suspicious of it already, once I get off the shitter I'll take more pics.

>>32266804
I doubt I've the time for that. Trying to run my own business and dealing with my uncles estate.

I have to sell this old house. I don't know how he dealt with this. It's 12 degrees outside and he doesn't have anything but a wood stove for heat and I'm shitting in an outhouse right now.
>>
>>32266843
I'll give you about $3.50 for the house.
>>
>>32266843
Just keep them anyway, Krags and K98s in good condition will only ever go up in value. M1s go a lesser extent because we might be able to port a bunch back from worst Korea eventually but they'll probably all be in shit shape anyway.

You might want to get into them eventually and you'll spend more buying them back then.

I'd kill to have a Krag, they're so fucking cool.
>>
>>32266852
Deal. Saves me time and money. Includes 4 acres and 100 chickens and two very angry goats.
>>
>>32266843

It's not like guns are perishable. Just keep them.
>>

Seconded. Buy a nice safe with a dehumidifier and wait. Guns are assets, like gold or oil.

the krag is worth between 800 and 1200 depending on year and condition, the bayonet makes it more valuble if original.

dont know about the gewehr

the garand is probably a minimum of 800 but could go much higher depending on who made it (IBM, rockola, springfield, winchester, H&R, etc...) when it was made, and the condition its in, possibly up to $2000 by itself.

dont know about the lever action or the double

Pics of the gew 88 receiver please

I know that shotgun. It was my grampas. He traded half a cow for it in the depression. It's a Remington 12 Gauge hammer less. He cracked the stock when he was drunk once and shot both barrels at the same time because the crab apples were laughing at him.

Thanks, at a glance it looked like a Fox-Sterlingworth but the wrist and fore end is wrong.

if it was one you would have one hell of a find.
>>
>>32267026
The M1 said Springfield armory on it and as anon said earlier it was made in October of 1942.

Found a hand written bill of sale for it in 2008. He paid $200 for it.

Nothing with the krag except for the bayonet cover thing, a sling that's falling apart, and a weird bullet holding thing made of leather.

The receiver of the Garand was made in November of 1942. It has WWII lockbar sights as well as a wwii trigger guard. if you can remove the stock, i can tell you more information on the drawing numbers/ correctness/ value of your rifle.

>>
>>32266988

that is a walnut stock that was finished with either pure tung oil or linseed oil many, many decades ago. Over time, the fats in the oils oxidize into that really nice reddish brown color. However, finger oil has salts in it and can eat away at the red color if allowed to build up on spots of the stock and bleach it back to the original color of the finish. Which is what those marks are I believe
>>
Sorry all, went out to investigate the barns. Only "weapon" I found was a big ass chainsaw that had "Mankiller" painted on it.

Found his old army foot locker too, but it's locked. Gonna break into it shortly.

> Muh business

This may all be a pain in the ass, but you may have inherited some incredibly valuable property, even aside from the firearms. He sounds like the type that would have buried things on his property. Do you know if he held onto precious metals / stuffed his mattress with $$$ ,that kind of thing?

Unless it's an emergency, I think your business can wait for a little bit.

As far as estate goes, people *will* attempt to fleece you out of shit. Don't let them. Firearms, vehicles, farming implements. Some of it's going to be worth quite a bit.

Those 50s era tractors can go from 2-20k+ a pop depending on condition. Lots of people collect and restore them.
>>
>>32267480
I sound like a ghoul, but inheriting all that stuff sounds fun anon. I have no family members with cool heirlooms to look forward to, or cool family members for that matter.
>>
>>32267871
I did.
They sold the stuff in the will before he died out of spite to us
>>
>>32266586
As the guy up top said, the Garand is worth almost half that.
The Krag (the bolt action with the mag on the side) is enough to bring it to almost $2,200, and the K98 (for the sake of simplicity we'll call it the nazi bolt action) brings it well over $2,500 (probably around $2,900-$3,300)

The rest of it brings it to somewhere in the upper $4,000 to lower $5,000 range.

Whoever offered you $2,500 is an asshole trying to rob you.
>>
>>32267871

My grandpa had a bunch of cool things from the Korean war, lost it all when he forgot to pay for his storage unit before I was born.

Dude, don't sell your uncles guns.

Seriously. Keep them. They were probably very special to him.
