The one I saw has an omnidirectional mic that listens to where the shot comes from. But that one was fuck huge.

With this one, I would guess that they are all networked in order to triangulate the shooter since the mic looks kinda small.

The current gunfire locators I know of use sound. Partly the muzzle blast but mostly the supersonic crack. You'd have to use subsonic ammo to avoid getting located. Shit's gunna get real when these devices can be used with augmented reality to display bullet paths in mid-air

The muzzle blast and the supersonic crack are the only noises loud enough though. Any other noises can't reliably be distinguished or filtered from background noises. The example that I posted can only reliably detect supersonic rounds.
